Reviews

“This is a wonderfully deep game, and its sandbox nature is much more open than Hearts of Iron III was and so it's much more enjoyable at the beginning.”
8,5/10 – Strategy Informer

“Victoria II incorporates challenging strategy and sim elements with enough flexibility to satisfy any weasel-beating gaming goof.”
4,3/5 – CheatCodeCentral

“Saying that it stands head-and-shoulders above all of the scant competition for grand-strategy kingship almost goes without saying.”
9,5/10 – CPUGamer

I like this game. I REALLY like this game, a bit too much. Best part is unlike some other Paradox games I don't have to pay $300 in DLC to make it WORK. I still have no idea how the economy is this game works, however.

first game, i choose to play as belgium.
at the beginning everything runs smooth, a couple of wars with netherlands but i manage to win them and getting they to pay for the wars. diplomacy is good, france and great britain are my allied
econimic and industries are going great, getting steady 50£ a day of income, with taxes below 50% and subsides fully paid. my account says 3M... yay!!
slowly i become a super power, thanks to my industry.
and then....
everything start to fall apart, a world war breaks out, france against germany, russia against austria and all the satellite in the between. i try to take half of the netherland as they have no land army, but germany has other plans.
they start the invasion, my allies france and great britain turn their backs on me and i ♥♥♥♥ed.
i loose wallonie, which was my most industrialized region, forced to pay for war.
i ended up the game around 1917, due to banckrupt and rebellion.

CON:
-there is no "resume" of the wars, so you never now the total losses in the war. i remember paradox used to have it in europa universalis 3, and i found it very interesting.

This game is absolutely insane. Europa Universalis is for people who dream of becoming generals, Crusader Kings is for people who dream of becoming lords, and Victoria is for people who dream of becoming accountants.

Victoria 2 is one of my favourite games of all time. It's fun, has a high learning curve and shows huge potential. Some things are lacking and should be improved upon though.

+ Great soundtrack
+ A lot of countries to choose from. You can even play as Luxemburg...if you want.
+ Fun and addicting gameplay.
+ supports Mods that offer even more content
+ High learning curve with a lot of payoff

- The crisis system, the political parties and the decisions needs to be worked on
- The economy is somewhat broken.
- No family tree
- Annexing regions cost should be scaled and depend on each region's worth. Right now it isn't. Also, annexing remnant parts of a region should cost less if you already own other parts of it.
- Recruiting and maintaining your unit stacks is a chore. This needs to be changed urgently.

I definitely recommend buying this game: 8.5//10

Victoria II, even at over 6 years old, still holds up the test of time. The game may appear difficult to new players, but after tinkering with the mechanics of the game it is easy to get the hold of. The vanilla version of the game is adequate, but the expansions, such as "House Divided", add a lot to the game, with new scenarios appearing. Again, Victoria II allows for so many possiblities with its vast variety of playable nations. Definitely worth a try.

Welcome to the age of Imperialism and Empire.

Wether you take control of a current great power; or raise an uncivilized nation to greatness, this game never gets boring and always has new challenges and events that will always keep you on the edge of your seat with excitment.

Pros:
- Astounding gameplay
- Spectacular World Map
- Always a different experience

Cons:
- Numbers glitch out when you get too many troops
- A few crashes here and there

All around Victoria II gets a 9/10. This game is absoultely worth your money if you like strategy games.

Thank you for taking the time to read this,

King George Washington
