About This Game

Super Meat Boy is a tough as nails platformer where you play as an animated cube of meat who's trying to save his girlfriend (who happens to be made of bandages) from an evil fetus in a jar wearing a tux.

Our meaty hero will leap from walls, over seas of buzz saws, through crumbling caves and pools of old needles. Sacrificing his own well being to save his damsel in distress. Super Meat Boy brings the old school difficulty of classic NES titles like Mega Man 2, Ghost and Goblins and Super Mario Bros. 2 (The Japanese one) and stream lines them down to the essential no BS straight forward twitch reflex platforming.

Ramping up in difficulty from hard to soul crushing SMB will drag Meat boy though haunted hospitals, salt factories and even hell itself. And if 300+ single player levels weren't enough SMB also throws in epic boss fights, a level editor and tons of unlock able secrets, warp zones and hidden characters.
  • Story mode, featuring over 300 levels spanning 5+ chapters
  • Play as a Head Crab! (Steam Exclusive)
  • 33 legitimate Achievements
  • Warp zones that will warp you into other games
  • Over 16 unlockable able and playable characters from popular indie titles such as, Minecraft, Bit.Trip, VVVVVV and Machinarium
  • Epic Boss fights
  • Full Level Editor and Level Portal (January 2011)
  • A story so moving you will cry yourself to sleep for the rest of your life

Super Meat Boy is a fast paced, very challenging platforming game.

It centers around meat boy who tries to rescue his girlfriend(band-aid girl), from his nemesis Dr. Fetus.

The music is great accompanying the levels, respawns are fast, and the games runs perfectly.

I recommend Super Meat Boy to fans of platformers ON or OFF sale.

No plot spoilers!

This game is a hardcore platformer, complete with all the speed Sonic wishes he had. Your goal is to beat the level, with the option of getting an A ranking by going fast, but unlike The Binding Of Isaac the difficulty makes sense, you either land on the spot or you don't. The only negative in this game, as of the second level, are the fans. They're very confusing and make getting good times or bandages random chance. Otherwise, this is a fun and difficult platforming with secret levels and unlockable characters and a lot of character, it's definitely worth the buy.

One of the best modern platformers, period. It's punishingly difficult without being crushing and tedious. The music is great and the art is fun. It's a must-play.

I knew about the difficulty and popularity of Super Meat Boy before I played. I decided to give it a try, but quickly lost interest from the repetition and frustration.

I’m terrible at games like this, there’s no denying it. I got this in a bundle as I wouldn’t purposely seek out a game like this. There’s a quick story/plot of Dr. Fetus capturing Meat Boy’s love interest Bandage Girl. You must go through increasingly difficult levels and worlds to find her.

I only played through the first world and the mini boss. It was enough for me to get an idea of what Super Meat Boy was about, but I wasn’t going to commit hours upon hours trying to complete one level to move forward.

Pros
+60fps
+Nice level design
+Fun characters

Cons
+Rage inducing difficulty (knew this going in)
+Meat Boy felt unpredictable at times

Don’t get me wrong, I see where the appeal is for this type of game. Some people enjoy them…I’m not one of them. Would I personally recommend this game? No. If you’re curious about it, watch some YouTube videos of it first before buying

Giving this a score wouldn’t be right, since I didn’t play much of the game.

EXCELLENT ALARM CLOCK! Just play for a few minutes and everyone in the house is awake!!

I found its best for me to take it in bursts. Return fresh and just swing right thru a level then get stuck on the next, take a break, and repeat. :D

Super Meat Boy is a hardcore platformer that does everything right. Everything? Well, almost. The game crashes once in a while, and for me the audio crashes almost everytime I play it. The animations are outdated and the gameplay, even though it's mostly solid, can feel slipery sometimes. Also, you can't remap the controls on a keyboard. The game advertises how controllers are better and all. While this might be true for some games, this one has only TWO buttons! It wouldn't be that much of an issue to play with a keyboard if I could change the controls (that are by default shift for running and space for jumping), which is the bare minimum when you release a game on PC (I still beat it with a keyboard, yay me!).

Anyway, I'm a passionate platformer player, and apart from what I mentionned, I found this game highly enjoyable. The level design is amazing. It keeps reinventing itself by using the same components in new ways (something McMillen talked about in Indie Game: The Movie). The difficulty increases at a perfect rate. I thought it would be incredibly hard from the start, or soon enough, but no, it increases perfectly so that a veteran like me don't get bored, but that anyone can progress quite quickly to the third or fourth world.

It's refreshing to have a platformer that challenges me, and it makes it even more rewarding to finish it.
