About This Game

Four humans have been put to test by the Gods of the Ancient Greece, they shall face the minotaurs in the labyrinth. To survive, the must show their wisdom and solve the traps inside the labyrinth, all while avoiding the minotaurs. Their goal is to reach the last room, where the exit will be shown and they can finally be free.

Inspired by the classic MS-DOS game “The Beast”, we have created a game with new graphics and game modes. Playing The Minotaur you will feel the nostalgia for those old school games where your only goal was to get as far as possible or the highest score. The game also has full gamepad compatibility, so do not worry if you don’t like playing on keyboard ;)

The Minotaur also includes several game modes:

Arcade:
It’s the classic mode, where the player has to fight his way through 30 levels with increasing difficulty, including different minotaurs, minotaur eggs, etc.

Time Attack:
Similar to Arcade, the player needs to finish the level all 30 levels in a certain amount of time. Killing the minotaurs or their eggs will grant extra time.

Endless:
If you think you beat the game, try this mode with the endless levels. Really, this mode never end!

One Life
You are the untouchable human? Demonstrate that with this mode where you die by one hit.

Local Co-op:
If you have trouble defeating the beasts, ask a friend for help! Or a family member, or maybe even your dog can help you. Up to four players, so the more the merrier.

Local VS
This game mode allows the players to fight against themselves. Great for challenging your friends and competing to be the very best, or simply relax by killing your acquaintances.

Trials:
Players will need to find their ways through a series of hand-made levels. Some of them might even have only four blocks to kill the minotaurs (ง︡'-'︠)ง.

Level Editor:
Tired of playing the classic levels? Bored by the challenges? No problem, you will be able to create your own level maps.

Listen.. It has the rare representation of mythological nature's greatest creatures.. The magestic, beautiful Minotaur. If that means anything to you, buy it. If it doesn't, buy it. We need to perpetuate the rise of the Minotaur in game media as a whole. Come forth brothers! We can create a world we would like to live in!

A decent at best puzzle game that gets repetitive pretty quickly. Things move too quick to strategize much and the random spawn position can sometimes get you killed.

Decent style but the game is just too basic to really be much fun for long. I dont own any gamepads so I wasn't able to check out the multiplayer mode

The Minotaur is a small puzzle-solving coffee break game, with the added bonus of local couch play. While there are a few different modes such as endless and time-attack, the fairly simple puzzle solving mechanic does not change drastically throughout. Essentially, you push blocks in order to 'squish' or 'entrap' minotaurs. The minotaurs have a few variants, but could definately use more.

Pros:
+Music and artwork is very nice
+Navigating the menus in-game with the character always works out well IMO
+While the modes do not differ greatly, they give options
+Multiplayer works great, with solid controller support

Cons:
-As I am playing this, I often wonder if it would have been better off being strictly turn-based (ie. I move 1 turn, and then the minotaurs get 1 turn, repeat). As it stands, the minotaurs move in real-time, which leaves me thinking less and making hasty moves. Would more strategy be good here?
-The base mechanic is fine, but definately not enough to get me addicted. Its been done one-too-many times before.
-Powerups scattered on the board would surely add entertainment value. Having players scramble for things that make the game easier or harder would be great.
-Surely something that could be fixed - sometimes you spawn with an enemy literally right next to you and its insta-death. No big deal, since death doesn't mean much, but this should be fixed.
-I find trying to achieve a certain score to be fairly boring and meaningless. Maybe give me meta-game unlocks? How about character color/skin customization?

Look, this is not a fail by any means. I mean this is a great start for this developement team. As I always ask: would I recommend it to my friends to run out and spend their hard-earned money? No. I'd keep this developement team on my radar, because there is real potential - and they have shown that they can deliver a final, stable, product. Best of luck to them with this, and future work.

A very simple premise that was fun for awhile but got old really quickly. Maybe it's better on coop mode but with 1 person it's kinda like playing bomberman with one person. In other words not fun. Didn't try the level editor but I'm not expecting a ton of community output. Music is nice in a retro way.
