This is one of my favorite strategy games of all time. It is fun and addictive and is a very historically accurate game (if you find games like Risk and Civ V long, I don't recommend it). Unlike other Paradox games, however, this one focuses a lot on internal improvements instead of war (thanks to the extra-restrictive infamy system). All land not available for colonization in the EU series is colonizable here. This makes for an even better game if you convert from CKII to EUIV to V2 as you get a near full historical timeline for one country. It is always interesting to see how the scramble for Africa plays out in each game (especially if you're involved in it). This game also characterizes the time period very accurately. It is full of many interlocking alliances/spheres with smaller countries along with great power intervention. The crisis system also demonstrates how many near-wars occured during this time over foreign affairs, but were solved through dipolmacy. You have the great powers oppressing the rest of the world taking over land from Asian and African nations for resources and strategic positions, as well. Also, the industrialization process makes up for the lack of war. However, this game does have some flaws. The infamy system restricts expansion greatly which is not exactly accurate to history. Perhaps if infamy was only gained when waging war against great powers or secondary powers. It really shouldn't cost 22 infamy to annex Haiti, Cuba, or other lesser civs. Also, there shouldn't be infamy for LIBERATING a county, something usually regarded as a moral action. Things like the Spanish-American war can't occur due to large infamy gains. Also, the in game tutorials are awful and teach you very little. It will take a long time to learn. Another thing is that, don't be fooled, unlike most other Paradox games, there are only two start dates. There is no full range of date choice. While this seems really stupid at first, it does make sense as if you could just start the game at any date, you will miss the whole industrialization process which is one of the main features of the game. Despite these flaws, this game is great. If you put the time in to learn it, you will love it.

At first I thought this game was like Civ, then I realized I was horribly wrong. I lost my job at KFC, my dog had died under my computer and my wife had left me. But all in all, I think it was worth it. I mean I haven't touched Civ V all this time!

A deep and sophisticated grand strategy/gommunism simulator from Paradox Interactive, Victoria II poses several fascinating questions, such as:

"Why is Britain such a lazy doucһebag?"

"How can I have 5 million rebels every year when I have a population of 6 million?"

"Why does Fascist Tibet have a better economy than me?"

"How is Fascist Tibet even possible?"

"Why is everyone leaving my country?

"Britain, help, Tibet is invading me!"

"How is that a game over??"

In addition to creating endless possibilities for such believable worlds, Victoria II features a robust and realistic world economy that's too complex for any mere mortal to comprehend. Bail out bankrupt factories and watch your country spiral into debt, just like real life!

The political aspect of the game is also breathtakingly realistic. Watch as your pops do the exact opposite of what you want them to, always be upset with your decisions, and rebel at the worst possible time. A basic guide to politics is that just like in the real world, communism is always the answer. With it, the only one you have to blame for your fuϲkups is yourself, not incompetent AI.

Diplomacy is an important part of the game, especially alliances. If a country is even slightly favorable towards a great power, you can expect them to always intervene against you, ruling out any conflict with that country. Your own allies will constantly call on you for aid, but won't have any problems with leaving you on your own when you need help. There's also the great infamy system, which supposedly prevents blobbing but really just creates artificial difficulty.

The game might seem way too complex at first, but after an hour or 50 you'll see that it's just as complex as you thought it was, but at least you sort of understand it now. If you stick with it long enough to git gud, the game will be a lot of fun.

Overall: 10/10, it's decent

P.S. Expect to have fun with massive yearly Jacobin rebellions in the latter half of the game unless if you're the USA or Gutter Germany. Although, if you're Gutter Germany, you should probably just kill yourself.

P.P.S. I forgot to mention the many amazing mods there are for this game, including the infamous Pop Demand Mod, which adds great features such as three different shoe factories, the amazing-and-totally-not-broken Victoria Ultimate which tries to apply 19th century capitalism to 400 years of history, and vickymod, letting you experience hella ebin memes "/gsg/ culture" firsthand, courtesy of the amazing Sir Rob the Blob, Esq.
