“The Orion Project is scheduled to be in Early Access for 24 months, from December 2015 to December 2017.”

“The Official Version of The Orion Project will be substantially larger than the Early Access launch version, including but not limited to:

PvP Module
Mech Module
Open Galaxy Module
Social Module
City Module
New Guardians.
New Weapons.
New Abilities.
New Game Modes.
New Features/Mechanics.
New Robots/Drones.
New Creatures.

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Orion Project currently features the Social and Action modules across a variety of game modes. We support a variety of global locations with our new servers, including North America, South America, Asia, Australia, West Europe and soon to be more!”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The game is $1 for life.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“They will be able to help guide the role of future content integration by voting/suggesting what they want to see more of, whether it's Guardians, Creatures, Maps or anything in between.

About This Game

Welcome to The Orion Project! The ultimate video game for PC with gameplay consisting of four main modules, including: Social, Exploration, Adventure and Combat.

The ORION Project is a Sci-Fi Shooter featuring Dinosaurs and Robots and it's focused on Accessibility, Over-The-Top Gameplay, Power Ups, Local & Online Co-Op, Social Hubs, Destruction and more! ORION is the successor to the multi-platinum indie hit: ORION: Prelude.

Welcome to the Galaxy - Endless possibilities await.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mpofbIrizPQ

[ THE LORE ]

The Orion Project takes place half a century from now and allows you to explore The New Solar System. Rich with an unlimited and renewable clean energy source, Ion Crystals generated by the star of Rigel help power your Guardian using the most advanced technology and weaponry ever created.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFopklaUqvg

[ PLAY IT YOUR WAY ]

The only game to feature three unique perspectives, including: Top-Down, First-Person and Third-Person.

[ LOCAL CO-OP ] Now Available

Support for Offline and Local gameplay allowing you to play a variety of game-modes experienced in The Orion Project with 1 to 4 players on the same system. Will feature same-screen and split-screen modules.

[ HARVESTING ION ] Now Available

ION is a crystal formation on the surface of the Orion planet and powered generated from the nearby star of Rigel, these crystals offer unlimited energy. Harvesting ION is a dangerous task. You must escort a hacked Harvesting drone to the desired region on the surface and protect it for the duration of its mission. The longer it stays alive, the more money you make.

The rest of the Drone Protection Army will maintain its standing conservation policy and attack anyone harvesting ION, in addition to any enraged local wildlife.

[ PLAY OR PAY ] Coming 2016

ION is used as the in-game currency. It is typically collected in-game as drops and rewards and can be used to purchase new Weapons via SkyFly Shopping, obtain new crafting ingredients OR converted to the out-of-game currency known as CREDITS which are used in the Trek Store where you can collect new Armors, Weapon Skins, Taunts, Hats and more! This system allows you to PLAY or PAY for new store items with a focus on no pay walls or pay-2-win scenarios.

[ WAVE-BASED ]

Wave after wave, the enemies and Side Missions will continue to increase in difficulty. If you're up to the challenge you can earn Bonus Rewards for completing objectives in a certain amount of time.

[ LEADERBOARDS & STATISTICS ] Now Available

We provide a wide variety (and constantly growing) list of leaderboard statistics that cover a wide variety of gameplay. Survival is all about lasting as long as possible - do you have what it takes to survive?

[ RESOURCES & CRAFTING ] Now Available

In addition to collecting ION you will also find a wide range of resources which you can use to your benefit. These can be pieces of gear that enhance whichever Guardian you equip it to or Crafting Materials to be used as ingredients for recipes.

[ THE DINOSAURS ]

We are going to be constantly adding new dinosaurs to the game. Here are the ones already integrated:

· Compsognathus
· Deinonychus
· Dilophosaurus
· Rhamphorynchus
· Allosaurus
· Ankylosaurus
· Triceratops
· Tyrannosaurus Rex

[ THE CREATURES ]

In addition to the Dinosaurs you will encounter unique alien species and wildlife. Here are the ones already integrated:

· Jeckyl
· Kruger
· Namor

[ PLAYER MANAGEMENT ] Now Available

You are able to access Player Terminals to load up Guardian Inventories to better sort and organize, access the Crafting menu, visit and allocate Skill Trees and see what Daily and Weekly quests are available for you to conquer.

[ GAME MANAGEMENT ] Now Available

You will be able to access the Hologram table to create games as well as load the Server Instance feed to join already-existing games. You can form parties and verify which Achievements still need to be unlocked.

[ VENDORS ] Coming 2016

There are a variety of unique Vendors through the crowds that populate the Shopping District of Nova City. You will be able to purchase Weapons, Gear, Equipment, Clothing, Drugs, Medication, Ships, Residences and more! Or just kick back at a social lounge with some friends and have a drink!

