I've played this game back in 2010 when it first came out, and I liked it. I bought it on steam few months ago and decided to replay it, and there's no wonder i liked it even more.
First off, the gameplay mechanics are very interesting and well executed. Making ♥♥♥♥ crumble with TMD glove is great, and on the other hand you have around 10 weapons to choose in the game, and design of them is pretty good i would say. Atmosphere is good overall, there is noise all the time, you hear wind blows outside and moving ♥♥♥♥, you hear monsters eating corpses and that makes you feel frighten. So like i said, good atmosphere overall, from the point of sound at least. The design of environment does not fall behind either. First act of the game stands out on that point especially. I'm not saying that the second act is bad with environment design, just that the first is a little better in my opinion. Destroyed Kathorka 12 island looks very creepy. For example, at the beginning of the game there's a primary school made for children whose parents came to work on Kathorka, which was destroyed and left to rot with rest of the island. You can find tape recordings all over the place. Some of them are from the period before the catastrophe, and some are after. Number of recordings makes you feel bad for people left to die there, you hear them talking about 'waiting for help to arrive' and then realize, that corpse lying by recorder is the person which recorded it on the first place.
The story is good, it has a good plot, interesting details and multiple endings (which is great). I won't get further into the story 'cause of spoilers...
At the end 7.5/10 for me, maybe even 8/10, but game has a few cons, and one of them is 6 hours campaign, which is short as long as i'm concerned. Short but really enjoyable experience.

Fantastic game, despite its age. There's nothing quite like anihilating a room full of soldies with a sniper rifle that lets you steer bullets.

The game has a really creepy atmosphere. Dried out corpses are all over the place, and once in a while you get a time shift into back when they were still alive and see their suffering. You fight against monsters who used to be humans but got messed up by time radiation. You also fight against modern day soldiers. You also fight against 1950s soldiers.

You have a TMD, a special device that lets you age things (or soldiers) or revert old things back to new, among other things, like shooting time-slowing bubbles. There are quite a few "puzzles" where you have to think how to age or unage containers and power boxes, among other things, to get further.

The story... I wasn't really following it. It felt like some scientist was just telling me what to do (similar to Half-Life) and I just trudged along. I kept thinking he was about to screw me over the entire time. But the impact of what a time-altering technology in the wrong hands can do is tangible throughout the game.

So if you can handle feeling the dread of inexorable death waiting for you around the corner as you watch things decay, this game is for you!

P.S.: the game is ancient, so for obvious reasons the multiplayer is dead. You can't even start it up and wonder around the map alone.

It's pretty decent overall but the price is way wrong. This game is too flawed to be 30 dollars. It's worth about 20 bucks if you're feeling generous, but ideally pick it up for 15 bucks or less. If you do get it, make sure to play on the hardest difficulty; besides a few sections, this game is pretty easy. Definitely doesn't overstay its welcome with only about an 8 hour campaign, though. Story is nothing special, but there the atmosphere is pretty well developed. There are a lot of audio logs to listen to and notes to read if you're into that sort of thing. If not, they're easily skipped. I stopped paying attention to the story about halfway through and still had fun.

If you're starved for an FPS during a Steam sale and you somehow don't have this one already I say stop reading reviews and go for it!

Awesome mix of HL2-like tech, F.E.A.R. skirmish and twisted Bioshock-Infinite-like time-and-space travelling plot. Deserves additional points for grammatically correct signs and properly voiced lines in ЯUSSIAИ.

P.S. Ignore the first screenshot in the store page. It actually looks better in the game, if you're graphics-concerned.

As far as I can tell, even though the story is linear up until the end it's decent enough. I enjoyed my time in the game and beat it in one sitting. I found that more levels are linear and any 'secret' or 'side' parts to them simply contain some more ammo/health/tech points. By the end I'd narrowed my style down to the auto-gun and the sniper rifle with liberal use of the deadlock zones. What the sniper rifle can't kill in one hit, a burst from the auto-gun in a deadlock zone usually will.

If you're looking for a solid single player FPS that has an interesting storyline to it and some interesting mechanics, go ahead and give this a try. I did not encounter any bugs what so ever during my play through, but that doesn't happen for everyone.

Singularity is a pretty solid FPS game, though it's not worth its asking price. If you can get it at 75% off, then it is well worth your money.

To me, Singularity feels like a blend of ideas and influences from other FPS games, but it is done very well, and the end product does feel like a game of it's own, and it makes this multiple directions work well.

You play as a US soldier sent to investigate an energy surge on an island off the coast of Russia where secret experiments were performed with the fictional mineral E-99, until a massive explosion destroyed the island in the 50's. Once there, another energy surge sends you to the past, and once you return, you realize that you changed the present and that Russia rules the world. From there on, you try to fix the present by once again changing the past.
The story wants to be complex, but ends up being relatively simple and kind of falls flat, with the twist not really being a twist(and can easily be deduced 5 minutes into the game), which is revealed a moment before the final decision which leads to 3 different endings which all felt rushed and cobbled together, and none felt like a satisfactory end to the story. Still, I did enjoy it most of the time, especially when it hinted at something more intruging that the straightforward route it ended up taking.

Graphically and visually, the game felt a lot like Bioshock to me. It doesn't resemble the environments of Bioshock, but the overall atmosphere of you in a place where something bad happened prior to your arrival and the way it uses environmental storytelling with audio recordings, notes, and movies you can find felt a lot like how I explored Rapture. The HUD is almost a direct copy of Bioshock's, the best way to describe it would be to call it "Bioshock with a slightly different skin". The island design is pretty good, and I enjoyed exploring it for upgrade materials almost just as much as I did in Rapture.
Also the game frequently sends you back in time, so you get to explore the environments both now and in the 50's before the xplosion, similar to the principle used in Prince of Persia Warrior Within.

