This game is literally the love of my life.
Horrifying, radiation-riddled waifu/husbando.

If you have a thing for slow(-ish) and methodical FPS, survival, horror, sci-fi, and post-apocalyptic scenes, you will not regret giving this game a try.

You should keep in mind though, that this game (Call of Pripyat) takes place after the "main" events of the game. If you care for story (you kind of should, but it's not necessary to enjoy the game), you should play Shadow of Chernobyl first. It's older and the first game in the series but it's not worse in quality.

Clear Sky is the second game in the series and a prequel to Shadow of Chernobyl. You can ignore it.

I have probably around 300-500 hours total in the game, but I only recently (130 hours of gameplay) bought the game on Steam for ease of reinstall. (The game has a somewhat active modding scene.)

At first I was skeptical, it being an older game and all, and I didn't want to waste my time with clunky controls and bad graphics. But then I read the reviews. It was apparent that many people loved this game, so I dug a bit deeper. Turns out, a team of fans got together and made one of the best game revamps that doesn't change the core gameplay I've seen since some of those crazy Skyrim mods. This mod is called "Call of Pripyat: Complete" and I highly recommend getting it if you get this game. After learning about this mod, I was just about ready to buy and then I saw some reviews that said it was basically a free world Metro 2033 with super cheeki breeki russians. if that's not going to get you to buy this game, I don't know what is.

Amazing...just amazing!
I played the first game on a disk i found last 2 years, and that was a true horror game with an overwhelmingly story and shooting.
This game is truely overwhelmingly positive! the atmosphere is amazing and every character you meet causes you to change and maybe a little sad when they died...
If i suggest buying this game? i suggest buying the complete pack (altho clear sky isn't that good as the first and third game)
AS A BONUS: if you finish the game, download MISERY mod for the game. its a must play mod!

the thing i really love about this game is how linear the missions are as well as the fact that tasks and main story missions seem to harmlessly blend together.

pros: linear based missions and gameplay that blends into the open world

cons: a smaller map than some competing games but certainly impressive for the time of production

CoP in an of itself is a very good game. Mod it though and it becomes phenomenal! Personally, I recommend Call of Chernobyl with the Absolute Nature/Structures, Arsenal Overhaul 3, and Warfare addons. There's no story, but all the maps from all three Stalker games are completely unlocked and free to roam through. Then, with the Warfare mod, you're suddenly in a massive faction war across the entire map vying for dominance. It's absolutely brilliant!
Oh, and also, all hail the Monolith!

Cheeki Breeki.
good game, short, but fun.
the story writing in this game isnt too bad, could be better though.
Graphics make this game give off its own unique feel, it fits the game, and i think if it had next gen graphics it would ruin the game.
cant loot armor of the enemies sadly, kind of would be op if you could get your hands on some high end gear at the beginning just because you murdered some duty patroll guys.
i love the ending, i wont spoil but its such a good way to end a game like this in my opinion.
sadly though there wasnt enough in the main quest line, it would have been nice to have a few hundred more hours in it but it was not the worst in the world.
7/10

Not a detailed review, just wanted to express my appreciation for this open-world survival game which I played for the second time on Steam.

Great atmosphere and weather, beautiful landscapes, nice story and side-quests too; game is not so hard on vanilla (you'll die a lot anyway) but that's how games should be, in my opinion... Challenging but entertaining at the same time.
Apart from some FPS' drops (I have an old graphic card, though), the game is bug-free, cut scenes are not the best but the ending pictures are very nice (they remind me a lot of Fallout ending style).

That's it, if you haven't done it already, go for a walk in the zone. You'll make friends and have some vodka :)

Im gonna skip the amazing graphics, sound, atmosphere and gameplay, and tell you the most important thing: this game has the best AI in any game to date. The developer was inspired by FEAR in terms of AI in battles: the enemies flank you, sneak up on you, take cover, give commands.

But this is not just an FPS, it is also an RPG, and HOLY CRAP! if this aint the best RPG out there, then please let me know! Thus, the AI extends outside of combat. Monsters travel in packs and engage in fights with other monsters and humans for survival's sake. If the fight seems to be in their favor, they will engage, otherwise they will fall back and move along. Squads of stalkers patrol the Zone: sometimes to defend their base, sometimes to recapture a point. Sometimes it's just one greedy stalker trying to retrieve an artifact from an anomaly so that he can sell it later.

