Open Beta Announced for Magicka: Wizard Wars!

May 9th, 2014

Magicka: Wizard Wars to Begin Open Beta on May 27

STOCKHOLM — May 9, 2014 — Paradox Interactive and Paradox North today announced that Magicka: Wizard Wars, the online competitive multiplayer game of misdirected magic, is going to begin an Open Beta phase on May 27. Currently available via Steam Early Access, Magicka: Wizard Wars will be playable for free by those who demonstrate a lack of self-preservation instinct when the title enters its Open Beta phase. Robe enthusiasts everywhere still have the chance to experience the friendly-firing frenzy of Magicka: Wizard Wars as it draws nearer to launch and test whether their friendships can withstand repeated spellcasting “incidents” by purchasing the title on Early Access and, in the process, nabbing exclusive goodies.

Eager spellcasters can get into Magicka: Wizard Wars straightaway here: http://access.wizardwars.com

In Magicka: Wizard Wars, two teams of four wizards each can go head-to-head in intense player-versus-player (PvP) action, utilizing the celebrated spellcasting system of Magicka, combining elements to generate spellbinding results. Players can also hone their skills against one another in the one-on-one duel mode, utilizing all of their tricks in order to be the last robe standing. With short battles, skill-based spellcasting, and plenty of humor, Magicka: Wizard Wars presents a new way to experience the chaos of Magicka with friends and foes alike.

Steam Big Picture

About the Game

Magicka is a satirical action-adventure game set in a rich fantasy world based on Norse mythology. The player assumes the role of a wizard from a sacred order tasked with stopping an evil sorcerer who has thrown the world into turmoil, his foul creations besieging the forces of good.
Players will be able to combine the elements to cast spells, wreaking havoc and devastation on the minions of darkness. They will also be able to team up with friends and fight their way through the campaign, or test their skills in the magickal arts through other challenging modes.
In Magicka, up to four players take on a grand adventure to save their world from certain doom using a fully dynamic spell system. The adventure mode takes the players across three different levels, ranging from the lush forests of mountain valleys to the frozen halls of the Mountain King where wits and creative thinking are the keys to victory.
In the unlockable hardcore challenge mode, players fight off waves of enemies to earn their place on local and online leaderboards.

Main Features:

  • Innovative and dynamic spell casting system
  • Up to four-player co-op in all game modes, as well as a single-player option
  • Fight your way through 13 different campaign levels

When you start Magicka you don't know what you're up to. Cast your first spell, destroy something, kill yourself, burn down a house, melt cheese or just grill some sausages. This big adventure will require skills to learn to cast spells as fast as you can. This is only way to survive sometimes. On top of that you'd rather be smart to find the weak points of many different foes who will come across your journey. Having troubles passing through an area? Just call some friends and they will help you in a fight or just cast the wrong spell on you :p. Well Magicka is a unique game without vampires ;-).
I recommend that you also read the e-book : The Ninth Element. It is well written and fully in sync with the humour of the game.
Some DLCs will give you a very hard time to defeat the bosses but that's where you should call your friends for online adventure.

This game has it all:

Humor? Check!
Vampires? Check!
Guns? Check!
Time Travel? Check!
Explosions and Lightning Storms? Double Check!
Broken friendships? Triple Check!
Spells? Check the hell out of that!

If you ever get bored of killing your enemies, you can kill your friends!

If you ever get bored of killing your friends, there are plenty of bad guys (and innocent villagers) that are perfect targets!