In terms of gameplay, this is where the game shines, and again, feels a lot like Bioshock, with a pinch of FEAR in the mix. You have a decent arsenal of guns, all of which can be upgraded with tech found on the way. You can also upgrade yourself, gaining increased health and other perks, some of which are very unbalanced and can potential break the game flow.
You can carry two guns at a time, and can pick up weapons and ammo from fallen enemies, as well as change your loadout at predestined locations. Some weapons offer you the ability to slow-down time while you aim, though this does not last long and has to recharge before being used again.
You are also given a TMD(time manipulation device) which grants you a small array of time powers used to solve simple, yet clever puzzles and aid you in combat. You can age your opponents to dust, freeze everything in an area, or create a large energy pulse to knock them back. Also, the TMD has all the capabilites of Half-Life 2's gravity gun, allowing you to throw explosive barrels at enemies or catch their grenades mid-air and return them.
The gunplay feels great, and the powers add enough variety to keep things interesting as you gun down russian soldiers and various mutants, though there were some enemy types which were really annoying, which is the only issue I have with the gameplay.

Overall, the game is relatively short, lasting about 3-5 hours depending on you speed, but very enjoyable experience. I do feel they could have done a little more with the game, especially in terms of the story and it rushed ending, but still, I would recommend buying the game if you can get it at a discount.

★★★★✩ {4/5 stars} Review written 16/04/2016 - I'm going to play through the game again, just so I can make my review more detailed and reference non-spoiler events. Please rate this review if it helped! :)

►Overview:

Interesting and fun, but relatively short. Considering this game was released in 2010, the graphics are really nice, and the map doesn't feel like you're going down the same path over and over again. Definitely worth a play, as it stands alone from the rest of today's cloned junk. Just be prepared to listen to a number of audio recordings and read notes if you want to get the most out of the lore.

►Full review:

At first I thought this was an awesome looking horror game, but it soon became apparent that it is indeed a shooter (The start of the game is more slow-paced and scary, which other horror/jump-scare moments spread throughout)
Although short and sweet (Only took about 7 hours, which included time spent looking around the map as well as cleaning tea out of my keyboard), this game has a lot of lore and information stuffed into it's gripping single-player storyline. It's one of those games that actually makes you think about what's happening, rather than just going around shooting stuff 'because why the hell not?' - No, this game was clearly thought out, and requires the player to make a choice that will change history just before the ending of the game.

Pros:
▪ Interesting storyline that makes the player think about what they're doing and why.
▪ Well-designed map with hidden rooms that ARE ACTUALLY WORTH DISCOVERING (and sometimes really fun to get in to)
▪ The general layout of the levels is nice. The scenery as well as structures are often detailed and pretty to look at (So when you're not getting slapped in the face by mutants or shot at by angry Russians, take a look around!)
▪ Ammo isn't *that* common during SOME parts of the game, which requries you to change weapons often, so you're not stuck using the same assault rifle the entire time.
▪ Special weapons that have unique uses are extremely fun to use at first, such as the Seeker.
▪ Fair amount of weapons, that can be re-accessed from a weapon's locker, or picked up.
▪ Neat upgrade system for weapons, powers and player upgrades.
▪ Although simple, looting feels fun.
▪ In my opinion, a great ending that wraps up loose ends.

Cons:
▫ Some parts of the game felt boring or uninteresting. But I guess every game has those moments.
▫ NO ACHIEVEMENTS.
▫ Chances are you'll end up using just one gun about three quarters of the way through the game, right up until the end. It's great, don't get me wrong, but it just makes all the other guns look useless. Guess you could do what I did, and just not use it d:
▫ Linear storyline path; meaning there aren't different ways to approach a situation. You'll just end up going in guns blazing.

Summary: [7/10] A solid shooter/RPG that draws inspiration from Stalker, Half Life, and most heavily from BioShock. If your expectations aren't through the roof, there's a good chance you'll find something to like here.

The Good:
- Generally solid implementation and integration of shooter and RPG elements
- Quite a few interesting abilities, and upgrades are available to your character
- Interesting story, fairly well delivered.
- Good atmosphere
- Soundtrack is excellent

The Mediocre:
- Visuals remain decent after 6 years, so long as your expectations aren't too high, or your enjoyment too dependent on high visual fidelity
- Difficulty curve not set very well; Singularity becomes too easy later on, due to a lack of balance between character upgrades and enemy threat level / numbers. Also, normal is incredibly easy, whereas enemy damage seems about 4x higher in hard, leading to some early frustrations
- Weapon upgrade system is very bland
- Can only carry 2 weapons at a time

The Bad:
- Some very frustrating difficulty spikes that will have you cursing at the screen.
- Checkpoint saving, not such a big problem by itself, but there aren't enough checkpoints

This game was on my backlog for a long time, but I finally played and finished it. In short, I liked it. The gameplay is good and the story kept me interested. Especially some of the flashbacks are quite dramatic and add to the story. The game allows to develop yourself and your weapons in different ways, which allows for some creativy in how to fight. However, if you use a specific weapon and ability, the game has its moments, but never becomes really difficult, even played on difficulty hard. All in all, I recommend this game, it´s good.
