About This Game

Chasing Dead is a story-based, Sci-fi/Horror First-Person Action Shooter.
The game begins with a strange phenomenon in which another Earth appears in our skies. The curiosity and fear of a doppelganger planet initiates multiple missions in order to make contact with the duplicate Earth. A team of agents, astronauts, and scientists were sent 955,600 miles across space by NASA and the US Military, however all contact is lost a few hours after their arrival. You play as a marine named "Jake" who is sent on a mission to retrieve any research and data left behind by the original survey team while fighting off hostile forces.

Jake is a 29 year-old mercenary who is a former DEA agent and soldier who is hired by US government.
During his training he was a identified as a lone wolf. He was recruited not just for his combat skills but for his self-driven tenacity and ability to make sound decisions on his own without the need for guidance. After his recruitment, he underwent a cybernetic operation that protects him from infection by the creatures of the parallel Earth. Jake suddenly wakes up in a crashing plane with no memory of his mission or any of events that happened after his arrival.

Chasing Dead features a wide variety of locations as players explore the horrifying, zombie-ridden lands of the parallel Earth.
Players will roam the snowy Russian tundra, traverse the hot deserts of Afghanistan and venture through the ruined cities of Ukraine as they fight off creatures that were created through mankind's self-destruction. This brave new world is fraught with horrors as players try to survive lethal perils such as a crashing airline flight, an abandoned mine, a dilapidated hospital and a haunted house. Appropriately, at every location, they will face the voracious hordes of the undead, abominable mutants and insane soldiers that inhabit this world.

This game Chasing Dead is an impressive accomplishment! Reminded me a bit of the L4D games especially some in gameplay, thinking of this game’s gunner sequences. Chasing Dead visuals are great, and the game lets you play pretty much the way you want to play and it all planes seem to have a nice balance too them even the RPG in the beginning looks authentic and feel heavy although nowhere near as complex as a simulator to kill zombies for which I am very happy. There are quite a few living actors voices and videos! I managed to explode zombies while rushed to find a cover, had a blast zombiefighting there guys, overall atmosphere is done very well, pulls you in and doesn’t let you go - highly recommend Chasing Dead to any gamer.

Not good... At all. When I first started playing, I thought I'd found a good game with some really bad voice acting. But after the initial level, the enemies and level design is horrible. It's so bad, I think I'd rather poke needles in my knees than continue playing.

This is the kind of game I've been hoping would start coming out, especially for GNU+Linux. It's a straight forward, "linear" shooter with a story and atmosphere. Granted, it needs a little polish, but the essentials are there, i.e., shooting, a story, and no time spent (read "wasted") playing around with perks, weapon mods, or special abilities. AAA titles are getting so long in dev-cycle and so complex with distractions that are NOT game-play, that they make me appreciate games like this. I hope the dev team stays with it and smooths out the rough edges, but for someone who is tired of playing shooters that make you choose how to spend your 500xp or muzzle-attachment weapon mod every five minutes, give this game a go. After finishing the game, the three things I hope they work on are; melee weapon hit area (essentially, damage is done only in the center screen, as if using a gun), enemy spawn (thankfully no re-spawning, but sometimes they do spawn right behind you), and vehicle mechanics (though the quirkiness of them does lend to a bit of fun, like try driving a Humvee up a cliff or ram full speed into an enemy tank). All those issues aside, it's a fun three hours of game play.

I honestly can't remember playing an FPS in the last 10 years that sucked as much as this. How on earth people are giving it higher reviews I don't know. Oh wait..... I do know. The hot female narrators (and boy do they like to talk); are eye candy for the boys. That's why this is getting good reviews.
The graphics are terrible. The controls are potato like and I even heard one reviewer say it had: "beautiful graphics". WTF? It just goes to show that people are getting dumber by the second.
I can't believe I was lulled into this "experience" by dumb and dumber.
There are MANY FPS games out there. It's a shame so few are good at pulling off an excellent game. (WITH NO ANNOYING MULTIPLAYER !!). It's why I keep going back to killing floor - single player. It's fun.

