This game was incredible piece something both I and the boy of 5 years thought was incredibly fun. The humor is brilliant in the game and make difficult tasks, but sometimes too easily, but the story of the game is clamping ends and fun even though it is not a lot of action or thing that happens all the time, this game with the few dialogues perfectly matched

Short Verdict: A great puzzle game strongly based on spatial orientation, physics and some platforming. If you don't know it already, the basic premise is having a gun capable of shooting two portals, between which you can travel to solve puzzles. Portal is a classic and, as you'll see below, I can hardly say anything bad about it. You should at least try it (there's a demo available, or so it seems)!

Pros:
  • Smart puzzles, with great balance between pure thinking and skills (a bit too much on the skills side for my personal taste, but I wouldn't say it's a con)
  • Great atmosphere that builds up throughout the game
  • Fun side-quests, like finding radios and taking them to the right spot, and also putting down security cameras
  • Even has advanced levels and challenges for hardcore players

Cons:
  • Apart from Least Portals, I couldn't find challenges any fun, especially the Least Steps challenge.
  • Carrying objects around is slightly too clumsy. For instance, I'd like to be able to rotate what I'm carrying.

Bought on: Got it as a gift from Xsesis! Thanks a lot! It's been as cheap as US$ 1.99 (or R$ 3,99) on Steam. That's a steal! Definitely worth more.

Portal is a very interesting game, your given a gun, and your main goal is to complete all the tests chambers with that gun, without getting killed, therefore you will earn yourself cake The cake is a lie! . Portal has it's pros and cons, some of which are the concept is absoulutley...AMAZING! You will probably never see a game like this again, so it's best to get your hands on it. The music? There is none....just kidding, beat the game and you will find yourself one of the best songs you will ever hear. This game is actually kind of scary too, some of the sound effects and looks, can give you the spooks, and that's more in Portal 2 though, since it has creepy looks at the beginning, loud noises and all the goodies you could imagine. Here's the bad part, theres only about 3 hours of gameplay. If your looking to get all the achievements, it's right around 30 hours, and theres only like 12? 13? They're ridiculously hard. Some of them, requires you to move 2 steps. HOW IN THE WORLD DO YOU DO THAT? Yea, the achievements are hard. Second game? Theres 1 achievement thats tough, get 1 friend who's NEVER done co-op before, it can be tricky, but it's still worth it. Both games are filled with story. If there was a third one, I'd totally get it, without a hesitation.

Come on... You have Steam and you haven't played Portal yet?? You're crazy. You shouldn't even need reasons to buy it. Everything that you've heard about 'Portal' is true. Well, if you've heard nothing but great things about it, that is. Because this is easily one of the greatest puzzle games to ever be created. Hell, it may even be one of the greatest games created, period. It's like 'Half Life 2' but on crack! You thought crack was bad for you, didn't you? Well it turns out that crack is good when combined with elements of puzzle solving and first person shooters.

'Portal' may be short, but it's pretty damn cheap too. And when you take into consideration the difficulty of the added challenges after you've completed the story, it should take a decent amount of time to complete.

Nevertheless, it's refreshing to see a first person 'shooter' without bullets and if you haven't picked this game up that's something that you should probably be doing right about now.

One of the Few games that manage to creep me out, even though it wasn't a Horror game... In Portal, you (Chell) have been ordered to complete Tests for your Garenteed, Safe, Exit by GLADoS. You feel so alone in the Test Chambers, although you have GLADoS speaking to you, (They feel like Old recordings..) you still have that alone feeling.. Until you meet the Companion Cube.. You'll see what I mean soon enough.. Apart from the Rattman Dens, and the Creepy Turrets.. This game is truly a Masterpiece!

I will be brief: I downloaded demo and played for 5 minutes. Then I removed it, went to the store and bought Portal 1-2 bundle. That same f'n day - 16 of July, 2011. The consequences: 50+ hours, all challenges done and the place earned in my digital heart for ever.

