S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat is the final entry in the Stalker franchise, and it's a damn good one at that. CoP redeems the slight disappointment that was Clear Sky through its 20-25 hour runtime, returning to its roots in Shadow of Chernobyl and polishing the experience considerably. In the interest of summing up Call of Pripyat, I'll be going over its presentation, gameplay, and story, as well as giving some of my final thoughts.

The graphics of Call of Pripyat are very similar to those of previous games in the series, but are minimally improved. Textures, modeling, shadows, and weather are the most noticeable improvements, bringing The Zone to life more effectively than ever before. The lighting is also still breath taking, and never failed to add to the substantial atmosphere the Stalker series has always had. The only thing that wasn't near-perfection visually was the draw distance (especially of foliage), but this can be remedied by installing a mod called "Absolute Nature", and selecting any of the options which cause grass to render over 100 meters away. The audio of CoP is very similar to that of the rest of the series, but does add some new and improved ambiance and sound tracks. It's also important to mention that, like the rest of the series, only key characters ever speak in English, and on all other occasions you must read their text or hear them speak Russian. On the performance side of things Call of Pripyat does a decent job, as I never experienced any crashes, but I did suffer large stutters when entering new areas. By and large Pripyat does a great job representing The Zone we all know and love, and looks better than ever doing it.

I'm happy to say that following the near-disaster of Clear Sky's gameplay, Call of Pripyat swooped in and returned to the much better systems and mechanics first introduced in SoC. Starting off with the combat, it's as tense, difficult, and fair as we've all always wanted it to be, and does so by reintroducing intelligent AI, realistic 3-4 hits-and-you're-dead combat for both you and your enemies, as well as strategic level design. These elements coupled with the fantastic stealth, bleeding, and faction systems solidify Call of Pripyat as a great survival shooter. Speaking of the faction system, it should be mentioned that there is much less focus on this aspect of the gameplay than in CS, and operates more similarly to the way it worked in SoC. Another stellar aspect of the gameplay is the new way questing is approached. Gone are the days of all of the side quests being one of three generic objectives, as there is now much more narrative work and depth put into each side quest than ever before. This is even more of a treat when you consider how it leads to organic exploration, as you now have reasons of narrative importance to visit many of the games interesting locations. The map itself is different to both SoC and CS's, the new one now confined to a swath of land much closer to The Zone's center, which has been split up into three portions; Zaton, Jupiter, and Pripyat. Do not let this fool you though, as the overall size of the map is similar to its forerunners, just faintly smaller. Some miscellaneous but important things to mention about the gameplay of Call of Pripyat is that there is more anomaly and monster variety than previously, a return of the hunger mechanic, decently emphasized survival-horror elements on occasion, improved weapon and armor modifications, inventory management, as well as the annoying emissions from Clear Sky, which have made a return. Altogether I would say I am thoroughly pleased by the gameplay of Call of Pripyat, as it is near on par with Shadow of Chernobyl's, and certainly leaves Clear Sky's in the dust.

In Call of Pripyat you play as Major Degtyarev, a member of the Ukrainian Special Services (USS) who has gone undercover as a Free Stalker into The Zone. Your objective is to investigate the failure of Operation Fairway, which was an USS attempt to reach the center of The Zone via direct helicopter insertion. If you're wondering why everything is in such close proximity to the center of The Zone now, I'll just jog your memory by saying that it's due to the direct actions of Strelok in Shadow of Chernobyl. Moving on, your mission will take you all over the center of The Zone, causing you to experience everything this little world within a world has to offer, eventually blurring the lines between you as a military agent, and you as a true S.T.A.L.K.E.R. This aspect of your character and the narrative works perfectly with the more story driven side quests, as they make you very invested in every minor detail of The Zone and the people struggling to survive within it. I cared more about the desperate people around me than ever before within a Stalker game, and I think I can attribute that to the overall more detailed writing than previous entries in the series. I'd also like to say that there are many clever call backs to Shadow of Chernobyl and Clear Sky, which I think will please fans of the series. My favorite part of the story by far though, has to be the ending. While somewhat unceremonious, I was genuinely affected by the realistic, yet very much hopeful outlook on the future of The Zone, which has been bettered by the actions of the player character through Strelok, Scar, and Major Degtyarev. All in all, the narrative of CoP is a memorable one, which fits the series perfectly, and ends on a high note.

Final Thoughts
Stalker: Call of Pripyat is just as good as Shadow of Chernobyl in my eyes, the two being games that impress in different ways. I thoroughly enjoyed my 70 hour stay in The Zone throughout the series in its entirety, and the ending of CoP was one that put weight on your actions across all the games, and showed how you have caused great change within The Zone. Pripyat is a wonderful game, and upon completing it and the rest of the Stalker series, I finally understand what it means to be true Slav.