[ TRADING ] Coming 2016

Trading Systems will be added to the game allowing you to trade with other Players and even NPC Characters.

[ MULTIPLE REGIONS ] In Progress

The Open World module taking place on the surface of Orion planet will feature many regions, with more scheduled to be added through development. You can expect many biomes, including Snowlands, Mountains, Islands, Jungles, Deserts, Caves, Swamps, Plains, Canyons and Temples from the Ancients!

[ WEATHER PATTERNS ] In Progress

Each region will feature many unique aspects, including specific weather patterns. You will be able to witness advanced weather systems like Tornadoes, Blizzards, Snowstorms, Rain Storms, Hurricanes and even Volcanic Eruptions!

[ THE WILD LIFE ]

Each region will have specific wild life associated to it. You may encounter certain species only in certain areas. The Island is bustling with wildlife and typically features the most dangerous types. Be careful!

[ HUNT OR BE HUNTED ]

The Island is a very dangerous place. Due to it's density it is not often patrolled by the Drone Army, leaving Guardians to their own wits and devices for self-protection. If you encounter other Guardians on the Island they can attack you with little punishment. Make sure to only travel with high levels of gear or with a squad of friends.

[ PLAYER RESIDENCES ] Coming 2017

The Citadel offers an additional place to socialize and interact with other Players in the game. You can also purchase a Residence allowing you to have more Inventory storage space to benefit your gameplay experience.

[ MEMBERSHIP REWARDS ] Coming 2017

Just like many home buying clubs, Residence owners will receive discounts and rewards throughout the game.

[ MY GUARDIAN ] Coming 2016

The My Guardian module will allow players to create a Guardian from the ground up using whatever gear they have available. You will be able to select from options including: Gender, Ethnicity, Voice Region, Ability, Grenade Type, Armor Style, Armor Colors, Base Mesh colors and even your Weapon Loadout!

[ TREK STORE ] Now Available

The Trek Store features items that can be PLAYED or PAID for, including Armors, Hats, Weapon Skins, Taunts, Pets and more! This allows you to further customize your appearance and stand out from the rest.

[ MULTIPLE CLASSES ] Now Available

We will be featuring Light, Medium and Heavy Mech classes. Each Mech will have access to additional mechanics including Evade maneuvers, Projectiles and Abilities.

[ UNIQUE WEAPONS ]

We have designed a wide variety of Mech-specific weapons, each with their own unique capabilities and role. Different classes of Mech have access to different types of Weapons.

[ YOUR OWN SPACE SHIP! ] Coming 2017

We will be featuring a variety of Space Ships, including some free ones for all users to ensure that they can enjoy the features that Space will hold. Travel to different regions on Orion, venture out to new Planets and Moons or fly directly to locations like Nova City, The Citadel and Orbital Command.

[ MOBILE MANAGEMENT ] Coming 2017

Your personal Spaceship will also act as your very own mobile command, allowing you to manage your inventory, characters and even start up matches/missions.

[ PARTIES 2.0 ]Coming 2017

Squadrons will be an evolved form of Parties, allowing you to travel to and from multiple locations in real time with groups of friends. Play alone or play together with ease.

[ THE FUTURE AWAITS ]

We intend to develop a physical model of The New Solar System, allowing you to freely travel through out the entire system. This has room to grow into a physical mod of the Orion arm to the Milky Way Galaxy and possibly even stretch out to include our Solar System, allowing you to visit planets like Earth and Mars. The Orion Project has endless possibilities and we cannot wait to realize them.

First off, let me tell you, it's not a bad game. The reason I am giving this product a negative review is because it's of the way the developer acts and the things he does.

I am sad I gave David Prassel any of my money.
https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/4q6xo5/activisions_dmca_claim_on_orion_is_legit_orions/
http://www.gatheryourparty.com/2012/05/04/orion-employee-beatdown/

and even all the way back 5 years ago this happened
https://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/g2sol/david_prassel_creator_of_orion_prelude_receives/

Now a couple things I've experienced my self:
-The "Elite" package was supposed to be 50% off for founders, forever. So if you couldn't buy it right away, you could later when you had some money. But interestingly, now the Elite package has shot back up to $100.
-They wait till they've raked in all the money they can, then they make their game F2P
http://steamcommunity.com/app/407840/discussions/0/351660338714684747/
They even tried reviving their old game
http://steamcommunity.com/games/104900/announcements/detail/845934212532972448
(also I noticed in Orion: Prelude, when I used to play it ages ago, there was no in game store. Then earlier this year I noticed one was implomented, so clearly this is a move to make money. The game also recently recieved a 1.2gb update which I have tried out and it seems to change nothing, so it's probably to remind people the game exists.
And what do the people who already paid good money for it receive?

