About This Game

Super Meat Boy is a tough as nails platformer where you play as an animated cube of meat who's trying to save his girlfriend (who happens to be made of bandages) from an evil fetus in a jar wearing a tux.

Our meaty hero will leap from walls, over seas of buzz saws, through crumbling caves and pools of old needles. Sacrificing his own well being to save his damsel in distress. Super Meat Boy brings the old school difficulty of classic NES titles like Mega Man 2, Ghost and Goblins and Super Mario Bros. 2 (The Japanese one) and stream lines them down to the essential no BS straight forward twitch reflex platforming.

Ramping up in difficulty from hard to soul crushing SMB will drag Meat boy though haunted hospitals, salt factories and even hell itself. And if 300+ single player levels weren't enough SMB also throws in epic boss fights, a level editor and tons of unlock able secrets, warp zones and hidden characters.
  • Story mode, featuring over 300 levels spanning 5+ chapters
  • Play as a Head Crab! (Steam Exclusive)
  • 33 legitimate Achievements
  • Warp zones that will warp you into other games
  • Over 16 unlockable able and playable characters from popular indie titles such as, Minecraft, Bit.Trip, VVVVVV and Machinarium
  • Epic Boss fights
  • Full Level Editor and Level Portal (January 2011)
  • A story so moving you will cry yourself to sleep for the rest of your life

A good game though, you can already know how it is by reading to other reviews

try, die, repeat

If you have the patience to do these 3 things you should buy this game.

Super Meat Boy is supposedly a rage inducing game... as someone with potential anger issues i have no qualms with this game, maybe ending up crying in the corner of my room slurping up icecream mixed with my tears while screaming along to Linkin Park - Numb. But never anger. This game is in my opinion a load of fun but very difficult so if you're anything like me, temperamental, before playing this game call some suicide watch service and beat the ♥♥♥♥ out of that chodelike slab of meat (again).

I am conflicted about Super Meat Boy. There is without a doubt that this game, when it comes down to its core concept and mechanics, is stellar, yet the occasional autoscrolling section or seemingly haphazard obstacle completely breaks the immersion of the experience for anyone as irascible as me. Nevertheless, even with my personal qualms with its design, I would be foolish to ignore Super Meat Boy as a vanguard of independent games and its influence on 2D platformers as a whole. 8.0/10.

A very fun, tight and well designed platformer. It has a few minor control issues here and there, and some questionable level design, but overall it's a very solid experience. Would only reccomend for the hardcore players, as casuals may want to avoid this.

despite what people say, this is not a rage game, it's not cheap with it's difficulty, and the first world isn't hard.
for all the complaints i've seen i can tell that they're either not bothering to learn some of the core mechanics, or they just didn't bother to play more than the forest.

i can safely say that if you are expecting a rage game, you won't be disappointed. it may feel like one, but in reality, this is the best a game can get away with an abysmal difficulty without placing hidden ♥♥♥♥ everywhere.

except little horn
he makes this game a 9/10

This game... I never thought I'd care about it when I was told about it. It always gets described as a "rage game".

It is, but it deserves more than that. This game punishes you when you don't execute a jump right and fly off into a saw blade. It doesn't hide information from you like a Mario Maker level or the like.

This game is Mario Bros.: EXTREME Edition. It's hard. It's fantastic. It might get you hard. I don't know. I don't judge.

It's ****ing fantastic. Buy it. I don't care if it's on sale or not. The makers of this gem ****ing deserve it.

P.S.: This game is NOT for those who get turned off from a game because they died 500 times. You will die. A LOT. Be a stubborn fool like me and smash your meaty brains into the wall. It's SO worth it.

I love to see the tears of the ones who try to 100% this game.

Some of it's achievements are even included on the hardest achievements of all time lists, so good lucky with that. Really.

Vegans beware, you're in for a scare. You ever stare at a piece of meat in the supermarket and think to yourself, "Man, wouldn't it be cool if that were alive?".

(...Visit a dairy farm.)

I am certain that at least some decent percent of those reading agree. And who could blame you? When such a thing as Super Meat Boy exists, what is there not to love? Super Meat Boy is a gory platformer with a silent cast of characters except for the main menu announcer you hear once during each playthrough.

There are many practical applications to this game, but before we get into those, let us talk about the game itself. Now the plot is pretty simple, girl made of bandages is kidnapped by evil fetus, very classic tale, but what differs in this game is that there is jumping. Platforming in this game is rage inducing, yet with a great sense of satisfaction. Each and every single death you may suffer at the hands of a circular saw or a pile of salt helps you grow and prosper as a player, (unless you're aiming for those ridiculous no-death achievements, good luck) and as you finally reach the goal of each level, upon completing it, you are serenaded with a symphonic score of your past attempts; you get a recap of all of your previous attempts trying and failing in a replay as one shining victor breaks away from the heap, scoring victory.

The characters, while they do not have any huge dialogue... Pretty much whatsoever, are charming. Sometimes you may not understand what they are doing onscreen at all as a result, and that is fine. Super Meat Boy is in now way a visual novel, it is a platformer that you keep playing on and on. The cast of characters is certainly an interesting thing to begin with, several other video game characters, mainly from indie games, can aid Meat Boy in his quest, such as the ever buddy-buddy Commander Video or a Headcrab from Half-Life, further hammering in the fact that a third Half-Life is nothing but a sad heap of hopes and dreams that nearly everyone, including me, is still desperately clinging on to.

Depressing realities aside, this game is great for a multitude of other reasons aside from the standard gameplay reasons:

-You can apply this to meat butchery in real life!

-Train to escape from those slow saws in spy movies that never work anyways!

-Pretend to paint a firetruck!

The list goes on. Super Meat Boy is, in my opinion, super charming. It is bloody brilliant platforming action. And it is quite literally a meaty game for such a small platformer.
