About This Game

Super Meat Boy is a tough as nails platformer where you play as an animated cube of meat who's trying to save his girlfriend (who happens to be made of bandages) from an evil fetus in a jar wearing a tux.

Our meaty hero will leap from walls, over seas of buzz saws, through crumbling caves and pools of old needles. Sacrificing his own well being to save his damsel in distress. Super Meat Boy brings the old school difficulty of classic NES titles like Mega Man 2, Ghost and Goblins and Super Mario Bros. 2 (The Japanese one) and stream lines them down to the essential no BS straight forward twitch reflex platforming.

Ramping up in difficulty from hard to soul crushing SMB will drag Meat boy though haunted hospitals, salt factories and even hell itself. And if 300+ single player levels weren't enough SMB also throws in epic boss fights, a level editor and tons of unlock able secrets, warp zones and hidden characters.
  • Story mode, featuring over 300 levels spanning 5+ chapters
  • Play as a Head Crab! (Steam Exclusive)
  • 33 legitimate Achievements
  • Warp zones that will warp you into other games
  • Over 16 unlockable able and playable characters from popular indie titles such as, Minecraft, Bit.Trip, VVVVVV and Machinarium
  • Epic Boss fights
  • Full Level Editor and Level Portal (January 2011)
  • A story so moving you will cry yourself to sleep for the rest of your life

(Just an FYI that I spent a lot of time with this on the 360 before purchasing this version) This is the hardest platformer that I have ever played that is challenging yet fair. Every death was a result of me making careless mistakes. In my opinion, this is the best game that Edmund McMillen ever made.

Super Meat Boy is a game about a cube of bloody flesh that's on a mission to reunite with his lady love; a girl made from bandages. Just like with the best of 2D mascot platformers of the 80's and 90's, below this simple premise lies a wealth of gameplay potential. Super Meat Boy takes the very best aspects of the genre and concentrates them into a focused blast of pure, unadulterated run-and-jump bliss. All of the now useless leftovers from the arcade era and stale tropes of console days past have been cut. What's left is a game that feels like a "best of" mix of classic platformers, while remaining 100% fresh. [9/10] - Sky

Super meat boy is a fast paced platformer that should not be ignored, this game is extremely fun and is one of my favourite indie games of all time. Whilst it's very fun it's also harder than a necrophilliac in a graveyard, this game can make you ♥♥♥♥♥♥ at a level but also make you happy as ♥♥♥♥ when you beat it. It also makes you care way too much about bandages.
Atleast give it a go if you're looking for a challenge. 8/10

Summary
Polished brilliant Indie game....... but has an edge of frustration that could be too much for some people (... including me!).

Gameplay
Super MeatBoy is a modern day quality platformer, it is incredibly hard to master the game but other than being a little frustrated along the way you will be enjoying every minute of trying to rescue Bandage Girl.

This is the kind of game that you will need to play in short spurts as playing for hours on end will probably age you a few years if not breaking fragile items that are placed around by your play area.

Basically, each level you need to reach his girlfriend (Bandage Girl) as quickly as possible without dying by avoiding enemies and traps. All of the levels take place in varied locations such as Caves, Volcanoes etc to bring a varied reply factor to the game and the game progress's at a nice pace to a climatic battle at the end with Dr Featus.

Graphics/Music
The graphics are extremely polished for an Indie title and look great in 1080p, each world has its own distinct art style that plays through perfectly in the game world.
The Music and Sounds are nice, as you will (almost guaranteed) be repeating some levels over and over and over.... you need to have a soundtrack that doesn't get annoying fast and I'm pleased to say that Super MeatBoy's soundtrack is good and is easy to listen to for an extended period of time.

Pros/Cons

Pros
+ Graphics/Music and Sound are great for an Indie title
+ Frustrating yet addicting in the same sentence, it has that positive 'just one more try' mentality to it.
+ Great little story cutscenes before attempting each level/hub.

Cons
- Very tough to master, starts off 'easier' not easy and ramps the difficulty up.
- Not really a 'casual' game in the respect of the hard difficulty.

Final/Personal Thoughts
I personally didn't pick up Super MeatBoy at launch and waited a while for it to appear in the great Steam Sales, overall I would not have been disappointed if I would have picked this up at full price early on as it is a title that is definitely worth it. The amount of content that is in included is fantastic and worth the effort. Patience, please!
If you do spot this in the sale with a discount please do not glance over it... what are you waiting for.... purchase now if you haven't already!

Tight controls and brutal difficulty, that's Super Meat Boy for ya. It's rare when a game is this difficult and yet doesn't pull any truly dirty tricks. Every death feels like it's your own fault and not the game being cheap. I can recommend this game for anyone who likes platformers.

I'll keep this short. Long reviews are effort to read.

It's a fantastic platformer with a mild sense of humour and some pretty damn tight controls.

Like SUPER tight controls, If you die then it's on you man.

This might actually be the best 2d platformer going in my books, Little touches like the death cam showing every death after you beat a level, Blood covering the enviroment and a dark world for every level which is a harder version.

Basically this games super rad and you should Buy and play it.

And hey, If you fancy seeing some gameplay, I'm doing a let's play so, Here's some shameless self advertisement.

Super Meat Boy:
well I spent barely 2 hours on this game, also a long time ago, and yet I got only 1 thing to say about this game:

This game is like Anal, at the beggining it hurts, but you get used to it.

I can only recommend this game to players who like super hardcore platform games (WHICH AS EVERYONE KNOW, YOU DIE A LOT IN THOSE GAMES) and who can handle their rage because this game will manage to p1ss off even a tai chi guro.
Tho its fun. Got to admit.

