What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Faeria is in early development. Throughout our Kickstarter experience we learned a lot from the community, and we have still a lot to learn from you! Entering Steam Early Access will enable players to obtain access to the game early and help shape its future.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Faeria will go Free-to-Play by September 2016, but will stay in Early Access for several more months as we get ready for our official Version 1.0 release.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The current version of Faeria already includes a lot of very interesting features, but we are using Early Access to gather feedback from our community. We need your help to shape the finishing touches! Features due by our 1.0 release include:

  • Game interface improvements
  • Emotes
  • Improved spectator mode
  • Complete PvE mode
  • New cosmetics
  • Tablet support
  • Bug fixes and performance improvements
  • At least 10 new cards in the core set
  • New illustrations
  • New languages
  • Even more great features that we aren't quite ready to share yet

Once we leave Early Access and launch version 1.0, there’s even more we aim to bring to Faeria…

  • Expansions
  • Fully integrated tournaments
  • Console and phone versions

And much more! Join the conversation and help us shape Faeria on Facebook, Twitter, Reddit & our forums.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Even though there are some very important features still to come, Faeria currently offers all of the key features you'd expect of a quality game:

  • Pandora Mode (Arena) [NEW]
  • 15 solo missions to learn the game
  • 257 Unique Cards
  • Practice vs AI
  • Battle mode (PVP)
  • Ranked mode
  • Tournament features
  • Spectator mode
  • Friends list + challenge your friends
  • In-game shop for: Booster Packs, Full Core Set, Avatars and Orbs!
  • Awesome art and illustrations

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We currently have a price on entering Early Access to ensure we grow at a stable rate, however Faeria will be Free-to-Play before the end of Early Access, and will remain so once fully released.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Every one of us is a part of our community. We are gamers first. We are open to all ideas, big or small, through our various channels. Those ideas help us shape the future of Faeria in terms of features, gameplay, and polish.

We want as many Faeria players as possible to be active in providing us with feedback!”

Faeria Friday August 12, 2016: Knowledge is power

Monthly Cup results, First-move advantage statistics, and a sneak peek at some of the upcoming Solo content. It must be a Faeria Friday!

Monthly Cup Results

Last Saturday our second Monthly Cup concluded, and we've crowned a new champion! The Monthly Cup is our official $3300 tournament that comes around at the end of every ladder season.

If you missed the live stream and want to see some of the matches, make sure to head over to this forum thread to watch the highlights.

The next qualifying season for the Monthly Cup is already underway. Make sure to track it at https://esports.faeria.com/ and remember to Vote for your Favorite player!

Free-to-play announcement

If you're reading this and are a new player, welcome!

Our Free-to-play announcement and celebration has brought in quite a few new faces. If you're looking for some help or want to make some new friends, the best place for that is by engaging with us in our official Discord channel, which you can also find by clicking the button in the lower left of your friends list in-game. If you're more inclined to read some articles or find some strategy guides to digest, try heading to http://www.playfaeria.com/. Lastly, don't forget to visit our Official Boards which you can access using your existing Faeria account. There's no shortage of helpful resources to get you started.

Go ahead, do a little exploring.

First-move advantage

First-move advantage, or "first turn advantage", is the inherent edge the first player to act receives in most turn-based strategy or card games. Chess, for example, has a generally accepted advantage of about 54% given to the White player. We've taken a lot of steps to mitigate this factor as much as reasonably possible, the most recent of which was adding a bonus of 2 Faeria to the Explore card earlier this year. The effects of this change impressed even us, as we observed win ratios hover comfortably close to 50% across the board.

However, a lot of you have been asking for a more detailed breakdown of these numbers, and we are more than happy to provide. Something interesting you'll notice is that as the Elo of the player rises, the advantage slightly increases.

Click the image above to open a more detailed infographic on exactly where we stand right now on first-move advantage.

