What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“SUPER IMPOSSIBLE ROAD is primarily a multiplayer racing game with local (split screen) and online play (coming soon). Early Access is especially important for games with a strong multiplayer component, to ensure a robust online experience, but also to balance and tweak gameplay. The only way to achieve this is by getting feedback from lots of players.

Single player aspects will also be tweaked and developed with feedback from the community. In particular, the career mode, which takes the player from beginner through to complete mastery will benefit hugely from player feedback.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We're aiming for a 2016 release for SUPER IMPOSSIBLE ROAD, but it won't be released until we're completely happy with it. The release date will be locked down as we go through Early Access and start to learn more about what needs to be done to complete the game.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

  • Online multiplayer racing
  • Complete single player career mode
  • Full variety of track designs
  • Full variety of vehicle designs, each with different handling attributes
  • Tweaks and polish across the scope of the game
  • More music tracks

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

  • Local multiplayer (split screen) races with AI opponents
  • Single player races against AI opponents
  • Survival mode (single player endless mode) with leaderboards
  • Time gate mode (single player endless mode) with leaderboards
  • Partially complete single player career mode
  • Near-complete graphical effects - physical based rendering, HDR, bloom, motion blur
  • Sound design and implementation 50% complete including voice actor for race announcements

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Those who buy the game during Early Access will be buying at a lower discounted price point than the full release, to give our thanks to those who support the game early on and help us with their feedback and with spreading the word.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The backbone of community involvement will be the game's forum. Every post will be read by the developer and some, where appropriate, commented upon by the developer. Whilst this will be a good way to gauge community response to aspects of the game, we will also run polls whenever that makes sense to get consensus on specific features.

For the multiplayer, we will organise weekly coordinated play sessions, to make sure there are enough people online at the same time to properly test the multiplayer systems. The community will be free to play online whenever they want, but these coordinated sessions will hopefully be useful to make sure there are enough players online at the same time whilst the user base is still growing.

There will be a bi-weekly cycle for version releases. As much as possible, these releases will be done on the same day so that players know when to expect new features. The release will be accompanied by a project update showing what's new in this version, as well as what is coming soon.”

*IMPORTANT* Leaderboards are being reset TONIGHT 12AM PST

Hello all,

Over the last little while, the community has done some brilliant work to expose a vulnerability in SUPER IMPOSSIBLE ROAD which meant that leaderboards could be hacked. To combat this, here's what's going to happen:

1.) At 12am tonight (Pacific time, or 8am GMT, 13th July 2017), all leaderboards will be reset.

2.) At around the same time, version 0.15.4 will be made live on Steam. This fixes the vulnerability.

Resetting leaderboards is not something I take lightly, even in Early Access. However, when a vulnerability like this is found it is absolutely necessary to clear them straight away, so that the validity of the leaderboards is not in question.

Thanks again to the community for finding this problem.

If you have any questions, please do go ahead and ask.

Kind Regards,

Kevin

The Ticker of Infamy Update is now live! (v0.15.0)

Get recognized

We’ve got quite the battle being fought on the leaderboards between the likes of f20, Arcade and Steve Bushemi (who is far from out of his element). It’s about time we celebrate our top players on the brand new score ticker at the bottom of the screen. And remember: Daily Track Mode means there’s a new chance to get your name up there every day.

This is just a small part of a complete overhaul of the game’s UI. All the menus look spiffier, with new button graphics, menu animations, fonts, and layouts. There’s even new menu music and a few sound tweaks too. A whole heap of polish.

See the announcement on the game’s Steam Community hub for the full details. Full release notes can be found pinned to the top of the Discussion Board.