The first Portal is for sure shorter, has less story and features than the sequel. Though it has something... the mistery, the charm, the feel of menace, elegant sci-fi scent and terrific GLaDOS who hasn't went over the top yet. Valve, put your sorry Dota 2 down and please make games like this.

The Portal games were two of the games that I already owned on the xbox that I found worthy enough to purchase again on steam. Both games are quite wonderful, and are equally deserving of a playthrough.

Pros
+ The graphics are a bit dated in terms of newer games, but look wonderful for their age, and run smoothly on most machines. I will sacrifice top notch graphics for playability any day, and this game doesnt make you sacrifice either.
+ Voice acting is strong, clear, and adds another layer of awesome for this game.
+ The game is a puzzle platformer game with enough challenge to give your brain a workout, but not difficult enough to make you want to throw your laptop out of a window.
+ It has GLaDOS in the game. I put this under pro simply because her commentary throughout the game is hillarious.
+ The game has achievements. Pretty self explanatory.

Cons
- There is little replayability for this game, other than to hear GLaDOS speak.
- I experienced some crashes at inopportune times, but could not figure out if it was a hardware conflict, or something else.

Final Thoughts

All in all, this is one of the most fun games that I've ever played. The humor used within the game is right up my alley, and the game itself runs well and gives me enough of a challenge to feel satisfied after playing it. I do feel that most games this old aren't worth the full price on Steam, but this game is an exception- largely due to the amusement factor. I would rate this game an 8/10.

It may be short, but boy is it sweet. Portal is one of those rare, perfect games.

Playing through Portal, you'll be treated to delightfully subversive dark humor, which slowly gives way to a creepy, sinister atmosphere. The gameplay is rock-solid, too - challenging, but not unfair to the player. And without spoiling anything I can tell you that Portal has one of the best video game characters this side of 2000.

Long after you've finished it, this game will stick with you.

An eerie sci-fi, first person, physics puzzle game, Portal is the spin-off series to Half-Life taking place in the same universe.

----
Overview
Taking place in Aperture Science laboratories -the Enrichment Center- you are a test subject awakened from suspension state for testing purposes. You are given the Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device to take place in the physics experiment, though the plot unravels to reveal a darker truth to the facilities.

Gameplay
Playing Portal on the first time can be admittedly disorienting, but the player progressively adapts to the puzzling nature of the portals and the Device throughout the test chambers. Dealing with test elements such as moving platforms, high-energy pellets, AI turrets and acid pits, each chamber is challenging in its own manner.

You can also try the extra challenges in the game for bragging rights and achievements.

Plot
While relatively shallow, the plot of the original Portal game has a certain degree of paranoia fuel and space for imagination of what's manipulating the experiment and the nature of the Enrichment Center. Combined with the ARG and further content ('Lab Rat' comic, among others), the game lore is carried forward and somewhat explained of how it fits within the Half-Life universe, leading into the events of the sequel.

Graphics
Decent level of detail for a puzzle game, and low performance required make this game worth a try for even older machines.

Sound
The soundtrack of Kelly Bailey, composer of the Half-Life series has the uncanny feeling of both sinister, outworldish experience that Aperture Science becomes to the player, helping the immersion into the strange world of Aperture.
The sound effects in the game are fitting to the setting, mainly consisting of sci-fi noises and mechanical machinery. Few audio errors are noticeable if any.
----

TL;DR: A strange puzzle game that proves a challenging experience eventually brings you deeper into the lore of Aperture Science, a fairly enjoyable game with a great sequel and setting.

Portal is a magnificent puzzle game. The titillating wrongness of every solution and the "JUSTNOIDEA" thinking required to get there make you feel like a space-folding genius, and yet you'll almost never get stuck. Skilled players will portal their way through the nineteen levels in just a few hours, but this little puzzle game / tech demo provides plenty of entertainment and makes a great addition to The Orange Box. WHICH IS AWESOME :D BUT NOT CO-OP THOUGH , ONLY SINGLEPLAYER . 10/10