Upgrading to the Early Access bundle

A common question we've been getting is how to upgrade your free account into one with the Early Access bundle that has the exclusive cosmetics and booster packs. While there's currently no easy way to do this without a coupon from outside of Steam, we are planning on making some upgrades to our in-game store that should arrive by version 0.8 on August 24th.

You'll be able to easily purchase this upgrade in-game with a click of a button, if that's something you're into. No pressure.

Solo Content Preview

As you see above, Hoaka will be part of the heavy amount of Solo content bundled into our August 24th update. He's pretty clever - or at least he thinks he is.

The new Solo experience will be centered around Epic quests and challenges like this one, which will introduce you to new characters and tell you a little more about some of the major players in the Faeria universe. After the update, there should be over 20 hours of solo content, including the introduction of 30 tricky puzzles for you to solve.

Make no mistake: All Solo content in the next update will be completely free and require no extra purchase.

Pretty cool, no?

Faeria goes Free-to-play on August 24th!

Free to Play is coming

As we mentioned in our last roadmap update, we have a few milestones to reach before we exit Early Access. The first milestone will be releasing the next major version, **v0.8**, and make the transition into a completely Free to Play model while we're at it.

So yeah, the wait is soon over as the date is set for August 24th!

New Content

With every big version release comes important features, and v0.8 will be no exception. Brand new single player content will be added to the game for the first time since Early Access launched. "Solo" mode will grow from being an important but small part of the game to becoming a full blown single player experience. It will not only help new players learn how to play Faeria, but offer a variety of challenging scenarios to complete. We aim to have around 20 hours of solid single player content to begin with, and plan to steadily increase that amount over the coming months and years. Other changes in this milestone update will include new supported languages, newly designed Mythic card layouts, and numerous other smaller improvements and optimizations.

Tablet Testing

During September we will begin private alpha testing for the iOS tablet version. Remember, you can still apply to be a part of this testing by filling out the form referred to on our main post. This will be the first stage in our development for mobile platforms. Further tablet support and testing will be announced later this year.

Download Faeria today, for Free!

In celebration of this announcement, Faeria is available to **download for free** right now on Steam, for a 24 hour period that began last night. Add the game to your account now and keep access to it forever! This promotion will end at 4:00pm Pacific (1:00am CEST). Click here to visit the Steam Store page.

tl;dr- This game is a breath of fresh air in the CCG genre. It does borrow from big names such as Hearthstone and Magic the Gathering, but brings fun new mechanics and a living board which makes it feel fresh. It is also very generous with gold earnings and Pandora (Arena-like draft mode) rewards, allowing it never feel like a grind. I just play because its FUN.
Early Access Score 9.5/10

What's new and good?
-This is the first CCG I've played in a long time that brings more than just a couple fresh elements. The "board" being the most obvious one. Puting down land tiles to create the board in which both players play on is unique (as far as i know) and incredibly fun. Faeria Wells are in each of the 4 corners of the board, and you can go collect the Faeria, which is essentially your mana used to pay for cards. Or you may want to pressure your opponent instead of farming resources, or meet somewhere in between. It adds a lot of strategy and decision-making to the game.
-The art style is beautiful. Some card art in this game is worthy of being hung on a wall. The board and surroundings all play into the feel of the game, and the sounds and music are very calm and satifying at the same time.
-This game has very minimal RNG outside of Pandora mode. Pandora is Faeria's version of Arena, and it is very random. However the normal play (Battle mode, ranked and unranked) is incredibly skill-based. With up to 3 copies of each card (aside from legendaries) stuffed in a 30 card deck, you can make a very narrow and on-task deck. The only real RNG is the card draw and opening hand. Aside from that, there are a few cards with random elements but very few and they aren't actually that good. Some people might like a HS level of randomness, and if so I guess this is a downside for you, but I really appreciate how tactical this game can be.
-This level of affordablness is a pleasant surprise. You can purchase the entire collection for 50 bucks, while other "f2p" CCGs would cost hundreds dollars to collect all the cards. You get 10 gold for every single win in Battle mode, along with daily quests. I find myself sitting on 500 gold without even realizing I was saving up (packs cost 100 and pandora runs 250).

