Over dit spel

Behold Torchlight, a fresh new Action RPG franchise developed by Runic Games. Torchlight is being developed in Seattle by a veteran team composed of the designers and leads of projects like Diablo, Diablo II, Mythos, and Fate. Our team has spent many years honing and evolving this unique style of gameplay.

The adventure is set in the mining settlement of Torchlight, a boomtown founded on the discovery of rich veins of Ember - a rare and mysterious ore with the power to enchant or corrupt all that it contacts. This corruptive power may have dire consequences however, and players set out into the nearby mountains and depths below to discover the full extent of Ember’s influence on the civilizations that have come before.

Runic Games will initially release Torchlight as a standalone Single Player game, Torchlight will be released in the latter part of 2009 as a download or in box. Following the single player release, work will commence on a fully-featured MMO version.

Single Player Version

Players will choose from among three character classes, and venture from the safety of the town of Torchlight into randomly generated dungeon levels, with a huge variety of creepy monsters, endless variations of loot to find, and quests to complete. The endless randomization ensures a long-lived gameplay experience.

  • Randomization - Our level layouts are randomly created, so each adventure is unique. Monsters, treasures, puzzles, and items are also different each time you embark on an adventure
  • Easy, approachable interface - Torchlight is designed to be easy to play right from the beginning. The intuitive interface gives players easy access to a rich and varied world
  • Retirement System - Once characters are sufficiently leveled up, they can “retire” and bestow specific benefits and perks to new characters
  • Pets - Players will choose a pet to accompany them. Pets can level up along with the player, and will help in battle, carry items, and perform a variety of helpful services
  • Character Classes - Players will create and customize a character from one of three classes available, and choose an animal companion. Through cosmetic choices, skill path decisions, and the treasures they acquire, each character will be custom-tailored and different
  • Fishing - Players can take a break from the high-energy pace of adventuring to visit one of the fishing holes and relax and see what they can catch. Fish have interesting benefits for the player and pet, and other rewards can also be discovered
  • Included Editor - Runic Games is embracing our modding community by including an editor so our players can create and design their own content
  • Steam Cloud - Save your game progress to the Steam Cloud and resume from another computer. However, save games are not cross platform; PC saves will not migrate to Mac and vice-versa.

Collecting armor and weapons and experimenting on character builds got me hooked. Can be repetitive if you don't explore the potential of your character but overall one of the best hack-n-slash games out there. Definitely worth buying and playing.

Aimless hack and slash. Everything is very monotonic and extremely repetetive. Waste of time.

Torchlight by Runic games is a Diablo like action RPG.

Pros:
-Addictive gameplay
-Cel Shaded Graphics have aged ok
-Chill Fun
-Has been very cheap in sales or even free on GOG

Cons:
-Starting to show its age

I have never played either of the Torchlight games, was good to finally give it a bash and see what I was missing.

Loving it so much, until it crashed and permanently deleted hours of labouring. Yes, i tried following the related instructions on save recovery, but no luck. I cant in good faith recommend this game, as it failed on something so important. Torchlight 2 is great however.

Yes, I'm aware that Torchlight is a "Very Positive" game, but that does not make it immune to criticism. I didn't write this review simply to be a contrarian jerk.

Videogames age, some more than others. At times, all it takes is for a game to receive a sequel, in order for its age to become readily apparent. Torchlight II improves on the original in every conceivable way. I'll even go as far as to say that Torchlight has been rendered obsolete. There's literally no reason to play Torchlight 1 over its sequel, or over the great many other loot-heavy action RPGs that have been released over the years.

The absolute biggest problem with this game is the difficulty curve. I played through this game on normal, and for 9/10ths of the game, there wasn't any challenge. However, once I got to the final portion of the game, I started running into Dark Zealots. Dark Zealots have auto-targeting instant lightning. All it takes is a couple crits and I die. I admit that my lightning resistance wasn't up to snuff, but the fact that this attack is completely unavoidable is ridiculous. Once Dark Zealots start appearing, they're bound to show up fairly often throughout the post-game. I was on the 5th floor of the Shadow Vault and a Dark Zealot's lightning brought me from full health to death.

I played through Torchlight II on hard difficulty. A veteran is likely to pop in here and say "That's still way too easy." but hear me out. Torchlight II on hard was more consistent than Torchlight 1 on normal. The game remained fairly challenging (for me) throughout the entirety of the main campaign. I didn't sleepwalk through the game, nor did I suddenly get a heaping helping of horse manure towards the end of it and beyond.

By the way, why does Ordrak have 3 billion HP? Why can he summon countless dragons and skeletons? I'm positively boggled that anyone signed off on this nonsense of a finale. The ludicrousness of the final boss really stands out, when every other boss dies in a minute or two. Torchlight 2 was more consistent when it came to bosses.

Loot. Now I know it's difficult to expect good loot. There is the almighty RNG, and I've never been very lucky. Nevertheless, there is a rhyme and reason to how this system should work, and players should feel like their time is rewarded, especially when they defeat bosses or discover secret rooms. Instead, you're just as likely to get a weapon that's usable for half the game as you are to not find any decent armor upgrades for 3/4s of the game. AGAIN, Torchlight II is more consistent.

Torchlight II also has better quest-design, exploration, map-design, classes, skills, monster-variety, and so on and so forth. It's practically a revelation by comparison.

Now I could download a couple mods to fix the Dark Zealot's insane lightning, or drop Ordrak's HP to something manageable, or improve the myriad of other things that need improving, but that's not my idea of a fun time. Mods are at their best when they add to a game, not just fix its problems. Besides, I already own the sequel. At this point, there really isn't an excuse not to. Torchlight II enjoys sizable discounts during all of the major Steam sales.

On the bright side, when I review Torchlight II (eventually); I won't have to spend the entirety of it discussing why it's a better game than the prequel.

That kind of game that keeps you from pretty much having a life. "One more floor and I'll go make dinner"- you think.. 5 hours later: "Ok, that's IT! This is the last floor and then I'm hitting the bed!" Spoiler: It will never happen, you will never stop, Runic Games knows how to get ahold of your soul.. Nobody should be keener for fast runs with this one!

Still loving the game, despite my lack of sleep. The classes aren't many but the characters adapt as you level up and allocate points. You get your very cute little pet, too. Despite starting with Torchlight II and only now buying Torchlight I, I'd say it's as addictive and awesome.

TL,DR -> Go grab this awesome game!

You like Diablo II? This is the game for you. It lacks Diablo charm and aesthetic, but the mechanics are pratically the same.
Even if multiplayer is absent, the game is really good, and every Diablo fan should have it.