♥♥♥♥ all.

Don't buy this game. Don't support this developer. If you really want to play it, it's going F2P anyway.
Well if you did manage to read this, please spread the word. There's a high chance I'm going to be banned so David can censor my opinion. Just like how he constantly changes the games name so all the people who posted stuff elsewhere about how bad it is have a lower chance of the people reading it to find it.

DON'T BUY THIS GAME. It's been in development almost a year and it has no real content, and there are less average players NOW than a two months after release. The game is dead or dying. It's not even worth it for free.

Plus, all my concerns from way back in May, have been confirmed. The grind is increasing as the dev makes it more difficult for players to PLAY and not PAY. If you thought the grind was bad in the past (hundreds of hours), then know that it is worse now - and will be worse when the game goes F2P.

August 9

---

This game still has little content. After (THREE) major updates, all that the devs have managed to add is server hubs (useless when no people play), cosmetics, and to the ingame store, and FPS. That's it. Nothing that enhances the game. You still do the same boring thing forever, on the same handful of maps. It's a HUGE GRIND. It's not fun.

And the average player count has decreased over the past FEW months (60+% player loss).

On top of that, the Elite package is a joke. $100 dollars? And this doesn't even include content. It's just cosmetics, a promise for guardians, the ability to get loot crates (crates are elite item only, unless you pay cash), and a few other things that give pay players a head start. You can't buy the Elite package with ingame currency (it didn't work for me), which totally destroys the developers recurring statement that its "pay or play." The content may not make the game "pay to win," but it is putting the content behind a paywall. It's a paywall, a legitimate paywall.

Oh, and did I mention the dev went crazy on a banning spree, posted new rules (which he hasn't managed to follow), and then only changed IMO because someone threatened to sue for libel? (DEV STILL CAN'T FOLLOW HIS OWN RULES, bans those who do follow them.)

BUY A CANDYBAR OR A SODA.

It's amazing that a developer can make so many players (1/3) of their game, regret spending a $1.00. If it was 5% or 10%, that's not worth mentioning, but 30-40% is significant. It's a dollar, but such a waste at this point.

-----

May 22

After trying to contribute to the community, and voice an opinion that was in line with other players, I have found that this game has a toxic community (dev and hardcore players mostly). The devs encourage name-shaming (banned by Steam/its community). Dev was threatened with a libel lawsuit, and shortly after he started "apologizing."

The have taken my opinions, which have been supportive, critical, and constructive, and responded in a manner that will not create a solid community. They have responded with rudeness unbecoming of a developer, even resorting to threatening a "time out" for our differing definitions. The devs are negatively enforcing the community.

On this basis alone, I cannot recommend this game. No one wants to be in a community of belittlers, and angsty people (IMO).

Previously, I said this game was worth the dollar, but only if you didn't want to buy into the extra content. However, with recent events (devs behavior), I cannot recommend this game. Do yourselves a favor and play any number of FREE games, like TF2 or Dungeon Defenders 2.

If you really want this game, put it on your waiting list, and wait a few years when the time vs. value of this game evens. JUST KIDDING, don't do this. EVER.

Should you think this won't apply to you, you may continue to read the rest of my review (which as of the August is IMO still entirely true). The developers will deny there is a paywall, simply because they offer outrageous exchange rates and time requirements. Can't pay? You'll pay with precious time. No time? Pay with your wallet. No good balance, and now the edition of the Elite package plus major cuts in credit rewards for players.

-----

What I do like about the game? After 20 hours, there is only one thing I can say that is good about this game.

- Nada, new update ruined the graphics, optimization tanked.

What do I not like?

-/-/-/-/-/ It's boring atm
-/ No real content.
-/ The music. I just turn it off and put my own music on. BUT lots of people like the music, so....
-/ The in game voices
-/ I don't feel there is enough difference between the classes to spend time on leveling more than one. A few guns, a few skills, but it feels like classes still lack depth.
-/ The game has little depth. There are only a few levels, which are large. But you still end up bored because you always do the same thing.
-/ Hollow boring maps deserve their own section.
-/ Although there are lots of dinosaurs, they still all feel the same. Apart from the Trex, I use the same tactics for every single one.
-/ Not very user friendly interface. Crafting is a pain. Take a peek at some games like Terraria for how to do a proper system.
-/ Hit detection (for topdown) is pretty bad. I'm aiming left, but shooting right.
-/ Endgame community is terrible.
-/ No endgame content.

