This is without a doubt my fav release of half life 2 series, I don't recommend buying this game cause alot of the story of elements in the story are not explained, what happend to mossman, the g-man motives and the borealis?
tbh im really ♥♥♥♥♥♥ at valve for leaving it like this the storyline has a great potential(ik its already awsome).its been 9 years and vlave promised ep3 when they released ep2 but then canceled the idea of episodic games and didnt confirm/denied hl3.some fans are still hoping for hl3 i personaly dont think they will ever release hl3 (propably not in my lifetime :) )

You could go outside and pursue your hopes and dreams. Instead, you're sitting inside wasting life doing something that barely brings momentary pleasure and means nothing in the long run. Why?

This game is up there as probably my 3rd favourite chapter of the Franchise, after Half-Life 2 and Half-Life: Blue Shift. This game has much stronger components and story than Episode One, and it flows so much better, as does the action. It seems that the developers also spent more time smoothing out the environment in this game, as the number of times that you get jagged on invisible barriers is far less than in Episode One.

There are a few things that again, aren't really well conceived, or are just too corny to take seriously. But overall, it's an immersive game, it's just a pity about the end.

Of course, speaking of the end of the game, whilst the story telling is immersive, it can be hard to feel empathy with any of the characters, so the final closing scene before the credits roll does miss the target IMO. But this is something that is a byproduct of the entire approach to make Gordon a shell throughout the franchise. As a shell, that emotional investiture just doesn't exist, and the feelings that you should have aren't really there. Again, it's a pity.

Will Valve make a follow up? One would hope that at some stage they will, and the rumours that are constantly online do little to asuage the feeling that the ending of this chapter is the ending of all chapters for this franchise.

At least that means no more Alyx. Because boy does she wear thin.

Although this was my least favorite out of any of the half life series, I must say it was still phenomenal and a must play! Like everyone else has stated it is a huge cliff hanger but I'm sure Valve does these things on purpose to keep the large customer base hanging on for the next game...if it ever shows up that is lol.

Buy it. Play it.

Great game, played through it when it came out, as I did with the other Half-life games. However, after waiting nearly 10 years for the promised "Half-life 2: Episode Three", my patience has worn thin, especially with the direction Valve is heading these days. I don't recommend getting this game anymore, as sad as that is. The story is not finished, many elements in the story are left unexplained. Why buy a book that is half written, with no ending?

Ends on a cliffhanger never to be resolved, don't torment yourself by getting to it.

Don't get me wrong, Half Life 2 and both of its episodes are great. They're amazing games, and I hadn't played a singleplayer game like this in a while. The reason that I don't recommend any of Half Life 2 is because of where it leaves off. Episode 2 ends on a huge, depressing cliffhanger. Mind you, this game came out 9 years ago. 9 years. And only now Valve says they "might" start working on a sequel that would be done in 2018. I mean, if you don't get sucked into games that easily, if you don't care about the characters, if you can't connect with anything this game has to offer, then go for it. Otherwise, you'll just end this with everything feeling incomplete.

I don't know, maybe I'm being too harsh. I just hate getting so immersed into a game and then having it end all of the sudden. It would be like watching a movie, and then having the film catch on fire halfway through, and then having it burn down the whole theater with all of your hopes and dreams inside.

This game is great overall, but it has its fair share of faults. Some great things are the hunters, which are a challenge (and one of the few video game enemies I actually fear), the great environments, and an antlion fight. But its faults are a fight with multiple striders and dozens of hunters at the end, the cliffhanger at the end, and most importantly, the lack of another game to tell more of the story. Valve's avoidance (e.g. silence, dodging questions) on the series seems to indicate that they've backed themselves into a corner and don't care about Half-Life anymore. Either that or they think the number three is a myth. Please Valve, talk to us.