Cons
I really only have one complaint, and it is a personal preference, therefore I can't really say this is an objectively negative aspect. Pandora mode feels messy. Every 10th card you draft, you get to pick a Pandora Card. They are incredibly powerful and game changing, which is fine and fair since everyone gets to pick 3 of them.
Pandora games function similarly to Battle Mode games. You start the same, gather Faeria, fight for board control, etc. However each player has "Pandora Shards" shuffled into their decks. Once 5 shards are drawn, pandora opens, the Faeria wells are now empty and you gain a fixed amount of Faeria every turn. You also start drawing your pandora cards.
I think this mode is so frustrating. I spent the game gathering Faeria, getting board control and an economic advantage, then all of that is gone. The wells shut down so your board position doesn't have an economic benefit anymore. Plus some of the pandora cards are strong enought that the underdog can mount a comeback. I have lost to pandora cards, and I have comeback and unrightfully won with pandora cards. Neither feels good.
In the end, you don't have to play Pandora, and it isn't THAT unfun, I still do a run every now and then, but this did bum me out, as I typically love draft modes.

Overall this is a good card game. Cards have prerequisites (# or special lands) for summon, and they also have their own unique traits such as Taunt. Wisely prepare the card deck, think carefully and be strategic to win the battles.

The worst thing for me is that the gameplay is far tooooo slow. Usually 10 minutes or more in single player games, and it doubles even triples in online games. I almost can't stand for this. Wish the developers could improve this.

Disclaimer : I got this game when it was being given away for free on Steam

As far as I know this is the only online CCG available for Linux natively. So if, like me, you are running on linux this is your only choice.

Fore everyone else this comes down to Faeria vs MTGO vs HS.

Frankly if you aren't already invested in MTGO or have deep pockets, it's just right out and there are better options.

So HS vs Faeria comes down to different base game mechanics. In my opinion Faeria, once you understand the core mechanics, is much more complex in not only deck construction but also play due to the "living board" and wells mechanic.

Get it if you have linux, watch some videos to see if you want it otherwise.

With Hearthstone dominating the casual tcg market there are alot of games that try to copy that formula but up untill this point of writting this review no game has accomplished that.Faeria is a mixture of hearthstone and magic the gathering with a twist of card placement and limited freedom during the first turns of the game wich isn't bad nor frusturating at all.As far as bugs and card ballance goes you shouldn't expect a lot scince it is early access but it isn't broken either. The music is nothing to write home about and so are the sound effects but for an early access soon to be free to play title i would advise you give it a shot.I am looking foraward ro what the developers will do with this during the next few months.

Ok i've spend more than 40hours on this, i guess i have to write a review now..
Keep in mind that the game is still in early access.

First: The price.
Since it seems to be the first concern about the review...
Right now, the game cost 8€, but it will be free on its release. So unless you want to play during early access (with its amount of bug and unbalanced gameplay), it's just your typical free to play game with a grinding/store system. You know, basically just like every other cards game. So let's compare thoses two systems with the most popular card game, Hearthstone:
Grinding is faster than Hearthstone. The idea is exactly the same, aka earning gold by winning or doing daily quest, and buying booster for 100 gold each. You can also craft cards using raw materials you get from unused cards you want to get rid of. The difference stand by the numbers: in Faeria, you earn 10 gold per win, while in Hearthstone it's 10 gold per 3 wins. Quest also give more gold (60-80 in faeria, for 40-60 in Hearthstone). You also win a booster each time you level up.
Crafting is also a lot cheaper in Faeria, since you need 400 raw material to craft a Legendary card (the rarest ones), while you need 1600 in Hearthstone for the same result.

If you don't want to lose time on farming, you can also buy boosters, just like in any other cards game. The difference here is you can buy all the collection for 50€, while it's usually 50€ for a large pack of booster (like in hearthstone, for exemple). So for the same price, you are certain to have every cards you need, instead of trying your luck with boosters and not even opening the whole collection in the end.

