About This Game

One of the best first person shooters out there. It has a great story, interesting environments and unique mechanics. The things that brings it home, however, is the atmosphere. When you put the gasmask on, see the glasses crack or get a little foggy, hear yourself taking every breath... When you check the ammo count in your gun by literally looking at the open magazine or inspecting said magazine... Or just seeing how people have made lives for themselves in the metro and how beasts have set up nests all throughout the tunnels... It is simply unrivaled in terms of the claustrophobic, post-apocalyptic atmosphere it is able to deliver. If you're a fan of things like that this game is definitely a must have!

One of the best singleplayer shooters I've played in recent years. The gunplay is great, the story is well presented, the pacing is great, and it's actually fairly challenging. Also, the game presents its 'universe' exceptionally well. The atmosphere in the stations/'cities' is especially strong; you get the impression you're in a place where people actually live, although your ability to interact with the world itself is fairly limited. Although the STALKER comparisons are pretty much inevitable, Metro really isn't particularly similar to stalker outside of the post-apocalyptic setting and similar visual style.

Pros: captivating story line will keep you immersed for a good 9 hour play through, and probably for a second play through with the multiple ending. Cons: replayability after that is little, the game is very linear and should really have coop or lan.

I got this game years ago, and I stopped playing after the first encounter with humans. Now 5 years later I revisited and I can tell you, the game is 10/10. Now I have 50h+ both in the original Metro 2033 and in the Redux version. This game is highly recomended, if you follow the game's slogan and "Enter the Metro" you will get such an atmoshpere you won't forget.

However I advise you to play this game, instead of the Redux version, the orignal one creates a way more better atmoshpere, and the voice actors in the Redux version are just ridicoulus. (Eg: the kids's voice in Redux sounds like 100kg+ men's voice.) I dont like the new user models for your main companion as well. Khan outfit in the Redux version is so much worst than his in the original one.

A lot of player advice to play the game with Russian voice, but personally I find the English one 10/10 as well.

There is one reason to not play this game. If you like fast peaced gameplay like cod or battlefield. In this game every bullet count, exploring your surrondings is crucial.

So "It's no rest for the wicked as you know. Forward, my soldiers, great deeds await!"

One of the original and best post-apolcalyptic, story-driven games ever made. Metro 2033 has a fictional storyline with supernatural aspects and very realistic mechanics. Packed with extensive visuals and physics technology, this game is well worth what ever the cost is now. I highly recommend this game and in my opinion, Metro 2033 is also much better than it's sequel, Metro Last Light.

This game gave me the idea of buying a mechanical watch, which I've enjoyed wearing every day for nearly 3 years now. The Metro 2033 watch's ticking sound while checking how much oxygen is left with the gas mask, and the real-life watch's ticking sounds/beat reminding me of my own limited time, as it passes by. I can also turn and set the bezel's chapter ring on my watch to keep track of the number of minutes passing, starting from any particular moment, like Artyom.

Really, though, Metro 2033 is a good game and I enjoy stealthing it as much as possible, specifically by neck-shooting (with the use of silenced or air-powered guns), or throwing knives at, fellow Russians when the environment aids in this stealthy endeavor.

Metro 2033 does the dark, post-apocalyptic underground really well. The ambiance of this game is intense. The controls are well layed out and easy to navigate during combat. The dialog is great and I love the story. Everything about this game I love, but it isn't completely an open world. At times I've wanted to interact with things but couldn't. Even with the slight rails, if you don't try to play it like Skyrim you'll really enjoy it. I have recommended it to friends.

my absolute favourite game ever.
- mechanics aren't even that great. stealthing around humans is pretty predictable and easy. but i like the details (glas on the floor gives you away).

+ best thing is the story tho. you just feel it. your character is mute, and you only get a few informations at a time, so it is hard to follow, until you realise what is happening, what you're doing and whats happening. you really feel as a small player in a larger frame of things. I love if the story is not "oh enemies coming there, what shall we do". this one is more like, you float around with your own aims, but others don't care much for you because they have their own problems. you float in this immersive world. love it.

+ gameplay is diverse. I love stealthing around humans, but monster levels in between can be really scary aswell. playing in metro is totally different from playing on the surface. you have levels on foot, on vehicles, alone or with an ai comrade.

