About the Game

Serious Sam 3: BFE is a first-person action shooter, a glorious throwback to the golden age of first-person shooters where men were men, cover was for amateurs and pulling the trigger made things go boom.
Serving as a prequel to the original indie and Game of the Year sensation, Serious Sam: The First Encounter, Serious Sam 3 takes place during the Earth’s final struggle against Mental’s invading legions of beasts and mercenaries. Set against the collapsing temples of an ancient civilization and the crumbling cities of 22nd century Egypt, Serious Sam 3 is an exhilarating fusion of classic twitch shooters and modern gameplay features.
NO COVER. ALL MAN.

Key Features

  • Frantic Arcade-Style Action – Hold down the trigger and lay waste to a never-ending onslaught of attackers or face being overrun by Mental’s savage beasts. No cover systems, no camping – it’s just you against them. All of them!
  • Fearsome Enemy Creatures – A new battalion of unforgettable minions including the rumbling Scrapjack and towering Khnum join the legendary Headless Kamikaze, Gnaar and Sirian Werebull to create the fiercest opposition you’ve ever had the pleasure of mowing down!
  • Spectacular Environments – Battle across the expansive battlefields of near-future Egypt bursting at the seams with total chaos. The shattered cities of tomorrow lined with the crumbling temples of an ancient world become your destructible playground!
  • Destructive Arsenal – Unleash Serious Sam’s arsenal of weapons including a scoped assault rifle, the double-barreled shotgun, the explosive automatic shotgun, the punishing minigun, and the almighty barrage of flaming cannonballs! Carry all of Sam’s weapons at once and switch between each gun on the fly for maximum firepower!
  • Brutal Melee Attacks – When the going get’s tough, the tough take matters into their own hands! Rip out the eye of a closing Gnaar, twist off the face of the hideous Scrapjack or snap the neck of an Arachnoid Hatchling for an instant kill!
  • Co-Op Multiplayer – Go to war against Mental’s horde with up to 16 players online and annihilate everything that moves across 12 single-player levels of mayhem in Standard Co-Op, Classic Co-Op, Coin-Op Co-Op, Beast Hunt and Team Beast Hunt mode.

Genre - FPS (nothing more, nothing less)
Shoot Stuff, do a bit of jumping/collecting and shoot some some more stuff. This game is a straight up FPS in the style of Doom with supported local and network co-op. There are one liners and the creatures you fight add there own dark humour. You can play in short bursts and I haven't found it too frustrating as yet. Although if you don't play in co-op you will not enjoy the game half as much. Please bear in mind that the randoms who play online will probably vote to skip the story cut-scenes, as has happened to me on my first playthrough.

Croteam is back with yet another Serious Sam title and to be honest I am beginning to care less and less for them with each incremental number that gets added. This title is supposed to act as a prequel to the original Serious Sam remade in all its choppy HD glory a little while back. Yes - the alien invaders still want to annihilate earths human citizens and yes it's up to Sam and friends (if playing in co-op as I believe up to 16 people can join in on the action) to stop them.

Serious Sam 3 does little, very little, to distinguish itself from the other titles in the series and it honestly feels a bit like a cut and paste job with an engine that now supports Direct x11. The feeling of deja vu sets in early with this one since there is hardly anything you haven't already seen in the previous titles. A better enemy variety would have been a welcome change but little is tinkered with here so it's waves upon waves of the same respawning enemies from the 1 and 2 episodes with only one or two new additions.

I could never imagine playing this title alone and thankfully I had a friend with me to co-op right through to the end although we never really got to see the end because the game allowed us to pass through to the final boss without picking up a weapon from the previous stage that is required to kill him. Thanks Croteam! Who the hell play-tested your game? That just killed it for us as we promptly both deleted all local content from our drives and packed SS3:BFE away for good.