----

The problem lies in the future of the game, the developers and their business plan. If you buy this game now, and likley in the future, you are going to

a) waste a lot of time trying to get money to buy new classes (conversion rates force players to spend inordinate amounts of time to buy any extra content - guardians, etc).

b) or spend a ridiculous about of money - on top of your "dollar game" to buy future content. The Elite package is the perfect example. To buy the classes alone you could nearly buy a new release AAA title.

c) deal with the developers making choices for the player, frequently changing their minds, and being told to deal with it. I would consider the developers toxic.

d) deal with a toxic player led community leader system that is supported by the devs - which is already abusive to players. The first name-shaming and punishment vote from the Galactic Council is an example

(All of these have proven to be TRUE since first posted in early May)

It's pretty obvious this is becoming a cash-cow. You buy into the game for cheap (nearly free- ), and then you are encouraged to spend money to get different classes, etc. You are told it's cheap, and there is a lot to do... But all those features feel hollow. By the looks of things, what you need to buy is only going to pile up. When a game has a cash store for content in early access, that is a bad sign. To me, it feels like the devs are tacking on a form of DLC in EA.

Finally, I feel there are some ethical issues with the devs. A few months back they encouraged players to buy the game. They pretty much came out and said development was going to halt, and that they were then going to sell it for a dollar. I bought it at that time thinking development was close to finishing, and I wanted to support the devs. Plus, I got a discount.

This is when they really decided to split founders access from regular players (May 2nd). While yes, people were told to activate their account online, any players who did pay a higher price or fund the game with the intent to help and didn't activate the game... Are now shafted by the devs. These people will have to resort to either buying the content that they payed for - taking the loss if they purchased the game at a higher price, or spending hours and hours playing to get ingame currency.

WAIT!? What about all that conent coming in the future? It still doesn't change that for me I feel the devs crossed a line with this tactic. I understand that there is the counterargument "well, you were told you had to do it before then." I just don't agree with it. I don't agree with advertising the game with benefits, when you aren't really willing to give those benefits to the players .

Also, David is really not a stellar guy (see art theft fiasco). But why talk about that, when he's been dishonest in so many other ways that people don't see?

nothing like an mmo. isn't a persistent open world. you just pick a mission and get beamed down, beat the mission, and then exit the mission. if you can even beat the mission because often it scatters your team sometimes even at the 4 corners of the map. even if the mission objective moves halfway across the map, it keeps the same spawnpoint, so if you join late you're nowhere near your team.

im not even gonna mention what the dev did btw. this is the age of google. educate yourself, its not my job to do it for you.

To be honest, was attracted by the possible FPS mode that was shown in the trailer, the ability of switching between FPS and TPS would be pretty neat, whether it will be included or not seems uncertain at this point. But without that option this game seems very generic, the controls were pretty bad as well, many character actions seems pointless in a TPF. Game play it self is boring and beyond simple, after 10 waves of enemies I fail to see the point of it all, maybe a proper story mode will do this game some good? Wouldn't recommend this game to most, unless it's free to play.

"20 FRIENDS ALREADY OWN THIS GAME" Steam now says. Lowest of which is now 59 hours. I don't usually write reivews as I don't read reviews because games I think are cool, some friends will say suck, dont buy. Or games they say I HAVE TO PLAY I don't like them at all. So it's all opnion. Then you have reviews from people who have never played, and just into copypaste culture. So I need to form my own opnions.

Saw the game when Steam said "an item on your wishlist is on sale" and when I clicked it, I didn't remember putting this on any wish list. Im sure it was from Steam discovery a while back and I had forgotten. So what I did, was search for game play videos. And the first ones I saw I thought were pretty awesome.

Next video I see is the "we created the worst game ever" which was funny, but even the glitch compliation didn't lead me to think that. It's another case of "I hate E.T. that game is the worst ever! But I've never played it.. I just made youtube videos about it" I'm sure. Then how it was re-crafted and that's pretty cool. But didn't sway me to get it. It was game play I was interested in.

Unlike "microsoft v.s. sony!" people I wont fight for or against anyone who wouldn't care less if I paid my rent on time.

So I jumped it.. I thought the community was amazing, the expansive system of modules are great. Just as a BETA and seeing where it can go, knowing what the UE4 is capaible of, is exciting for me.

I see people say "Game getting 30FPS not playable". I noticed that too, I get 30FPS. But never once had it feel like it. Not sure why that is. If you have 60FPS or lower in Counter Strike you sure will feel that difference. So I find it strange others would notice it. Maybe they don't, they just see the number and think it's bad. I could care less about FPS, you either pwn or you suck. And if you suck, you just have fun and eventually get better.