The Story in Chasing Dead is utterly Amazing. It goes straight forward, but it presented masterfully. The Game starts off very slow paced, a bit like any beginning and is most likely the part where most people are going to turn it off at, but once you get going, it becomes addicting, the actors and weapons system are detailed and some of the zombies you encounter you will either like or hate. The levels are quite big and detailed, at least enough to entertain you for a long time. I doubted a little, so I watched some videos on Youtube and made a right choice.
Play and enjoy, guys

Chasing dead... Is it worth of your time gents? And money?
Chasing Dead... How weird does it sound? Chasing dead. Exactly this is how it plays.
Story? You do not play this game for story. That is for one. Why? Well, first of all you fall from space into stratosphere of Earth and then luckily there is a plane in the air. you hit the plane and take only small damage. But the plane is actually crowded with zombies and they all want to kill you. So, you will take shotgun to shoot all the zombies and surely plane will be just fine.. See? You do not play it for story. You are playing it in order to see boobs. Yes, there are filmed sections which offer nice cleveage view.
So, is it worth it? Depends how desperate you are....

After playing this game for some time now I can clearly make my mind up to recommend it. Initially I was not too sure about trying out another Zombie-FPS but I can't deny that I found myself playing this game more than I first expected to.
Smooth gameplay and steady advancement through the story made it suprisingly fun to play.
Especially the fact that you can blow every single zombie to pieces makes it fun to even just keep running around and killing zombies all day long instead of actually progressing through the story :P
The game really knows how to set the mood when it comes to level design, for example by making the deserted city at the 2nd part of the story rather dark and gloomy and adding to the atmosphere by adding constant, heavy rain, giving it a way more secluded and opressive feeling.

I admit that the battle mechanics lack a little bit of depth and occasionally though the wall clipping enemies can be a little annoying but the simplicity of the fights has still somehow a almost classic and satisfying feeling to it.

Overall I would rate the game 6.5 out of 10 and some things that should be improved soon would be:
-splash damage of the rocket launcher
-enemies occasionally clipping through walls
-possiblity to change setting ingame without having to return to the main menu
-maybe slightly different sounds for dfferent types of weapons

Besides this the game feels rather well balanced, not making any weapon too OP or way weaker than others.
Considering that the things I disliked about the game can be easily fixed, I have no doubts that this game has a bright future once it takes care of the earlier mentioned problems ^_^

Chasing Dead is an action zombie game with some great features and some downsides.
If this review is too long for you, I suggest you to only read the first paragraph about the game's content and the final verdict at the end.

What is happening in the game:
You are a marine called Jake. You suddenly wake up on a plane that is going to crash. It would've been just an ordinary mission for a regular US marine, but there are also zombies on the plane. After landing the plane, your missions take place on a parallel Earth. Walking across it, you encounter many zombies that you have to kill.

Pros:
  • Cutscenes | Cutscenes are on a surprisingly high level. You rarely see such high-quality ones even in AAA games. They are acted by real people and have pretty cool sound effects.
  • Graphic Style | This game, in my opinion, looks quite good. Some areas look better than other ones, but there certainly aren't any bad ones. There are some little cons, though, which I am going to describe later.
  • Storyline | The story is quite detailed and the whole game is kind of based on it. It's true that the whole zombie thing is a little bit over-used in the current game industry, but this one is still good enough to be worth trying.
  • Weapons | There are quite a few weapons in this game, such as revolvers and shotguns, but you can also use your legs and arms to hurt zombies with your great strength.
  • Sounds | As mentioned in the Cutscenes part, the sound effects are pretty good and the music in the background also makes the action more fun.
  • Linux, MacOS | Chasing Dead supports all three biggest operating systems. Yay.
  • Steam Integration | This game also includes Achievements and Trading Cards.

Cons:
  • Pricing | I have to say that I was quite surprised by the price of this game. Some games of much higher quality have lower prices so I see no reason why this game is so costly. There was obviously a lot of effort put into the game, but that doesn't always justify the price.
UPDATE (March 9, 2016): The price was lowered to 10$/€. It's much better now.
  • Animations | Well, there aren't many. When you're reloading your gun, you hold it completely still, only the bullet count on the bottom of the screen changes its value.
  • Hitboxes | When you shoot a zombie, the game sometimes doesn't detect the hit on the enemy and no damage is done to it. This can be adapted to, when you figure out where you have to shoot for it to work, but that doesn't make it good.
  • Bugs | There are some bugs across the game. IMO they're not such a big issue, but I know it bothers some people.
  • Settings | You can barely set anything in the options menu. You can't set the resolution you want (although Unity makes it the way you would want it on most cases).

