Got this included in the STALKER Bundle Summer Sale, saved $30 and spent $10

Anyway, this game is ♥♥♥♥ing great. At the start it's slow, but after traveling, getting missions, making decisions, etc. ♥♥♥♥ gets heavy, especially if you ain't playing it on easy or stalker mode.

I have more than the 50 or so hours that Steam claims I have. I can tell you it's closer to 300. This game is my Skyrim!

The S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series is by far my favorite franchise of all-time. With everything the modding community has done, it's not hard to fall back in love with this game. An open world survival horror shooter... It doesn't get any better than that!

If a first time PC gamer came to me and asked me for a recommendation for a PC exclusive, this is the game I would tell them to play.

While it may be slightly clunky, the atmosphere, the gun play, the creatures, the story, and the mechanics are perfected. Play this game with mods like:
Atmosfear [Detailed weather storms(This blows Fallout 4's weather out of the water)],
Complete mod (graphics overhaul),
Arsenal Overhaul (100+ Nato, RU weapons, and realistic damage), and
MISERY (hardcore Dark Souls mode).

The game will not disappoint.
Rating:96/100

NOTE: THIS REVIEW IS FOR VANILLA STALKER COP.

Stalker CoP is a return to the zone with more emphasis on exploration compared to its previous entries. It also features the least difficult intro segment compared to the prior games. While this may turn off some "hardcore" players, CoP is no easy ride. The game is still difficult and will punish players who play too quickly. That being said CoP is almost on par with SoC and sometimes is better on certain aspects. For starters players can now transition from day to night with the ability to sleep, bandages are back to being common again compared to Clear Sky, and the game has a better weapon upgrade system compared to its predecessor. CoP also has factions and brings artifact hunting to being the player's main source of income next to side quests. CoP however has the weakest main quest in the series. The player is tasked to track down helicopters that crashed in the zone, recover their information, and meet with any suvivors. CoPs strongest aspect is exploration. The main quest does not have the player explore every area in the game's 3 hub worlds (The Skadovsk, Yanon, and Pripyat) and players will be reward with excellent gear when doing so. The 3 hub worlds are large but feel dissapointing seeing that the prior games had up to 8 hub worlds to be in, however, memorable areas like Lab X8 are back and ungrounded caves are apleanty.

Pros:
- Fixes many problems introduced in Clear Sky.
- Added ability to pass time via sleep.
- The most stable version of vanilla stalker.
- Arguably the least difficult intro segment compared to other Stalkers.
- PDA map is more detailed
- Ability to upgrade your headgear and expanded upgrade system in previous games.
- Great amount of side quests.
- Ability to hotkey medical items.
- Added emission storms which reset the anamolies certain areas.
- Hud is now expanded to provide more information.
- Hunger system is back, making food more than just an alternative to health kits.
- The best looking inventory in Stalker.
- While there are only 3 hub worlds, labs and underground bunkers are still here.
- Multiple endings and factions to side with.
- The mutant Ai for dogs and other beasts like chimera are amazing, as they attack one another, eat their prey, and can be seen dragging their prey to their respective packs. Chimeras also hunt at night and can be easily killed by taking advantage of their sleep cycles.
- Stealth is still here and is a option.
- The more your discover and wander, the game rewards you with treasures, gear, or even memorable moments thanks to its unscripted Ai.
- Gunplay in CoP feels the most polished with weapons having bullet drop, varied recoil depending on the weapon, and enemies have the same properties as the player (higher the difficulty, higher the damage, which also goes for the enemies.)

Cons:
- Weak main quest which can be finished really quickly.
- The engine has taken a hit as vegetation now grow before your very eyes.
- The game does have some bugs.
- Emission storms define certain buildings as safe spots, not just any building which might be a bit fustration for newcomers.
- Save system is still weak so be ready to smack that F5 key.
- Cutscenes are a bit akward with characters having rigid movement.
- 3 Main Hub worlds.
- While factions exist, it still feels somewhat shallow as it simply determines what type of weapons merchants sell and how others talk to you.
- Ai can be spotty at times. Friendlies will shoot you on accident if your in their line of fire BUT will continue shooting. On higher difficulties it almost feels like the Ai has some ridiculous aim and an amazing throwing arm for grenades.
- Certain features may turn off players such as weapon jam being random (keep your items repaired) and how artifacts are hunted.
- Money runs everything, you can no longer travel between hubs on your own but must pay a guide. Weapon repairs are also done with money only.

Stalker CoP is some of the few rpgs thay I sank lots of time into. It manages to be fun after many playthroughs since the game rewards you for exploring areas which might lead you to a new quests, underground labs with locked doors which only increase your curiosity, and the many secrets the game has in store. It's also the only Stalker that seems 100% playable in vanilla as it has so many features that are well polished compared to Soc or Clear Sky. However, this game is not for the weak willed, it will push you and place you in uncomfortable situations which can be memorable or just fustration for some players. Tread lightly, there is no tutorial and no hand holding.

Summer sale, so get ready for "hurr it's too hard it looks old hurr durr it's not call of duty too realistic 0/11 durrr"

Stalker, including Call of Pripyat invites you. Not with open arms, but it invites you.
Invites you to explore, do missions, take sides. Invites you to try that new gun and invites you to check out that dark tunnel.
Only to laugh in your face when some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ waits around the corner with a shotgun or when a godless spawn of satan himself awaits you at the exit after a seemingly trouble free endeavour.