Now, get out of here Stalker, and remember to stay Cheeki Breeki.

Best singleplayer survival game , most immersive fps game ever , with awesome modifications (Misery mod + arsenal / Cop Redux etc etc...)

Just one of the best game series i have ever played in my entire ♥♥♥♥ing life !

It says i have only 79 hours in game , but i got the three Stalker games on DVD too , i may have easily 800+ hours on those games !

GSC , now that you are back , you know what to do if Cossacks 3 is a success !

A typical day as a STALKER:

I wake up as day breaks on an old ship we STALKERs use as a makeshift base. I check my gear for the day; one pump-action shotgun for the mutants, and a rifle in case one of my own decides he wants my gear. I make sure I have enough food for the day, drugs in case some form of radiation decides to run rampant through my body, a few medkits and bandages, and my artifact detector. I decide its a perfect day for artifact hunting. As I step out the ship, I hear gun shots to the north, my intended direction. F*** that, I'll go somewhere else.

On my way to the first anomaly, I suddenly hear shrieks and the sound of ruffled bushes. As I turn toward that direction, a snork leaps its way toward me, claws ready to dig straight through my throat. Luckily I had my shotgun out, and I was quicker than him. As my slugs blow off his face, another one follows, but I make short work of him too. Unharmed and feeling confident, I continue to the anomaly.

Before I'm even halfway there, a fight breaks out between a group of stalkers and bandits. I lay in wait, hoping the two groups wipe each other out. Suddenly the bandits have an overwhelming advantage. Then I'm spotted. My rifle fires into the head of the first two, but I'm not so lucky with the third. His bullets clip my side. I quickly bandage them up to stop the bleeding, pop out of cover and fire, exploding his head. I use my medkit to heal everything up, and a few minutes later I'm back on track.

Or so i thought. Out stomps a god damn psuedogiant, as large as a frickin SUV. As I'm running, I see a group of stalkers and head in there direction. They see the situation, and begin to fire into the giant, as do I. But it's not enough. The thing destroys these three stalkers, but while he was distracted, I managaed to lay a few grenades under him, and finish him off with the shotgun.

It's nearing night, and stalkers know thats when more of these mutants come out, and not just the ones I've seen. I'm frightened I'll run into a buror, or a controller. Not to mention the horde of wild dogs hungry enough to sink their teeth into any form of flesh. I'm make my way back to the old ship.

What was I out here for again?

The Stalker trilogy grew with time improving in each new chaper more, so this last one receive the benefits from the experience devs gained releasing other 2.

The search for manufacts continues and is even more improved the system to find them with ultra modern detectors.

The annoying emissions continue even inside this game, but this time the system was improved by devs a lot so that they're no more a problem, i completed the whole game and i never got killed one time by any of them....The improvements are made increasing the number of places you can now hide to take cover, so, wherever you'll be, you'll always find a close cover in the zone near you, you'll no more be forced to 20 miles marathons in 30 seconds like in CS.

A new, great and very nice feature of this game are the Achievements, no, not the Steam ones, cause this game has none, but i'm referring to special ingame achievements, and they are not useless, each one will give you ingame various bonus, very useful to survive in the Zone, some of them will help also to make money easier so that you'll no more have that problem too and if you'll play smart you'll be rich already at 1/3 of the game ^^

This was probably the first and only Stalker game where i had some real fun and less stress, but at end, with the Gauss Gun in my hands i was really too much overpowered hehe ^^

In clonclusion, probably (i repeat, thanks to the experience from first 2) the best chapter of the serie, altough not perfect, but very close to be, recommended to experienced fps players and to everyone who want a challenge but without too much stress.

Let's be frank here. I've played games since I picked up an N64 controller when I was two, that was way back in '97, and I haven't regretted it since.

That being said, this game is terrifying, between the invisible Cthulhu Men and what I assume are the Former Soviet union's attempt at creating a Pokemon (Psy dogs, come on, fight me). This game has the atmosphere of an Alfred Hitchcock film, and it delivers like a full steel-toed boot to the face.

I love it. I love the fact that vodka gets rid of radiation. I love the fact that I can shoot spoopy ghosts, and I love the fact that I can just pilfer through the bodies of my enemies and steal their vodka, ammo, and canned food. This game isn't the least bit friendly, you will die, you will cry, both from anger and fear, and you will ♥♥♥♥ your trousers when you accidentally fall into a snork cave.