Although I am sounding very negative about the game I still had fun with it in bursts. The gameplay is still incredibly fast and furious and the Direct x11 enhanced graphics do look rather awesome on a system that can beef up the game in the settings department - but - and its a very big BUT - Croteam are going to have to energize the next chapter should there be one because even for an old school off-the-rails shooter like this one things are starting to feel a little more than stale and tired.

The Serious Sam series is some of my favorite FPS games I have ever played. I played the first 2 when they came out and thought "why don't more FPS games do this?" Sending hundreds of enemies at you is extremely exhilarating. I never seen any other game do this like the Serious Sam games. You feel amazing as you try to dodge hundreds of enemies and their projectiles all at the same time.

I always thought The Second Encounter was the best in the series, until I played this one. It feels a lot more modern and I love how the enemies look when they explode into bits and pieces. They got rid of the annoying trap rooms from TSE (I always thought they were badly designed) and upgraded the level design. The physics engine makes the majority of the levels have breakable walls. This creates some awesome gunfights, when you have tons of enemies blasting things at you and walls are breaking all around you while you try and shoot back at them.

The Serious Sam series is also known for their final levels and just how brutal and awesome they can be. Over 1,000 enemies coming at you? Check. Nearly 2 hour level? Check. Huge boss fight at the end of the level? Check. Seriously difficult? Double check. I think this game has the best final level in the series. The music and enemy formations, just made everything seem so perfect. Good luck ever beating the level on Serious difficulty.

This game will last you around 15 hours on Normal difficulty. There are other game modes you can play and the real strength of the game comes from playing the Campaign on Serious difficulty. Every FPS fan needs to try this game.

SINCERE SAMUEL'S THIRD MAIN INSTALLMENT IN THE CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED "Serious Sam™" SERIES PROVES TO BE ONE OF THE BEST FIRST PERSON SHOOTER EXPERIENCES AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE THROUGH THE STEAM CLIENT.

IT IS NOT WORTH PLAYING THIS GAME UNLESS YOUR PERSONAL COMPUTER IS CAPABLE OF THE HIGHEST GRAPHICAL SETTINGS AND CAN REACH TWO HUNDRED AND FOURTY FRAMES PER SECOND.

TO PLAY THIS GAME AIM AT ENEMY NON-PLAYABLE CHARACTER'S FACES AND PRESS THE LEFT MOUSE BUTTON. SOMETIMES THE ENEMY NON-PLAYABLE CHARACTER WILL HAVE A LARGE ENOUGH HEALTH POINT POOL TO REQUIRE "KITING" THEM AROUND THE LEVEL FOR A MOMENT, THIS IS NORMAL. SOMETIMES THERE WILL BE LARGE OPEN AREAS WITH LITTLE TO NO COVER WHILE THE GAME SPAWNS FIFTY PLUS ENEMY NON-PLAYABLE CHARACTERS, THIS IS ALSO NORMAL. DO NOT WORRY THOUGH, YOU HAVE A COMPUTER MOUSE TO CLICK ON ENEMY FACES WITH.

IF I HAD TO RATE THIS GAME ON AN ARBITRARY NUMERICAL SCALE IT WOULD HAVE TO BE A FOURTY FOUR
IF I HAD TO RATE THIS GAME USING A LETTER FROM A LATIN BASED ALPHABET IT WOULD HAVE TO BE H
IF I HAD TO RATE THIS GAME WITH AN ASSORTMENT OF CELESTIAL ENTITIES THEY WOULD BE STARS

BEFORE PURCHASING THIS GAME CONSIDER HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE ON YOUR FRIENDS LIST, TAKE THAT NUMBER AND ADD ONE, THEN BUY THAT MANY COPIES OF
Serious Sam™ 3.

Do you enjoy military shooters?

Do you enjoy having no health and standing in cover to heal up?

Do you enjoy running around, knifing people on the arm to kill them instantly?

Do you enjoy 360 no-scoping people with snipers?

If you answered yes to any of these, dump your head into the nearest urinal and go buy this game because IT'S NOTHING LIKE THAT
