Windowed mode

Corgi Warlock will now start in a resize-able windowed mode. You can press F on the keyboard to switch to full screen mode. This should help players with multiple monitor setups and allow them to move the window to another screen, which wasn't working in the previous build. If you need to switch back from full screen to windowed again, you have to restart the game. That's obviously not ideal, but it was the only way I could get it to work. Let me know if there are any issues, and thanks for playing my little game.

“Each stage is filled with all sorts of creative enemies, but the best part by far are the huge bosses you and your team will defeat. Screen-sized rock monsters, vampires, dragons, and more. Corgi Warlock never fails to surprise you with its variety of bad guys.”
Co-Optimus

“The animations in the game are great. The combination of colorful graphics and precision-based platforming and combat is a nice throwback to the old-school of gaming like Ghost & Goblins and Ghostbusters, where timing and reflexes are essential for making it through the levels. Read more at http://blogjob.com/oneangrygamer/2015/12/corgi-warlock-delightfully-playful-platformer-available-on-steam/#iBHr0AXfg501y70D.99”
One Angry Gamer

“Artistically the game really stands out. It is very cartoony, with each character having a lot of little quirks and details (I am particularly enamoured with the goblin mages branch arms, and the cute baby-like Cyclops), and the animations are very smooth and well produced. The game has a very vast and varied cast of characters, which could appear quite jumbled when appearing together, and yet stylistically all fit beautifully.”

About This Game

Maia, the great Corgi Warlock, sets out on a quest to defeat the EVIL BUNNY KING and his army of undead minions. Based on a true story*, follow the exploits of Maia as she battles nefarious creatures of the BUNNY ARMY with her magic. Just a couple of the dangerous foes Maia will face include Narwhals throwing their horns (Warning: Narwhal horns are quite stabby.), Sheep with Torches (Warning: Sheep are flammable. Don't try this at home.), Salamander Rogues (Warning: All Salamanders are rogues.), and 67 other adorable yet deadly enemies.

If Maia can't do it alone, she can team up with her pals The Prophet Pig-J (Origin: The Sties of the Undershire) , The Magic Pug (Origin: Unknown), and the Fish Mage (Origin: The Ocean). With their powers combined not even the dreaded Bunny King himself will stand in their path... Or so they hope.

CORGI WARLOCK also features a 1-4 player vs. Battle Mode, for when you need to determine who does the dishes or if a Pug really is better than a Corgi.

About the creator:
Xander's Corgi Arcade is a one man shop, started by a former PIXAR, Dreamworks, and Sony animator, who decided to take a break and work on his own games for a while. His super amazing corgi, Maia, was the inspiration for it.

For a 3 dollar game, this is actually pretty fun. The art design is really cute and it feels good to plow through waves of enemies. But it sould have been about 3 worlds shorter. As you get towards the end of the game it might end up feeling tedious because there are so many bullet sponge enemies that take way too long to kill. If each of these types of enemies had maybe half as much health (including the bosses) then this game would be fairly solid for me. But each of these enemy types (especially the bosses) just take way too long to kill. The biggest reason I die is because there's just too much crap on the screen for me to dodge and I've already wasted all of my shield and healing and simply can't dodge enough to survive the encounter.

But I would still recommend this game. Like I said, for 3 dollars this is a great game. It's not fantastic and has a lot of room for improvement. But it's very pleasing to look at and honestly I love just firing giant flaming corgis at enemies.

At the time of writing this review I've only played the game for 16 minutes.

If someone told me that this game had been made as part of a school project and was made in 1 afternoon by a 12yr old who already had the assets laying around from another project I wouldn't be at all suprised. As soon as you start the game your hit by how simplistic it isi, the low number of animation frames, and the almost slap dash way the levels seem to be thrown together.

The past 16 minuted have still been a ton of fun though. For what they're asking for this title (79p on sale) I can't help but say to give it a go and if your tastes are a little more refined that mine then it's hardly the bigest gamble in the world.

Go on, treat yourself turn of your brain and burn some bad guys.

I'm amazed i liked this game nearly as much as i did, i guess in a way i even felt somewhat apologetic for even getting the freaking thing, considering it's a very barebones single player game, an indie game, but it has so much character, plus it reminds me to the type of games that i used to play when i was a kid.

Either way, it's a great game, very cheap, very rusty, altho i think that's part of the charm of it, and very easy, so if you like really challenging games you're probably not gonna like this one, you got like five different ways to get health, but very nice, very nice game, for it's price.

Ok, I picked up this game for one reason and one reason only, Corgis. The game handles pretty well and isnt super difficult. Basically if you are thinking of buying this game, let me describe what you are buying.