You will die, you will get scared, and you will come back for more because curiousity gets the best of you.

And don't get cocky. You're not as good as you think you are.

Edit: Get the Arsenal Overhaul mod. Includes Atmosfear and Absolute Nature. Don't forget the crash fix for the last mission.

Zaton, Misery.

Walking. Watching the sun slowly rise, it could've been a scene from a thousand years ago- with no cars, no lights, no noise but the animals and wind through the trees.

Human interference seemed so minute, I barely noticed the subtle gunfire in the background, the cracked and blistered road I walked across.

Then suddenly-

CRACK.

Something small and fast whizzes past my head like a bee.

No time to check.

I hold shift and book it.

There's a van nearby. Maybe two metres, maybe four.

I make a line straight for it.

CRACK.

I hear the bullet thump into the road. A plume of dust floats past the van i'm hiding behind.

I pull my gun out from it's holster.

It's a 357 magnum revolver. Condition is terrible, and rust visibly coats the gun like fungus on a tree.

Three shots. Better make them count.

Pull the hammer back, ready to fire.

I hold it steady, creeping my way to the edge of the van.

I peak out the side. Slowly. Carefully. Don't make it obvious.

Binoculars out.

In front of me is a hill. Tall and green, with a thick layer of grass and foliage covering the top like mould.

Something flashes in my eyes. Movement. I track it like a sniper.

The grass is moving, alive like some unknown mutated creature of the zone.

I look closer.

Whoever it is, his outift blends in well with the greenery. He evidently hasn't noticed me yet, and he's moving down the hill no doubt for a better view.

On his back is a long gun. Maybe a rifle, maybe a shotgun. It's metallic sheen stands out like a sore thumb amongst the natural hues surrounding it.

I check my gun again. Yeah. Definitely just three shots.

I wait.

He reaches the edge of the hill. Cautious. Careful.

Starts running.

Not close enough yet.

As soon as he goes past the van, that's when I'll start moving.

From over his shoulder he reveals his gun to be a shotgun. The long barrelled 'over-under' type.

It'd be deadly if I give him the chance to use it.

His aproach is swift, not wanting to be caught out in the open road, completely disregarding the van I could be hiding behind.

Now.

I slowly creep to the back of the van.

Small, miniscule steps mark my way as I go, gun aimed with an intense trigger finger.

It finally centres over his head.

I stand up.

Calmly walk out into the road. Gun still trained on his head.

I wait until he notices something. The subtle echo of footsteps, or just good situational awareness, he eventually hazards a look behind him.

"ANNU CHEEKI BREEKI IVV DAMKE," I scream in real life, as I hit mouse1.

The gun jerks back as a plume of smoke appears at the front end of the barrel, and my vision goes hazy at the edges for a moment.

Then it happens again. Then again. What? What the hell is happening? The same sounds, the same bullet sound, over and over again until -

"X-ray engine has stopped working. Windows is trying to find a solution to the problem,"

10/10 Would have the game crash on me again.

You know that sensation when you finish a great book or great movie, that sensation of emptiness inside of your heart, knowing that you have to say goodbye to the characters and story, and know that you will never have the same experience again?

You'll get that sensation when finishing Call of Pripyat. Just buy it already.

This game is literally the love of my life.
Horrifying, radiation-riddled waifu/husbando.

If you have a thing for slow(-ish) and methodical FPS, survival, horror, sci-fi, and post-apocalyptic scenes, you will not regret giving this game a try.

You should keep in mind though, that this game (Call of Pripyat) takes place after the "main" events of the game. If you care for story (you kind of should, but it's not necessary to enjoy the game), you should play Shadow of Chernobyl first. It's older and the first game in the series but it's not worse in quality.

Clear Sky is the second game in the series and a prequel to Shadow of Chernobyl. You can ignore it.

I have probably around 300-500 hours total in the game, but I only recently (130 hours of gameplay) bought the game on Steam for ease of reinstall. (The game has a somewhat active modding scene.)

This is the best in the series, IMO and one of my favorite games. Was made by the talented developers at GSC Game World, which later became the 4A games that made the fantastic Metro series. This game's great and even better with mods( which you can find at moddb). This is a MUST have for anyone interested in post-apoc FPS games.

Takes an hour to figure out and get into, but you won't put it down when you do. For new players, I suggest playing on vetern and youtubing "STALKER Call of Pripyat secrets", so you can find where stashes are to get a good early weapon.
For mods; I'd suggest atmosfear, absolute nature and absolute structures. Check out Misery after you beat the game once, because it's much harder and changes a lot.

10/10 - We need a redux version of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games.

More mutant mayhem

The story in CoP takes up where SoC left off (although you play as a different character) so it seems fitting that I played the games in that order, missing out Clear Sky (for now). As with SoC, this is quite a tough game (no hand-holding here), although it didn’t seem quite as tough as the original. It’s also a good deal shorter, with the main storyline taking about 15 hours to complete (there are, of course, a fair few side quests, but I didn’t complete all of them). The graphics are an improvement over the original, especially if you use some of the mods available. It’s also less buggy. The voice acting is okay, if a little variable, as are the character animations. This is, in many ways, a straightforward continuation of what has gone before, and the impressive STALKER atmosphere is maintained along with the challenging gameplay. Despite the improvements, however, there is less diversity in the environments compared to those found in SoC, and the world is less expansive than it is in SoC. And the story, although more coherent, is somewhat lighter. But this is still an immersive and enjoyable game to play. 3.5/5