And that's another thing about this game: artifacts and their anomaly counterparts. You see, this is the Zone. Radiation has chnaged many things, not just animals and humans. You will find these mini puzzles with an expensive artifact as a reward. Sometimes it's a timed electricity trap. Sometimes it's a gravitational anomaly that holds the ground and water up in the air in an unnatural fashion.

Marketing is killing the gaming industry nowadays. Sales people push developers to improve on graphics and numbers: more DLC, more weapons, more maps, more more more. And it seems like everyone has forgotten the other ingredients that make a game good. Such as AI.

If you haven't played this game yet, buy it now! I have spent most of my time playing STALKER: Clear Sky (cheaper), which puts more emphasis on factional warfare. But as far as I can tell, this one is just as good, if not better.

Call of Pripyat definitely lives up to the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. name!
10/10 obviously.

These games have never failed to impress me. The Call of Pripyat Complete mod does volumes to improve upon the look and feel of this game, although without the mod I'd still say the game is damn near perfect like any of the other S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games. However, compared to the other games I felt like this game was... smaller... mostly because there didn't seem to be as much territory to explore. The story also seemed to be lacking a bit after playing SoC, which had an incredible story to it. They made it work though with plenty to do! I'm a huge fan of both the Fallout series and the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series, and although I spend way more time on Fallout, I have to admit S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is a way better RPG (if one can even consider Fallout to be an RPG).

As a technical note, I've played this game until its final culminating 10 minutes, because the game just doesn't manage to keep itself running when I reach a certain point in the final evacuation, about halfway through the mission. After seeing videos about the final minutes, I haven't missed too much.

So, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.. Perhaps my favorite game series of all time. In many ways a review of this final installment of the series is a commentary on them all. Excluding obvious technical remarks about poor optimization, poor stability at times and glitches ranging from hilarious to potentially game-breaking, I have mostly praise to deliver.

Stalker-games all center around on adventuring - and at times, merely surviving - in what possibly is the most wonderful theme that has ever blessed mankind, which at the same time is one of the most horrific disasters striking that said mankind. Stalker-games' relation to the accident at Chernobyl is tangential at best (the same could be said about its relation to the Roadside Picnic novel and Stalker movie), it still captures enough of the real to make for compelling fantasy. Reality does not stop at the theme itself, but the fact that much of the speech and non-spoken text is also preserved in its original form of Russian (even though it should probably be Ukrainian, but what do we stupid self-centered westerners know?) makes the game feel so much more genuine than your run-of-the-mill modern shooter, where the most foreign element you encounter is heavily accented English.

Even though Stalkers do not aim to be ARMA-like simulators, they nonetheless take certain pride in their genre. Iron sights are viable, even mandatory, and different weapons and alternative ammunition are plenty, if somewhat dumbed-down in this third installment, compared to the first game. Armor and weapons can be upgraded with numerous convincing-sounding doodads which, while not always presenting itself too clearly what their actual benefit to the player is, serves as an addictive middle-term goal. With some differences I would say all Stalker-games can be discussed as a one entity. Even though balance changes between each game, and the first game being possibly mechanically most poor, if you like one Stalker-game, you probably at least tolerate them all.

To say something about Call of Pripyat itself, while being immensely recommendable to all shooter game fans, it still falls short compared to what I see as the Ultimate Stalker, Shadow of Chernobyl. While it does quite well exploring its own side of the universe, it still manages to deliver the story as more simple, much less mystical and intriguing as the first two games did. It feels too much like an epilogue, which it irreversably is. Possibly this is partially planned. Without going into too much (spoiler-)detail, to the player the Zone no longer bears any mysticism. You have already learned its secrets, already know what makes it tick. You no longer even play a lone wanderer intent on deciphering its secrets, you are a government man on a mission that only accidentally happens to uncover more of the truth. And even in this it manages to do so in almost sorrowful frontier fiction -fashion: now that mystery is solved, control can be established and the myth has to make room for reality. What was already a world of the past ceases to exist altogether. In a considerably concrete way the game punts you out to the post-Stalker world. The Old can be revisited, but never again experienced in the same way. Or that is how I, with a touch of melodrama, understand it.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.-games offer a quite unique and compelling setting in an enjoyable, if unpolished way. Their genuine delivery feels exceptionally loving treatment of an IP, at least comparing to many modern shooters, or games in general. If one requires alleviation to Stalker-withdrawal, Metro-series is a worthy runner-up, if not a perfect match. 5/5 x 3.