It feels like one of the mini games you played for hours for some extra money in the arcade section of the browser based MMO, (Toon town or Wizard101), you played as a kid. Its simple and addicting. The only downside is that it is only Split Screen Co-op, if online was added, this would be an amazing game to play with friends you cant get together.

Simply put, If you have extra cash, buy this game.

I've spent several hours playing Corgi Warlock, and overall, I have to say that I'm impressed with the game. It's a side-scrolling action platformer with monsters to kill, loot to collect, and upgrades to attain.

The graphics and soundtrack are good, and the controller mechanics are both consistent and responsive. I enjoy gaming with a controller, and nothing disappoints me more than a game that advertises full controller support but doesn't deliver. Corgi Warlock delivers.

There are 10 levels to the game, and so far, I've made it to level 7. What I thought at first was a casual gaming experience is actually really quite challenging. The layout of the levels isn't where the challenge comes in, it's the progression of monsters with varying degrees of health coming across the screen at a steadily increasing pace.

The additon of obstacles such as platforms over water, jumping sharks, and fireballs flying across the screen add unpredictability and the need for quick response time to the mix. As the levels progress, response time gets shorter and shorter while the difficulty increases, meaning that even the most hardcore gamers will find a challenge during the latter portions of the game.

I did experience a few oddities that I want to point out. The first is that killing a coin-dropping monster with a tower in the background results in coins getting stuck in mid-air on the screen. This can be re-created most easily in level 6 or any level where there are step-like platforms leading up to a higher level. The bottom level ends at a gray tower, meaning that you can't advance any further to the right. However, the monsters are coming from the right side of the screen, as well as the left, so if you stand right at the end of the bottom level and shoot, or jump up on a right-side platform and shoot, coins will regularly drop and fly up into the tower, getting stuck on the screen where your character cannot go.

This brings me to the second oddity, which is that the Steam Overlay doesn't seem to work with this game, and neither does the F12 button for taking screenshots. I wanted to take a screenshot of these trapped coins to publish, but I couldn't figure out how to do this. Neither F12 or the Print Screen button worked for me, and I was unable to use Alt-Tab and snip tool to clip a JPG. Anyone determined to get a screenshot would likely have to clip a frame out of a video streaming session.

Other than those couple of things, which really didn't reduce my enjoyment of the game, overall, I didn't experience anything that would cause me not to recommend the game. It's appropriate for young and casual gamers as well as experienced gamers looking for a challenge.

Nice animations for the most part though the quality seems to vary a lot between characters and backround objects. But it seems to be missing a lot of those little things that make a videogame whole. Fireballs just kindof appear out of the end of a tiny spear, for example. When you pick up coins they just disappear instantly rather than some kind of sparkle. THings like that. But I could overlook those things if the gameplay wasn't so basic. Maybe it's more fun on co-op but I didn't really enjoy it.

Summary:
A game to play with your kids if you want a co-op experience, although there's a question of difficulty at times. The gameplay is repetitive, but the controls and actual gameplay itself isn't that bad and has some good design elements to it. It had some good balance of the skills and cooldowns against the different enemy types, and when it decided to change things up in enemy types, it does lead to some good challenge. It's definitely on the more casual side of the market however, and the game shows some lack of experience in the game design element.

Again, it's hard, the game is definitely got a niche audience from its combination of its artwork and it's goofy nature. If you're looking for a hardcore challenge, it's not here in the gameplay area. If you're looking for a nice walk in the park, this game can deliver in that area. It's simple, but still enjoyable to some extent. Its not going to set the world on fire.

Gameplay Footage and Video Review: https://youtu.be/C8MvjqOyaJo/b]

Lists:
+:
  • Great artwork. You can tell that the artist has worked on Pixar and high quality things before: the artwork sells the game frankly. While there's not a lot of “unique” animations, the artwork is sharp, the design is great.
  • To the artwork portion, despite the resolutions not being selectable, it seems to scale well surprisingly to the screen. I was a bit surprised by that.
  • The cooldown on skills is balanced for what the game is going for.
  • Controls work perfectly fine on both the controller and the keyboard. Jumps can feel a tiny bit floaty at times, but it's consistent and the amount of jumps you have to make with precision isn't that high up there.

-:
  • Too stretched out. Variety of combat is a bit of a problem, and it shows especially in the boss fights. The content is definitely stretched out over it's run time.
  • Anybody looking for complicated mechanics will need to look elsewhere. The game is simple at its very core.
  • A lack of options. Actually, there isn't any options at all. I mean, I expect very very basic things at this point, like sound sliders, to make the experience at least adjustable.
  • Sometimes the background and foreground is hard to tell the difference on, and you go and jump to your death.
  • Could have done a better job of involving the “story” into the gameplay/world.
  • The game starts very easy. Has a weird difficulty curve. Does bring the challenge later on.