Get this game, get your vodka and get out of here Stalker.

the 91 hours ive played in this game have honestly been some of the greatest time ive ever spent, sometimes im shocked to see that 91 hours is all ive played as it feels as though ive been in the game for days sometimes even weeks. To sum it up this game is 100% one of the greatest games ever made, the atmosphere in this game is a whole new level. The whole stalker series and setting puts all of the fallouts to shame in my personal opinion. It saddens me even more however that Call of Pripyat will potentially be the last stalker made unless someone, fingers crossed decides to revive this series of pure beauty and bring it back. This game may not be the best by todays standards in graphics or physics but for a game of its time its amazing, and if the graphics are a problem for you there sseveral absolutely brilliant mods out there for this game. STALKER is something that sticks with you and you will always finding yourself returning to the gritty atmosphere with a bottle of vodka your hand on your trusty AK shouting Cheeki Breeki for internity.

Good lord this is a good game. Full disclosure, I'm playing with the "CoP: Complete" mod after the whole Shadow of Chernobyl vanilla disaster way back when that first came out. I can highly recommend the mod but seems CoP's vanilla stands on its own as well. so yeah. 8/7

Possibly one of my favorite apocalypse games of all time. The best way I could some this up is imagine Metro, OK now picture it as an open world with realism aspects. Great, now don't over feed it as a Metro game because S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is without a doubt on its own leauge. So far I can't say what the story is, you just spawn in this dangerous, enigma of a old lost world, an aftermath in the city of Pripyat, Ukraine, 'after the Chernobyl nuclear reactor that exploded in 1986'.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat is a hard game. I would suggest looking at toturials for new beginners and start in a lower difficulty until you apprehend the gameplay roots. And once you've achieve to this point why not take it a step foward? I'm talking about mods, mods in S.T.A.L.K.E.R:COP makes the experience much more ever-lasting. I'm going to show you a few mods I highly recommend to DL:

Call of Pripyat Variation Mod:
"Call of Pripyat Variation Mod is a personnel project of mine, it touches on the idea that not every S.T.A.L.K.E.R. should wear the same outfit color,type, style. New models and textures are being added every day and eventually mutants as well! Call of Pripyat Variation Mod is meant to be used as a base for any other mod, the mod easily adds hundreds of new meshes for all to see!"
(Mod was succefully complete on the date of Nov 27 2014!)

"Full concept MODIFICATION of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat that touches every game aspect including textures, sfx, music, weapons, A.I., items, weather, mutants, difficulty and much much more!"

Sleeping Bag CoP:
Adds sleeping bags into the game. Can be purchased by merchants.

Console Controlled FOV:
This mod allows you to change the FOV which unfortunately the game doesn't allow this option from the get go.
(Do not use this mod with Misery as you will not need it, Misery already supplies this option!)

For it's time the graphics are OK in my opinion, only issue I had visually was the FOV which is set at 55 for defualt, which for some-- and surely for me got me motion sickness. But clearly this can be fixed with mods^ I suggest increasing the FOV to 85 or 90. Either works best. Anyway I noticed some flaws. The game tries to have a scary atmosphere, which it succeeds on some parts but fails on others. Example the audio. The game tries too hard to be scary by constantly playing creature/monsters sounds in the background, this can be incredibly annoying simply because you're not sure rather there is actually something there or not.(Note this could simply be a bug) Also, it feels awfuly cheesy. But again, luckily there are mods that can fix this and a helpful community. Also, like I mentioned, I'm not sure there is a story at all, just a lore, which works for some games and definitely this one!

Lastly, I'm rating S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat a: 9/10
The game is really challenging and if you're looking for a realistic apocolypse, look no further, friend!

Every time I play this game, I have had to quit due to bugs. This last time, I was actually enjoying myself once I got some mods installed. And then I went back to Skadovsk and couldn't get my weapons to show up again.

At least Shadow of Chernobyl can be completed. These other STALKER sequels, though......

Mmm.... Fresh air of Chernobyl. *sniff* *coughing intensely*

Not that hard to survive in the Zone; get some khleb, kolbasa, and vodka and you're good to go. Get some gun as well—there's nothing in the Zone as fancy as AK-74. It's less likely to break especially when you have to spray snorks in the corners as well as bandits. Truly came in handy.

Afraid of radiation? No problem. Got some vodka? Then you don't need to worry.

Best moment? When someone shouts "Ahh nu, cheeki breeki i v damke!", of course.

The lag spike and occasional crashes separate me and CoP and tainted my quality time in the Zone, but no worries.

Want to take a hike around the Zone? Get the Complete mod and savor the wholesome experience of STALKER like your life depends on it.

I give STALKER: CoP 10/10
