Reviews

“This is a wonderfully deep game, and its sandbox nature is much more open than Hearts of Iron III was and so it's much more enjoyable at the beginning.”
8,5/10 – Strategy Informer

“Victoria II incorporates challenging strategy and sim elements with enough flexibility to satisfy any weasel-beating gaming goof.”
4,3/5 – CheatCodeCentral

“Saying that it stands head-and-shoulders above all of the scant competition for grand-strategy kingship almost goes without saying.”

This game is absolutely insane. Europa Universalis is for people who dream of becoming generals, Crusader Kings is for people who dream of becoming lords, and Victoria is for people who dream of becoming accountants.

Pros:

Cons:
- Numbers glitch out when you get too many troops
- A few crashes here and there

All around Victoria II gets a 9/10. This game is absoultely worth your money if you like strategy games.

When i bought this game, i was hoping for a civ-esque vibe from it, and you get a faint hint of it. It's not very fun, mostly annoying. it's complex, which is why i didn't ask for a refund, becaus ei hoped that once i grasped it, it'd be awesome. that was not the case. In fact, the opposite was the case. Once i figured it out, i hated it more. I completley regret this purchase, and it's not worth the time or the effort

My Experience With Victoria 2 (Ultimate Mod):

-start game as britain
-steady economy so i build up my army
-see ireland has no army
-"ooh, lets p*ss off my Irish friend!"
-half way through creating a war justification, it gets noticed
-france, germany and spain get scared and prepare their army
-finally declare war on the Irish and invade in 1 month....Noice
-suddenly ireland rebels, meh whatever
-defeat rebellion easily
-Britain goes into a recession
-make allies with portugal, denmark, sweden and the USA
-2nd rebellion, this time scotland and wales rebel.
- easy peasy lemon squeezy
-Economy improves and is now steady at £300 per day
-as my army recovers a 3rd rebellion starts, "for f*cks sake!!"
-takes 6 months to beat because they very strong and in all my terratories in the british isles
-army is severly crippled and begins recovery
-become communist
-spain suddenly declares war to try and take gibraltar; netherlands and brazil join them
-they take gibraltar and the combined forces of the dutch and brazilians capture 50% of my carribean colonies
-USA (they were helping to destroy brazil) forces me to surrender just as i land 100,000 men into spain
-i realise that in the peace deal was spain getting gibraltar, boll*cks!
-finally rebuild army up to maximum strength just as a crisis starts
-WW3 breaks out: France,Spain,Brazil,Netherlands,Greece,Bosnia,Russia vs USA,UK(me),Germany,Denmark,Sweden
-Huge french invasion force of 200,000 men land in south east England.....ATTAAAACK!!!
-a bloodbath occurs, we pour more and more soldiers into the fight....finally we have beaten them.
-germany invades half of france and the USA invades greece and brazil.
-suddenly, ahuge wave of Russian soldiers sweep through Sweden, Denmark and Germany and land in south east england
-400,000.........400,000!!!!!
-i lose half of england
-brazil fights back and takes terratories for the USA
-America surrenders on behalf of all of us..........Cowards!! I would have rather have lost everythi....oh
-britain has fallen....we no longer hold any meaning to the world.....beaten...betrayed....forced to pay france and russia for the damage they have caused.....i only have ireland left *they rebel and get independance*
-not anymore...RIP England, the once powerful nation has fallen to snail eating, baguette tossing frenchmen. (i dont have any thing against the french im just "role-playing")

-*deletes the save and starts new campaign as Iran and recreates the persian empire* .............LOL

YOU HAVE TO GET THIS GAME. I recommend playing with HoD and AHD dlcs (they improve gameplay ALOT)
i also recommend trying ou the Ultimate mod, it lets you play in the modern era, WW2 era and more.

I personally love this game because i love creating huge empires (which is why i play Total War so much!).
Have fun changing history Comrades!

I was only 9 years old.
I loved strategy games so much.
I prayed to Paradox every night, thanking them for the games I'd been given.
"Paradox is love", I would say, "Paradox is life".
My teacher hears me and calls me a delinquent
I know she's just jealous of my devotion to strategy
I smile and call her uptight
She suspends me and sends me home
I'm crying now; and my grades hurt
Suddenly a warmth moves towards me
I feel something touch me
It's Victoria II!
I am so happy!
It whispers into my ear: "You're now a slave to Paradox" as it forces me onto my computer with its powerful strategy gameplay
I am ready.
I open my wallet for Paradox
They penetrate my bank account
It hurts so much but I do it for Paradox
I can see my credit score drop as my eyes begin to water
I push against its force
I want to play Victoria II
Paradox roars its mighty roar as it fills my library with games
The download is complete
The loading screen looks me straight in the eye and says "Creating the world"
The game loads to the main menu
Paradox is love.
Paradox is life.

Lovely game. The world is in motion at all times, with new states forming and old ones being turned into communist dictatorships. Practice the power you don't have in real life and make Germany great again... or any other nation if you're into that sort of stuff.

Play this if you like:
  • History
  • Statistics & demographics
  • Simulation & management games
  • Politics
  • Crushing the French, as is tradition

Also, get the two expansions.

Fantastic game. There are tons of different gameplay styles and options and economics is simulated complexly. Easily one of my favorite games. If you buy it it is also worth getting the two expansion packs, HoD and AHD. I strongly recomend this game to anyone who is willing to learn a complicated game which is extremely rewarding to play.

ahh, i remember my first game

> pick MURICA, because MURICA

>doesnt understand that if you build troops is a province, and that joins a different country, those troops are the enemies

> builds as large as a army as possible

> take back all the cores from mexico

> uh oh, civil war, and since i had lots of troops, the south had a bunch to start with

> mamage to win, but the war takes several years.

fast forward a few monthes irl

> decide to play MURICA, because MURICA

> understands how the troops work

> take a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ton from mexico and canada

> civil war approches

> move all southern troops to the middle of africa so they cant fight

> crush the south in a few monthes

10/10 Would make the south lose again

A great game for anyone interested in a bit of political manoeuvring mixed together with a couple of great wars and a lot of map starring. Shorter than most Paradox grand strategy games and while some countries are more viable than others all are playable. Be warned however if you buy this game you should also buy the expansion packs as the game is very broken without them.
