About This Game

Portal™ is a new single player game from Valve. Set in the mysterious Aperture Science Laboratories, Portal has been called one of the most innovative new games on the horizon and will offer gamers hours of unique gameplay.

The game is designed to change the way players approach, manipulate, and surmise the possibilities in a given environment; similar to how Half-Life® 2's Gravity Gun innovated new ways to leverage an object in any given situation.

Players must solve physical puzzles and challenges by opening portals to maneuvering objects, and themselves, through space.

I will be brief: I downloaded demo and played for 5 minutes. Then I removed it, went to the store and bought Portal 1-2 bundle. That same f'n day - 16 of July, 2011. The consequences: 50+ hours, all challenges done and the place earned in my digital heart for ever.

The first Portal is for sure shorter, has less story and features than the sequel. Though it has something... the mistery, the charm, the feel of menace, elegant sci-fi scent and terrific GLaDOS who hasn't went over the top yet. Valve, put your sorry Dota 2 down and please make games like this.

Everything that you've heard about 'Portal' is true. Well, if you've heard nothing but great things about it, that is. Because this is easily one of the greatest puzzle games to ever be created. Hell, it may even be one of the greatest games created, period. It's like 'Half Life 2' but on crack! You thought crack was bad for you, didn't you? Well it turns out that crack is good when combined with elements of puzzle solving and first person shooters.

'Portal' may be short, but it's pretty damn cheap too. And when you take into consideration the difficulty of the added challenges after you've completed the story, it should take a decent amount of time to complete.

Nevertheless, it's refreshing to see a first person 'shooter' without bullets and if you haven't picked this game up that's something that you should probably be doing right about now.

The Portal games were two of the games that I already owned on the xbox that I found worthy enough to purchase again on steam. Both games are quite wonderful, and are equally deserving of a playthrough.

Pros
+ The graphics are a bit dated in terms of newer games, but look wonderful for their age, and run smoothly on most machines. I will sacrifice top notch graphics for playability any day, and this game doesnt make you sacrifice either.
+ Voice acting is strong, clear, and adds another layer of awesome for this game.
+ The game is a puzzle platformer game with enough challenge to give your brain a workout, but not difficult enough to make you want to throw your laptop out of a window.
+ It has GLaDOS in the game. I put this under pro simply because her commentary throughout the game is hillarious.
+ The game has achievements. Pretty self explanatory.

Cons
- There is little replayability for this game, other than to hear GLaDOS speak.
- I experienced some crashes at inopportune times, but could not figure out if it was a hardware conflict, or something else.

Final Thoughts

All in all, this is one of the most fun games that I've ever played. The humor used within the game is right up my alley, and the game itself runs well and gives me enough of a challenge to feel satisfied after playing it. I do feel that most games this old aren't worth the full price on Steam, but this game is an exception- largely due to the amusement factor. I would rate this game an 8/10.

I apologize sincerely to anyone who came here from the Original Network pages. I am no longer affiliated with the group or network. Please unfollow them and throw me a like if you wish, let's support honest reviews. What has happened does not change my thoughts about this game, and I stand by my words.