The final verdict:
This was a weird review for me to do, but I have to say that despite game's flaws, I enjoyed playing it, I really did. The cutscenes are just way better than you would expect and the gameplay is just difficult enough to make you keep trying and trying. I don't agree on the price so much, but I know some people love shooters like this one so it might be worth checking out and considering buying it on a sale.

Greetings,
BirdCute

It's been a while since I've seen live-action in a video game. What it brings back is the glory of the 90's action movie aesthetics, the thrill of survival. This game feels like you're being hunted.

Speaking of the aesthetics, the game looks gorgeous. Guns give off bright muzzle flashes, zombies go down in a heap of blood, and the levels feel like a breathing world. With the rain pounding down on you and the undending sirens wailing, there's clear love given to the world. There's no dull navel-gazing that modern zombie media goes through. We came here to KILL ZOMBIES, not sob over how 'everything's changed' and 'how did this happen'.

What other zombie games, even games like Left4Dead, fail to do is give you the fear of the unknown. If you've played those games, you know which enemies are coming, you know the map layout, you know the screams and repetitive cries that certain zombies give. You know which corpses will pop-up and shout "Boo!"

Here is where the terror begins. There are zombies hidden around every corner, behind the brush, the table, the wall. And they're not screeching like idiots like in other games. They stay silent until close, with the backgroud howls distracting you until that happens. A great move by the designers.

For $9.99? It's worth the price for making zombies scary again.

Shooter action where can I watch only occasionally.
Have bought it and started directly for hours to play and I must say the game captivates really good.

For gameplay, I can only say that the control is very well thought out and was very well reacted,.

Graphically the game is also very well done and the system requirements are not high.

The story encourages the to pursue them further and further and is from mission to mission and more interesting.
With a running time of about 12 hours, I still have not played all missions through and there are still some open missions.

The weapon variety is good and each weapon has its pros and cons.
The difficulty of the game is to is not too heavy and not too light and you can change the degree of difficulty at any time.

All in one I can only recommend the game, it is definitely worth the money!
Very much content for less money, keep it up!

If you find enjoyment in B Movies, then you wont have a problem to dive into Chasing Dead. The story is pretty straight forward and features a bunch of really unexpected locations and enemies. At some point in the game I'm pretty sure that I killed an invisible Zombie and then ate his heart to gain more health. Hilarity ensues! Also, each level comes with live-action cutscenes that are super fun to watch. I really enjoyed watching those a lot, they kind of have their own charm.

As you can see on the Store Page, the developers of Chasing Dead are also listening to their players. They rolled out several Bug fixes and adjusted their price to 9,99€ which is totally fine for a game that keeps you entertained for a few hours and lets you burst down hell of a lot of Zombies with many weapons. So far I've found a Nailed Baseball Bat, Rocket Launcher, Flamethrower, Shotguns and of course a few Rifles.

The gore mechanics of Chasing Dead are pleasing, as the models of Zombies missing half a face or half of their body actually look very good. I also liked small details, like Zombie heads that stick to your Knife after you gave them a beating. When you run around, shooting mutants and other enemies they usually go flying and get dismembered which is exactly the thing that I want in a game like this.

The only thing that bugged me a little is the AI which sometimes tends to act a little stupid, but then again it's not too bad to ruin my experience of mowing down hordes of Zombies. There also were some issues with the Hitbox, but as I'm writing this it actually got fixed.

What I liked

  • Entertaining story that is played out by real actors and are fun to watch
  • Lots of enemy variety (Mutants, Invisibles, even a Tiger!)
  • Boss fights, Vehicles
  • Gore effects
  • Regular Updates
  • Fair pricing

    What I didn't like

  • AI issues
  • Hitbox issues

The biggest issue that players had with the game seemed to be its original price and with that being adjusted I don't see a problem recommending Chasing Dead to those who enjoy Zombie settings and B movie quality cutscenes.

I really liked this game. Reminded me of Duke Nukem almost. With the style of talking during missions. I also think its really unique to mix genres like this making a movie/fps kind of game. I liked that it was somewhat grundgey and kind of made me feel nostalgia to how some games were played during my childhood. I definitely recommend this game.

Better than expected and not bad for $9.99. I would not have paid the $24.99 price.

Hit detection isn't as terrible as everyone is saying it is. The lack of control of video options is surprising.

If the developer keeps fixing bugs at the rate they ahve been doing this could shape up to be a pretty decent game.