I absolutely love this game!

The controlls are simple, yet everything going on around you keeps you on your toes! ...or paws?
The music is nice and light, art is pleasing and quirky, and story is rather goofy, yet enough to keep you wanting to finish the game.

I haven't beat it yet myself, but so far I love the change of pace after each chapter. The game stays fresh with the introduction of new monsters constantly and it doesn't get stale. The cooldowns are very fair, but I'd probably increase the heal cooldown a little more. I need to try out the battle mode still, alas I need friends first.

Overall cute game and fun to play. 8/10, great job!
P.S. I HATE THOSE BATS! =P

Corgi Warlock is a side scrolling game where you play as Maia, a Corgi Warlock destined to stop the evil Skeleton Bunny King.

Corgi Warlock [Pt.1]

PROS:
Artwork is great, each character has unique details.
Music is calming and heroic (Except before the boss battle, that music toughens you up)
You play as a dog, specifically a Corgi named Maia.
It is playable with the choice of Keyboard or Controller.
You can play with your friends (Up to 3 friends)
Simple and addictive.
The story is straightforward and quick to get into.

CONS:
A tad bit repetitive.
Corgi Coins might be useless later on the game
Limited on what you can buy from the Merchant (I want to buy ur applez)

OVERALL:
A fun little game to play with your friends. No need to get so into the story, just shoot and kill. Characters
and animations are well made as well as the music. If you don't like repetitive games, then I don't recommend this for you. If you don't mind, try the game or watch videos to see if they suit you.

I really wanted to love you, Corgi Warlock. I like goofy games with flash art that looks like it was drawn by someone who played a ton of games from The Behemoth. Even when a game lacks overall polish but has a lot of heart I’m often ready to defend its merits to anyone who wants to point out its shortcomings. Sadly I don’t think our romance was meant to be.

Corgi Warlock’s gameplay is a variation of the standard side-scrolling brawler, except unlike many of these games with horizontal and limited depth movement field, Corgi Warlock’s enemies all attack in a single-file line. Because of this, the player has only the option of jumping from the ground to have any variation in position. The game is designed to support play for up to four players, though this is local multiplayer only as of the time of this article’s publication.

The player will fight wave, after wave, after wave of identical mooks, and then possibly more waves of functionally identical but reskinned mooks after that. Once you have survived these waves you will fight a mini-boss, which is generally a larger mook with a health bar to tell you that you’ll have to hit them more than just once to get the job done. Don’t worry, most of the mini bosses stand stock-still and assault you with no more than three variations of their attack, in a cycle, forever. Should you survive the mini-bosses you’ll probably kill a flying enemy or two that have been tossed in for fun, and by fun I mean totally randomly for no discernible reason before running into an open doorway at the end of the level that automatically teleports you away once you’re over it, ending the level.

Each section of the game is broken into multiple sub-levels leading up to the final confrontation with the Level Boss. Between the sub-levels, the magical transport doors will take you to a town where the NPCs will shout dialog at you as you pass that doesn’t really affect the game at all. There is also a store, which is a fancy way of saying that text floats above orbs you can grab if you’ve murdered enough mooks to get gold, which you have, because otherwise you’d have died because you can’t avoid combat. Neat, right?

At the very end you’ll battle the Level Boss, which you can tell is happening because you’ll door-port into a room with a big sprite that attempts to murder you. Just a little though, all the bosses in Corgi Warlock are unable to move, and like the mini-bosses, limited to the same three-variation attack cycle. This makes defeating them more of an exercise in timing and pattern recognition than it is a challenge.

Overall, Corgi Warlock suffers from some serious limitations because of the way it was designed. According to the developer’s blog the game was created in Construct 2, which is a game creation engine that allows code-free game building. As with most ready-made engines, you have to work around the limits imposed by the simple options if you want any hope of having a game that isn’t brought down by them, and Corgi Warlock just isn’t up to the task.

For a game from a single person, and what seems to be a freshman effort, I think it could have been a lot worse, but I don’t think it was ready to be on Steam Greenlight. This feels like it would have fit right into the throngs of free flash games on sites like Newgrounds in the mid-2000s, where its lack of polish and variation would have been so much more forgivable.

This game is truly a hidden gem among indie games! I love finding indie games that stand out from the crowd and this one certainly does that.

In all honesty, I have only been playing the single player campaign all by myself and have not had a chance to play local campaign or multiplayer but if it plays as good as single player, then this game is a HIT!

10/10 would corgi again.
