Simple and Fun
Crown and Council is a simple and fun strategy game. It is pretty RNG heavy, and the clicking can be a bit off. The window is not reziable, and the game doesn't really have any menus, except for the loading screens in between each level. The controls for the game are only given to you on the loading screens. Even with those few issues, it is still a fun game that will keep you entertained for a few hours.

Good fun from a simple game. Just enough strategy to keep you interested, and just enough randomness to make you curse the RNG.

Kept me going for around 20-30 maps. The game is really good but it needs to be harder.. add new stuff make it harder. Really easy for now.

I'm not sure if I liked this or not, but there is definitely some potential here for updates or other games. All players should try this, because this game seems to be for all.

tiny strategic game which becomes pretty soon impossible to play because of balance issues.
the map with the ships took ages to solve and was really annoying and boring to complete.

The game does have nice aesthetics, with its 16-bit style art and calming music. It doesn't try to complicate itself with the mechanics. Conquer lands that are adjacent to yours with one gold or strike any bit of land with a navy for four gold, with each land you gain more income in gold. Castles up their defense, towns up the income, and universities give you research points which help you upgrade you army, navy, castles, and towns. Now add over 70 maps and that's the game. The tutorial of the game is actually a little more spread out compared to other strategy games like this. It doesn't tell you everything after every minor, mandatory action, but tells you simply what a mechanic does, and lets you go fight a map. Tells you about another mechanic, and lets you play. I like it because it lets me learn the game far more easily, and lets you get straight to the action.

This game is not without its flaws, though. First of, be ready to click on things a few times because of a slight drop in frame rate. As well as having a town on you frontlines even though you clicked on the opposite side of you empire. Also, clicking on water will cancel your army. Secondly, there are events that can happen to you called plauges and rebellions. Rebellions will make the province neutral again, while plagues destroy you towns. I don't mind the mechanics, but I do mind when I build a town just to have it be immediately destroyed the next turn. So players, keep some extra change on hand, and Mojang, I'd recommend adding an short-immunity mechanic for towns and provinces. Speaking of things you should fix, Mojang, try to make sure that the generator makes maps that DON'T have one pixel provinces. I don't like trying to find the one territory that's keeping the last kingdom alive because it's the size of Hong Kong compared to my Russian Empire. These may sound petty of me, but I'd recommend slowing down the action speed of the opponents so that they can be easier to follow. It may also make it more tense. Also, I get the "Crown" part of the title, but where's the "& Council"? It's just you making the all of the decisions. It's basically just an absolute monarchy. (I apologize if you were trying to give some backstory of how these kingdoms used to live in harmony, but then broke their alliances and started fighting. It would be kinda clever.)

Despite a few technical bugs, I'd recommend Crown & Council. It tries to bring you a relaxing enough experience that still keeps you thinking.

Not sure why there are so many "mixed" reviews. This game is free! Love the 8-bit asthetic. Took a moment to get used to the mechanics. After you get used to it, it's quite fun. Your empire-expanding abilities grow with new levels (mines, farms), just as the game become more complex and difficult (plagues, rebellions). Music leaves something to be desired though.

Neat strategy game, very RNG heavy. Kinda similar to risk, but really freaking easy. There is a list of things wrong with it however: Window is not resizable, controls are somewhat obfuscated, they're only really relayed by the loading screens between games, and the game has no real menus, including no start menus.

While it does have it's problems, it is still pretty fun, and it's technical problems don't make the game unplayable in any way (it's hard to break a TBS) It's worth playing for a bit, but probably not with playing for very long without some content and technical updates.

It's a great game but there are quite a few glitches (which is understandable).

Cons:
  • The clicking is very off, sometimes I have to click on something 5 times.
  • On level 39 there was a hidden 1 pixel peninsula.
  • It doesn't fit on my 1366x768 screen. In order to play I need to maximize and move the taskbar. They could at least make it fullscreen.

Pros:
  • Very fun and addictive, probably one of the more fun turn based strategy games I've played.
  • There's really nothing in particular that's good about it, it's really only fairly good in all.

I REALLY think they should add online multiplayer though. That would make it so much more fun.

Crown and Council is a very nice casual game.
Easy to learn, easy to play.
But a multiplayer would be nice.

PROS
Very fun game
Simplistic map warfare with a decent bit of strategy behind it
Free
CONS
Doesn't seem to be entirely polished, some minor clicking errors

I definitely recommend giving it a go at the very least. If you don't like it, you won't pay anything for it anyways.

It's free.

That being said the RNG is SO strong in this game. After the first few missions (when it hits 4 players) it seems that RNG can ruin a game. Attack the same place multiple times and don't even get a hit (I'm assuming there are misses) but then the AI comes in and takes down a fresh fort in 1 hit.

If I'm going to have a chance at failing an attack, maybe let me know why it failed?

Unable to resize the window and also has problems with losing your current action selection? Would not be as unbearable to deal with if there were hotkeys for the actions.

Assuming the QOL is improved and maybe a little less RNG and this would be a GREAT game to play in your freetime.

Not a bad game. Definitely could use some updates to add more stuff, but hey, it's free!
PROS
-It's free.
-It's a little like Risk and Age of Empires 2 put together and shrunk down to micro-form.
-It's simple and easy to pick up.
-Graphics aren't anything from, say, Civ V, but they still look nice.
-The music isn't bad.
CONS
-The music can get repetitive, though.
-Other than the change in maps, the game feels about the same after getting the fourth AI.
-More stuff in the game would be nice in, say, a future update.

All in all, 7/10 stars. Not the best game I've ever played, but it's not half bad.

I have played this game for a while now and I find that it is a great way to pass the time! It can be a little frustrating at times, but it is very fun to play.

Pros:
- Very nice and simple interface
- easy to use controls
- decent amount of gameplay

My only con for this game is:
- there is only one resolution
