'Midsummer Night' is a beautiful, little indie gem.
It tells an interesting tale (probably based on Russian folklore),
features great pixel art, a decent soundtrack and plays with your emotions.
It ranges from eery, dark and gloomy to heartwarming and touching.
Taking around 2 hours to complete, achievements suggest that there is way more
to do and explore than I actually did during the 1st playthrough,
so there definitely is some replay value here.
I absolutely enjoyed playing 'Midsummer Night' and was sucked in by it's charm immediately.
If you like pixel graphics and nice story-telling, this game is for you!

I purchased this game on a whim, I had enough in my steam wallet and I thought why not.

Upon starting this game, I fell in love. The lore is so enthralling despite how vague it is. Though I usually hate when media breaks the fourth wall, I found the way in which this game did it quite charming. I struggled figuring out some of the puzzles, but its not because they were overly hard, I was just missing the obvious. There were 2 points where I really didn't understand what it was I was doing wrong, but I was about to figure it out eventually on my own.

I actually played this game as a live stream, and am uploading to youtube.

There's still so much for me to do and the adventures Klim finds himself on are so random and strange. I felt this game emotionally, at some points I was creeped out, some points heartbroken. And I have yet to finish the game! No spoilers, if you play you'll see these emotional points for yourself.

In my opinion, this game is well worth the $5 I spent on it (and yes, I did pay for it), and am hoping to do a full video review once I finish streaming this game.

This game is so beautiful, I can't believe it; true pixel-art in every way.
At first I was a little bit afraid it would be like some rpgmaker game, but it wasn't.
The game is fair, has nice little puzzle and one of the most amazing stories, I experienced in gaming for a long time.
It's all about nature!
I don't want to spoiler anything, I've played it through after about 2 hours; if it costed three times its price, it would haven been worth it, nonetheless. Now I feel happy and relaxed, it gave me a good feeling and some things to think about; perfect!

Midsummer Night tells a tale about two siblings and what happened to them during one specific midsummer night a long time ago, in a setting that reminds ancient Russia with some elements of Russian folklore.

Game itself is a pixelated top-down adventure game where you control main character, brother Klim and lead him through dense forests and other suitably atmospheric places collecting items, encountering some interesting characters and solving some puzzles and mini games along the way.

First of all, there is no in-game graphic or resolution options. You can switch between full screen and windowed mode with Alt + Enter and you can change colour saturation with PageUp and PageDown buttons, but that's pretty much it. You can also toggle sound on and off in-game menu but there is no way to adjust sound level.

There is no speech in-game, only text and the writing is in general very good, albeit in places a little bit rough around the edges. But overall writing fits with the narrative and although there is some fourth wall breaking in Klim's monologue and couple of intentional anachronisms, story and characters take themselves serious enough.

As mentioned before, you take the role of the brother and lead him through the game world. This happens either by WASD, arrow keys or numpad. Movement is responsive and fast enough for the purposes of the game. The world of Midsummer Night is linear with limited chances (or need) for backtracking although there is some choices you can make in certain points of the game.

Game itself is sadly rather short: According to Steam I have played about 5 hours and in that time I managed to complete it once. 5 hours mainly because I wanted to take my time, read dialogues and enjoy the atmosphere and partly because I was stuck with a certain puzzle over an hour, because I'm an idiot... What, there is an in-game hint system, no no, who needs that, ha ha! Not me (in all honesty, in that point I had forgotten that the whole hint system even existed)! Relative shortness of course makes it easier to play the game again and try different choices.

All in all I do recommend Midummer Night to all who are interested in touching and beautiful fairytales, Russian folklore and adventure games with some replay value.

Midsummer Night is unlike any game I have played before. The way the story is told and the unique playstyle offers hours of fun. Right off the bat you find yourself thinking through challenging but fun puzzles and figuring out every path you can take. One of the best pixel-art games out there.

Pros:
Amazing artwork and gameplay
Excellent and fun story
Music and sounds are very well done
Controls are easy to use
Smooth transitions
No bugs
Great replayability
Challenging puzzles that make you think

Cons:
No way to adjust sound, just to turn it all off
Some graphical errors

Overall, Midsummer Night is a phenomenal game. The storyline really keeps you interested with the game going on around you. The way the story is told is very interesting and quite a good concept. The sounds and the music really add to the immersion and makes Midsummer Night feel like one of the best, award winning adventure games out there. The puzzles are actually quite challenging and keep you on your feet on what you can do to get to the next path or escape an enemy. Any fans of puzzle, adventure, great looking, pixel-art games should definitely take part in downloading Midsummer Night. I would give this game a 9/10 for its amazing art, story, music, adventure, and challenges. This game is so well done and out together that I could keep playing all day.