Im excited to see where this goes. Like may ideas I've written out on paper for a game, they all seem strangely close to what this development team has in mind for the future of the game. And great lore behind it too.

You might not like it of course, it really might not be your thing. Your mate may love it but you may hate it (maybe you don't even like games with guns). It's all opnions at the end of the day.

I just can't believe I spent nearly 15 hours a day for a whole week of my summer vacation playing this! Playing a game period.

But I won't convince anyone they need to love or hate, or buy or don't buy anything. Because it doesn't keep my car on the road, it does not bring peace, it does not get me stright A's in university, and it does not pay my rent.

Playing it with the cool people who also play, that's all I care about.

Alrit, i want to keep this review as simple as possible.

I remember seeing this game on discovery and i did not wait long to get this game. Mostly because it said PvE somewhere, anyways i definitly did not regret getting this game, well maybe a little because this game becme a addict for me xD. jokes apart, for a developing game, its truely amazing with its super friendly community that helps new players understand the basics pretty much. Another thing i noticed was there is an offline game options that i have not yet tried so not gonna talk about it.

Usually in Coop games like PvE, if really tried, one can alone finish the game, but here go for higher difficulty, or 40 wave in survival, its all about teamplay, which is the most amazing part of this game. There are quite few flaws, but who cares, this game is still in development and i'm damn sure its gonna be fixed.

As always liking a game or hating it, its all about prespective cause, ones preference is subjective. but if i was asked if i would recommend this game, i most definitly will.

And for all Orionions Happy Dino hunting :)

TO NEW PEOPLE LOOKING AT ORION: Don't instantly turn up you nose just because of the rating of this game. It is in Early-Access and has run into a few rough patches in its time, be sure to actually think about it before making a decision.

Really pretty game compared to it's successor, the graphics have been upped and the music is pretty. Despite the harsh reviews, I really like this game, though the set loadouts is really bland feeling. Since this is in early access (looking at harsh commenters), it is in a really good state.

Pros:
Pretty graphics, nice music
Mow down hordes of dinos
Crafting and equipment system
More than three classes
Has a couch offline mode (recent games need that)
One freaking dollar, I bought a bunch for my friends.

Cons:
Simple loadouts
Kill all dinos while the harvester is broken (survival solves that with 1 minute)
Lacks players
No clear way to unlock new classes
Dodge by holding space
Shooting Pterodactyls in top-down mode
Training(have follow you) Dinos while healing/shooting/freaking giant raptor chases you

A few suggestions is to put dodge as it's own button rather than holding space, since in a panic you will jump instead and holding it down may not have you dodge in time.
With equipment, when you go to another class/character/whatever, the items you have on one of your other characters should be available to others, so you don't have to unequip everything from one person just so another can have it for a few rounds before you switch to another character and repeat the process.

Bought it over 2 weeks ago and have yet to be able to play it. I've tried every fix I could find online and no avail. It looked so fun too :/. Thank god I got it on sale.
First issue was getting the screen to stop flashing constantly when it went into fullscreeen at 1080p. Once that was done I tried to create profiles to play, but everytime I tried it would crash and crash and CRASH.
Maybe I should refund it.

This game is bad. Poor optimization, i have lowest video settings and still 20-30 fps. As for now the game is unplayable in its current state. Maybe a few updates, some fixes and the game will be good. Prelude is much better.

I can say plenty of good things about the game this was supposed to be, Orion: Prelude, except that there is no community left to play it. I decided to purchase this game during the Steam sale and join in with the crowd who was moving onto the latest and greatest. Sadly while launching it loads up the splash art on my desktop and just... sits there... And sometimes for a very long time. The first time I was able to launch the game I was very excited regardless! I was going to kill me some dinos with people across the world. Too bad when I try to join either of the online options it simply says "Connecting with Steam" for, well, it doesn't stop, I have waited until the game realized it timed out and kicked me back to the main menu. I decided to instead try out the single player mode, the load times can still be unreasonably long, but eventually I was able to get in. Sadly the game modes were uninteresting as a solo player.

Most of my "Play time" has been waiting for the game to launch, I have gotten to play for maybe about 30 minutes out of the current 100 showing. The game is not even ready for beta with all these difficulties. I am not trying to run it on a toster, and should not have to wait 10 minutes for ANYthing to load on my current rig.

Pros: I bought it for less then a buck

Cons: Unable to access the online modes, game takes anywhere from 1 to 10 minutes to launch, lacks even as much content as Orion: Prelude, unable to reach the support team for assistance, had to pay for this "game".