Main point(goal) :

1.In the game we control Meat Boy, a red, cube-shaped character, as he attempts to rescue his girlfriend, Bandage Girl, from the game's antagonist Dr. Fetus.

Gameplay:

1.The gameplay is characterized by fine control and split-second timing as the we run and jump through over 300 hazardous levels while avoiding obstacles.

2.Super Meat Boy is an extremely difficult game. Make the slightest mistake and you'll have to restart the stage over from the beginning [there are no checkpoints].
-We can even call to memory that this game was critically acclaimed and In 2010 it received awards for Most Challenging Game.

3. But, actually, you have unlimited tries and most stages take less than a minute to complete once you know what you're doing.

Finally, i simply want to say that you should buy and try this game coz the atmosphere of it brings you back to the times of the immortal Super Mario Bros:D

Fast paced platformer with short but challenging levels. Avoid spikes, pits and other hazards to save the girl.

10/10 controls. 10/10 music. Graphics may not look too fancy, but the artstyle is great. The splash art for warp zones is awesome.

There isn't much to say: Very fun. Very challenging. Very addictive. Great Game.

The main issue that Super Meat Boy has is that of being a precision platformer. There is a big reason peope dislike this genre. It is based more so around performing the exacts precise movement to get to the finish line instead of having various ways or approaches of finishing an obstacle. However, Super Meat Boy triumps this problem by being the best damn precision platformer ever.
-
First, how does SMB overcome the problems that come with a precision platformer? First, the level design is genuinely fun. Other than the couple final (bonus) levels where difficulty goes through the roof, it is built in such a way that before encountering a real obstacle, you get a level to learn the way it works without any big danger or work your way around it and even if you would get stuck, you can pretty much play the levels of an area in any order you want. This is a really good design choice as you may practice on whatever level you want. And if that is still not enough, there is the dark world mechanic (letting you play a harder version of the levels you beat in set time) that lets you practice on harder versions of levels.
-
Next, the unlockables have a big inpact on style of play. Unlike many other games where unlocked characters are there only for novelty value or very slight changes, here almost every character is useful. Whether it is to teach the new player and help him finish levels easier (Commander Video, Headcrab) or to make it possible for players to really break some levels if they know how to play (Flywrench, The Kid), all of these characters have a certain usefulness to them besides being fun. Not only that, but there are also bandages and warp zones. Overall, the game is just packed with content and lets you blaze through it at your own speed without making you rush into impossible challenges.
-
You cannot have a cool precision platformer without cool music and graphics. Super Meat Boy does both excellently. The graphics have a very nice style to them that makes them feel both detailed and simple. It's not a style that is done lazily or retro for the sake of being retro or overcomplicated, instead it does it's job- it makes you see everything you need to and does not distract while being pleasing to the eye. Same with the music, although the soundtrack feels a little bit distracting at places, it sets the tone amazingly.
-
Talking about the positives, the game has a couple problems too, most of them come from a problem of the game being rushed (look that up, long story). The cutscenes, for example, feel half-♥♥♥♥♥. It is not very bothering though since the devs probably realised everyone would just watch them once and it feels good to know they instead spent their time polishing the game. Then there are a few questionable design decisions. I'm not sure why there are hidden warp zones in the game. Nobody will look for them, because these levels are not made to be explored. Everyone will just look up the location and go "oh, that's where it is".
-
Overall, the game has over 200 levels, awesome music and graphics, great level design, many characters, secrets...just as full of content as a platformer can be.
-
The game gets a 9/10 and therefore very recommended.
-
Final notes:
*The game has a level editor and a mode where you can play fan-made levels. If you like this game, this will blow your mind.
*There is a really nice Ultra Edition and Ultra Rare Edition, gettable pretty cheap. I recommend it.

Welcome to suffering. If you really want to do this game, you have to have eyes of steel, because otherwise, they will burn out of your head when you get stuck (I spent over 2 hours on "The Kid's" three levels). But the sense of reward when you finally get something right is really satisfying.
Oh, and get Commander Video.

Recommended if :
- You seek great challenge from your games.
- You enjoy games that test you on your reflexes.
- You want a time sink with tons of content.
- You enjoy games with simple mechanics.

Not Recommended if :
- You don't enjoy being punished.
- Pop culture references bother you to a great extent (there are a few references to memes in the game).
- You don't own a controller.

Super Meat Boy is a pure 2D platformer created by the dynamic duo of Edmund McMillen and Tommy Refenes. It's greatly inspired by the charm and difficulty of games from the 8 bit era of gaming, however, it isn't at all weighed down by the issues prevelant in games of that time. The game is as simple as running and jumping, there are no power ups or alterations of the game's core mechanics. Super Meat Boy relies on it's level design and tight controls to flesh out the game, and where games of the past would have been tedius, SMB values the player's time. Deaths are quick, and respawns are almost instant. Playing through a world in this game may take you hours at first, but after practice, you can blast through levels in mere seconds. It's a game that you can pick up and play for any amount of time and have a good time, but also one that has hours of content behind it, thanks to hundreds of levels and a ton of unlockables. Super Meat Boy truly is a treat for any fan of 2D platformers looking for a challenge.

Vicious. Brutal. Uncompromising. Insane. Challenging.

What do these words all have in common? They are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to describing what Super Meat Boy is all about.

You will scream, die, cry, and maybe throw controllers. You may smash a keyboard. You may even put your fist through your monitor.

But then you will be begging for another. The game delivers another. Lather, rinse, repeat.

This is a game that'll put hair on your chest, drop your voice an octave or two, and toughen you up like nobody's business. Be prepared.
