Play Back to Dinosaur Island Part 2

Oculus Rift DK2 and Controller required to play

Back to Dinosaur Island 2 is an Oculus Rift DK2-exclusive Virtual Reality demo and requires an Oculus Rift DK2 HMD (SDK 0.8) to run.

Back to Dinosaur Island 2 requires a Xbox 360 for Windows or Xbox One Controller for Windows to be played. Gameplay with only mouse and keyboard is not supported.

About This Game

Return to Crytek’s Dinosaur Island and enjoy another glimpse into the developer’s exciting vision for VR. Back to Dinosaur Island 2 received a glowing reception when it was first shown to attendees at E3 2015 and has previously only been playable at select industry events. Now, gamers everywhere can sample the acclaimed VR demo firsthand – scaling a deadly cliff face as huge flying dinosaurs react to their presence and debris rains down from above. Mysterious landmarks on the horizon and stunning vistas on every side combine to immerse gamers in an entirely new reality.

Back to Dinosaur Island 2 has been built from the ground up to take advantage of the Oculus Rift HMD, and requires an Oculus Rift DK 2 (SDK version 0.8) to run. Please check the system requirements below. Virtual reality games require a high frame rate to guarantee a comfortable experience for the user. Running Back to Dinosaur Island 2 on weaker hardware can cause lower frame rates, which can lead to users having a less than ideal experience.

System Requirements

    Minimum:
    • OS: Windows 7, 8 or 10 (64bit)
    • Processor: Intel Core i7-2600K 3.40GHz
    • Memory: 8 GB RAM
    • Graphics: NVIDIA GTX 970 or AMD Radeon R9 290
    • DirectX: Version 11
    • Storage: 8 GB available space
    • Sound Card: DirectX Compatible Sound Card with latest drivers

Apparrently this only works on Oculus 0.8 runtime and will not work on newer versions. It crashes with an error.

AMAZING! NOT.... Really? Xbox exclusive controller? can't use anything else, can't even emulate a PS4 to work on this crap. Why, seriously why? it is rare enough anyone has a DK2 to try this, you split it down by 50% when you limiti t to Xbox.... well done.

No idea how to start it. Confusing and buggy.

Poor Crytek, backing the wrong VR company. Occulas's buissness practices of late are what made me cancel my pre-order and buy a Vive instead. Horrendous DRM and blatent lying on thier kickstarter have caused many to lose faith in them as a company. Exclusivity kills innovation and will only hurt the market in the long run. When the hardware costs so much making people choose between them because of content exclusives makes a divide in the playerbase and could kill VR if its not controlled.

Artificially imposed hardware exclusive excluded me to play this title for the sake of exclusion and a new shiny pair of flip-flops.

So i decided to revisite Dinosaur Island, and let me tell you ! I DONT regret it. Simply breath taking. Crytek is in it to win it.
if this is the kind of VR experience we can expect from crytek in the future, then i`m all abord. If you have a Oculus Rift (VR Headset) this is a MUST play.

If you dont have a HMD, you can check out my video playthrough here

I played Back to Dinosaur Island Part 2 standing up and it was absolutely stunning. It's super immersive when you are climbing up and dinosaurs are diving down from your left and right. This is definitely a must try for every VR enthusiast. Here's my video review if you are interested. https://youtu.be/JykodKFLQYc

The first part left me disappointed. It was nice, but neither particularly engaging "story-wise" nor impressive tech-wise
"Back to Dinosaur Island Part 2" on the other hand, is uterly awesome and (best of all) *FUN*.
A must-have to show off VR to your friends!

Holy ♥♥♥♥! This is honestly the most excited I've been about VR since I first got my DK2! Everything was so smooth and polished and, like, not buggy! What a crazy idea! It made me want to explore this world, pulled in all these feelings of wonder and a healthy dose of vertigo. I freaking loved it!

I have been so disappointed by many turns in the recent VR scene that I thought my DK2 was going to be useful from now on. And here, out of nowhere Crytek delivers one of the greatest short VR demo i've played.
Hear me out here, I've litterally played every single VR demo I've seen or heard about, that's a couple of hundreds. From very bad to incredible, i've had my share of surprises. But yet again, I'm laughing and smiling like crazy watching Dinosaurs fly past me and looking back at the perfectly rendered background that isn't for once dropping my FPS below 60.
One of the most immersive and well optimised VR demo yet. You must try while standing though, it's something else.
I only hope this isn't the last one on the DK2.

Any Oculus-exclusive game deserves to be one-starred. Exclusives are such a cheap way to hide the fact that your hardware is inferior. A very disappointed HTC Vive user.
