What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

ARENA is a solo, one man development and at times it has been easy to lose sight of ideas and features that I have drawn up. So far the development has been based purely around my point of view and how I enjoy it, so I would like to branch out and gain valuable feedback from other players around the world.

I look to actively develop new game modes throughout Early Access, bring them to players in updates and welcome the criticism and ideas to improve.

More importantly... I cannot wait any longer for people to play and see new scores on the Leaderboards 🙂”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I have set myself an overall target of releasing ARENA before my birthday in July 2017, however I feel that date has given me a fairly large cushion. If the development of the game modes through Early Access goes quickly and relatively trouble free then that date could very well change.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“I am using Early Access to develop the different game modes within ARENA, so each level in the star map will be dedicated to one particular game mode. And the area of the map you are exploring is aptly named the 'Beta Sector'. For the full version of ARENA I hope to expand on the game modes which Early Access players will have helped to develop, and bring new sections of the star map to explore. This maybe part of DLC after the main release and will look to make further additions for the future.

Two key features which I will be working hard to implement for release are Multiplayer and Dock. The nature of ARENA will greatly benefit playing with others and Multiplayer will add great more depth to the game. The Dock would allow the player to customise themselves and work on various upgrades using the stars which they collect during gameplay.

As my skill and knowledge grows, testing of these upcoming features may be a part of Early Access.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

ARENA currently features two game modes playable at present, Exosphere and Fathom. These game modes are fully functional and mostly bug free from earlier closed Beta Testing.

The Leaderboards are fully operational so you can track your Steam Friend's scores or just try and improve your score and reach the top of the Global Leaderboard.

There are Star Challenges available which add a little more challenge to the current game modes. Completing these challenges will unlock Steam Achievements, which each have a Unique Medal which you can view from the Main Menu.

Back end functionality, which involves the settings menu and general navigation of the game, is mostly complete, but may have some refining to do based on the feedback from Early Access players.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“As development through Early Access will most likely contain a bug or two and the time between updates could vary as I am the sole developer of ARENA, Early Access will be priced lower than the main release.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Depending on how many players sign up, I would like to make use of the Leaderboards and offer a prize at the end of the Early Access for the highest collective score across all of the game modes. An ARENA League.

All Early Access players will be credited as part of Gameplay Development as it is their input which will make the difference in turning ARENA into a great game.

I would like Early Access players to be forward with their thoughts and ideas. The Community Hub is a great place to share and if an idea is implemented, I would love to include your Concept Art within ARENA if you wish.”

Multiplayer is now alive!!! Check out video

I have been a little quiet over the last month or so as I have had my head down concentrating on implementing Multiplayer into ARENA 3D. It has been a huge challenge and development is somewhat slower than that of the Singleplayer side. It has been even more difficult being the only person working on this project! Thankfully I have had some great help from my partner and close friends in playtesting when they have the time!

Without further ado... I have two new videos for you to cast your eyes over!! For the developers interested in how I have integrated Unity with the Steam API for multiplayer, I will be making a new video tutorial on the basics. I have not had to use any 3rd party plugins and purely used C# and the Steam API.

About This Game

Shoot. Die. Repeat.

** Newsflash **

As part of the Early Access release, ARENA will include the ARENA League. All players that sign up to Early Access will be entitled to compete as part of the ARENA League and there will be Prizes up for grabs for the top players.

ARENA is an on going solo development from one man team MBSquared Entertainment and aims to be a collection of fast paced Arcade Game Modes set within a seamless world bursting with colour and vibrant audio.

New features are being added all the time and currently two game modes are playable,

  • Exosphere - Top down view, twin stick shooter. Prepare for Fireworks. This game play is the love child of Geometry Wars™ and Super Stardust™ Delta
  • Fathom - Stealth based with no weapons, skill and strategy are your ally here. This would be the Pac-Man™ nightmare. Jump scares ahead

Upcoming game modes that are currently in development,

  • Commander - 1st Person Turret defence. Take control of powerful weaponry to defeat your opponents, but you'll most likely die trying.
  • Velocity - High speed racing. Take to the track and pump up the velocity. 3 Dimensions make for mind bending courses
  • Stranded - 3rd Person Flying Combat. Fully fledge space based combat. Skill and accuracy will help you master ARENA's skies

Other features which are already included with ARENA,

  • Leaderboards ARENA is fully integrated with Steam Leaderboards so that you can keep track of not only your score, but your friend's too. Come back to your favourite levels time and time again and see how close you can reach the top
  • Achievements There are many to collect, each with their own unique in-game Medal to view. Who can be first to unlock them all...

As this is a solo development, and also a first time game for MBSquared Entertainment, progress can be a little slow at times and extras features such as Multiplayer and Dock (where you can customise your game play with the stars you collect) will be added at a later date and most likely be a part of the final release.
