What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“As a highly community content driven game, we want to give the chance to the community to add their content (made with the provided editor and API) to the game before the release.
The game mechanics are completely implemented, so is the API. Tools are ready to create stations, ships, texture packs, and PVE mission scripts, so we can integrate the best community work as a contribution to the final game.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We plan to implement the remaining features and integrate the best community content to the game inside a year.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The following features will be added by the development team during the Early Access version:
  • Completion of ship modules and buildings for level 4-5 (major).
  • Advanced ship statistics menu (minor)
  • Implementation of power balance for buildings (minor)

Also, there are still PVE missions missing. The map generator creates the PVE locations already, it displays a "mission not installed on server" message when trying to open a lobby there. We'll deploy more and more missions and at the end of Early access, publish the "best of" PVE missions from both the community and the development team, so all PVE locations already on the map will have content.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game mechanics are completely implemented, as there are:
  • Sandbox mode (Building + Exploration)
  • Economy and ressources
  • Steam Workshop integration for ship designs
  • Ship designing and building
  • PVP arenas and PVE mission lobbies (+ 1 tutorial PVE mission)
  • Research

Also, the editor and the API allows to:
  • Create objects (like stations) for the map generator
  • Create PVP arenas
  • Create and script PVE missions
  • Upload everything to Steam Workshop

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to increase the price just slightly after the Early Access, when the features are completed.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We'll pick a "best of" ships, PVE missions and space objects from the Steam Workshop to integrate to the game for the final release.
Furthermore, any feedback on bugs, additions, or feature requests are highly appreciated.”

Big Ship Module Pack, New Tutorials and Progress Report

Hello guys,
nice you're still around! There hasn't been an update for a long time for two reasons:

What's happening right now
1. We are re-writing the entire game client to increase performance. With more hardware instancing and therefore less draw calls, we can drastically increase the FPS. This requires so much of refactoring and different organization of data, that we decided to re-write the entire client. This is very time-consuming but will be worth the effort. We're still having a few memory problems, but we're on a very good track.
2. In a parallel branch, we're developing the final world level, Level 5. That's a lot of content: level 5 buildings, the level 5 ship designer, level 5 weapons, engines and other modules, level 5 NPC ships. This being said, all support work (3d modelling, sound design) has been done and we started adding it to the game. This will not last long anymore to be released.

Update
To compensate for the long downtime, we decided to publish an intermediate release. This is still the non-performance-optimized version of the game, but offers a lot new content:

Ship Module Pack
The new build introduces approx. three dozens of new ship modules, distributed over all four levels. These are mainly storage and decoration modules, to make your ships even more custom and detailed. This means, we're now close to 250 modules in total!

NPC factions complete
With the new modules introduced, we finally finished all NPC ships of all 8 races. That means: All three hostile factions and all five trade factions will now spawn at all Jump Portals from level 1 to 4 and have their unique ship designs throughout all four levels.

New Tutorials
There are two new tutorial videos, one for the Automation Lab, and one for the Research lab, explaining the transmitter system (how you can automate item production and progressing, and supply your big buildings with energy), and the research and world upgrade system.

These have been integrated to the ingame Wiki (press F1 ingame to open it), and also appear as tutorial screens, as soon as you build either building. You can also watch them on YouTube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFW5Ykr_JTc

Of course, you'll find all information on our wiki website as usual:
http://wiki.galactineers.net

We hope, you like the update and wish you a lot of fun until Level 5!

Cheers
Chris

About This Game

Galactineers is a genre-mix of open world sandbox game and realtime strategy game. You can use blocks and items to build your world in space, and also construct your own ships. Use your ships to raise an economy and build huge stations and bases, fight cooperative PVE missions, or challenge your friends in PVP arena battles.

Core feature of the game is the Ship Designer in the factory building:
Wether you need harvesters, cargo- and construction ships, observers, or even battle ships, the ship designer is the tool to create and customize your ships. You can choose from nearly 50 different block materials and hundreds of ship modules and stickers to customize your creation in look and functionality.

Higher level factories allow you to access more and higher level ship modules, but also allow you to build bigger ships. You can research, to unlock more materials, ship modules, or higher building levels.

Explore space to discover ressources, pirates nests, extra-terrestrial stations, PVP arenas, and PVE missions.

In PVP arenas, you can face off with your friends and see who built the best battle ships. You can bet for ship construction plans or ressources.

In PVE missions, you're challenged with a quest or objective, which you can try to accomplish alone, or cooperatively with up to 4 players. Win precious ressources, or unlock more ship modules for the ship designer.

Not only can you shape the world and ships to your imaginations, the game is also highly customizable!
You can create own texture packs, add recipes to the foundry to modify the economical processes, or create asteroids, stations, or buildings in the Object Editor.

Using the Object Editor to create a map and the simple PHP Programming API, you can easily script your own PVE missions and add them to the game or share them with your friends.

Share missions, objects, and ships directly via the Steam Workshop and be part of the creative Galactineers community.