+ weapons: one of the best things ever. they feel absolutely aweful. you cannot just spray like cod, you won't hit anyhing. and it's not like the monsters or humans are unrealisticly strong, one revolver bullet usually does the trick if it hits. but the weapons are creative. besides normal weapons like ak there are improvised ones, like the air pressured tihar or helsing which you have to pressure up from time to time, or electrical weapons. it really gives you the feel, that the inhabitants build them from scrap, and they are not good but do the trick. a super feeling. and still diversity is there, attachments exist aswell.

+ immersion. i pointed some ♥♥♥♥ out already, here some more points. Money system: Doesn't exist. Money are bullets, pre-war military grade bullets to be precise. you can trade them for worse metro-built bullets, but in the worst case you can also use them as ammo. and there are not plenty of them around, leaving you to conserve as much as possible.
The peaceful stages are beautifully designed, with a lot of people doing the stuff you would expect from them. people have these ♥♥♥♥ guns and use improvised technics to protect themselvs. (cans as alarm system...). you can really feel the desperation of the inhabitants. also your gadgets scream "desperation", even your torch needs to be recharged alot to help you out.

- a bit an older game, considering movements of ai etc. but nothing bad that would stand out.

metro is like dead space. if you liked metro last light, you will not be able to appreciate this one (which is far superior to ll imho). but like dead space, the sequels move in the wrong direction, from athmospheric story teller to COD-Based action shooter with a generic story, and loss of athmosphere in favour of high end gadgets. (LL weapons seem to be powerful beasts, 2033 weaons seem to be scrap and ♥♥♥♥) Yep, like dead space, the sequels were designed for a more mainstream buyer base, which is a pity if you ask me.

I give this a perfect 10/10. From today's point of view you could subtract 0.5 for not smart human ai, but consider, this is a few years older.

If sb else thinks the same way about this game, why don't you write me and we can recommend each other more games? :)

This review is for Metro 2033, not Metro 2033 Redux.

Story: [Spoiler Free] Very good. The story is about main protagonist Arytom seeks helps for his homebase / metro station, meets a lot of unique characters, explores a lot of metro stations and outside (or upper world), and learns truth behind Metro universe.

Gameplay: You can play this game as 2 play-styles, almost aggressive and stealth. Stealth in this game is somewhat good but not perfect. Other than that, I haven't seen any bugs or glitches. AI partners in this game are strong (some of them have somewhat aim-bot skill). Weapon mechanic is very good except trench knifing part. And no, there is no organizing inventory system like STALKER :'(

Quality: Graphic looks beautiful. Details in this game is amazing. There are some scary moments like, I jump-scared when multiple mutants charged behind me and when I met "black librarian" (that thing is very scary). I have seen few issues like some achievements didn't give you some more details like "sniper" but nothing major. Both English and Russian voice actors did good job. Also, lip-sync on each characters is flawless for both languages. I get to play this game at least 2 playthroughs, because most of the levels are replayables.

Most Highlighted Feature: Two difficulties, Ranger Easy & Ranger Hardcore, are very challenging. These difficulties give you better experience how to survive with very limited sources. This may sound like unforgiving but very fun to play if you look surroundings very carefully. Don't worry, there is checkpoint system. You can start with Ranger Mode, but playing Normal/Hardcore on first playthrough is recommended.

Overall: Great game especially for newcomers who haven't played Survival Horror FPS games before. You can get Metro 2033 Redux (remastered version) with more weapon modifications and more hidden places, but in my opinion, this game is more realistic survival.

I finally went throught that masterpiece and it was awesome.
Very scary game my pants almost turned brown and i'm still shaking.
10/10
I had such a great time I felt very bad for the dark ones in the end after I realized they had feelings and just wanted to live.
Now i'm finally going to read the book but not before I complete Metro last light another time as it is the next episode.
It was so good I just want to beat this game again on harder diffficulty and find the other endings.

I have just finished this game and I feel like I have just watched one great memorable movie set in a dark, cold post-apocalyptic world. Very engaging story, you will feel like you're in Artyom's shoes as it progresses !
The graphics are just amazing, astonishing and eye-catching. Specially in large landscape shots. The gameplay is immersive as you'll get thrown in different environments along the way that make you feel like you are living in the metro with those people. Diverse weapons, deceptive and deadly foes, it's just the deadly post-apocalyptic mix I always wanted !
Also, I am in love with this game's music, it just blows me out of the water !
To put it consicely, Metro 2033 is THE post-apocalyptic story I have always wanted to "read" or in this case play. It might suffer from a few technical issues on both the audio and AI's (too hard sometimes) sides. However, the overall experiences just absolutely compensates for that.
Metro 2033 is now officially one of my all-time favorite titles !