So i don't get why people complain over the price. This is certainly the cheapest or the fastest to complete card game right now.

Second: The gameplay.
This game reminds me of Pox Nora, another cards/tactical game that was quite popuplar back then. So you need to take the control of the map by literally building it, in order to defend your mana pool, defend your god or get near the opponent's one. This makes the game having two sides: is my deck strong enough to catch up with my opponent's one, and how am i going to take control of the map building lands?

Cards use some of the mechanics we see in all TCG, like haste, taunt, doing X when it comes in play, etc... but also have clever powers on lands you build, and introducing mechanics i wasn't used to, like doing damage to the player while fighting his creatures, wich i find very interesting since it open a whole new level of thought over the triade Control/Aggro/Combo we see in every god damn cards games.

Right now, i have to say the game is not well balanced, even if it's not awful. Even though i have all the cards, i cannot make every deck i want, because some colors or combination of colors are just way stronger and faster than others. But they are trying to balance it and in the end, it could lead to a very large variety of possibilities.

Did i mention how not random this game is compare to Hearthstone? Right now in Hearthstone, 50% of cards have random effects. This is so pleasant to get rid of that randomness.

Third: The communauty.
This game has a very large group of players, so you won't be bothered while looking for someone to play against. This game is quite new however, so netdecking is awful. Since meta is not 100% stable, you don't see a lot of variety when you play ranked matches. On the other hand, unranked match show some very different idea, and i love to chill playing my fun decks on unranked, while i play ranked with the serious stuff.

Fourth: The visual.
Yeah it's beautiful and original art design. But i really don't cary about visual.

Finally, i just have to say that this game feels like the best Trading Cards Game online right now. Of course, IRL nothing can beat the God of TCG, aka Magic the Gathering (even if it's also the most expensive one), but online this one seems to take the first place. To bad it wasn't designed by Blizzard, so it won't get as popular.

*early access and first impressions*

I only played some of quests and couple of open matches, so I haven't experienced all game features yet. So far, so good :) Reminds me of M&M: Duel of Champions, Armello and Chaos: reborn in lawful mode.

+ mechanics (board creation, summoning creatures and playing cards)
+ artwork (soooooo adorable!)
+ 3 game modes
+ skill/deck building seems to be much more important than randomness of drawn cards
+ monthly tournament

- music - I think it needs much more development
- UI need some further improvements
- seems like Pandora mode is bugged...
- it lacks proper tutorial / game info! Like how building lands work and some card effects, everything you need to learn from experience

All in all, for the 5 hours I played, I enjoyed it very much. So far, 9/10 :)

If you're into CCGs, then my review is probably worthless and lacks any depth that would be useful to you. If however, you're just now venturing into CCGs, then I hope this might be useful to you.

Having passed on Hearthstone and only collected MtG cards (but never actually played it) I was a little wary of playing Faeria, a CCG. I didn't think it'd be interesting or grab my attention given my background. I'm mostly into FPS, rarely play the campaigns of most games, and already I've got an affinity for this game.

On first play-through, its easy to pick up the basics and they do a good job of getting you through the tutorials. From a superficial view, it seems to have plenty of strategy involved. In the mean time, the only thing I can recommend is to continue to play it and see how it pans out.

A turn-based card game. From the little I know about card games, mostly standard, but the battlefield makes it unique: You place territory you can summon on each turn, and what type of ground you summon influences the cards you are able to summon. The normal part is cards with booster packs, energy cost, attack and defense, taunts, last words, and other effects. Apart from creature and spell cards also has production/building cards without attack values and static.

+ Great graphics
+ Great sound design
+ Great visual effects
+ Enough new stuff to make it unique and play-worthy
+ Free-2-Play
+ Lists real-money values alongside digital currency
* High quality hand-drawn-style graphics
* Tilted top-down view of 2D battlefield
