Key Features In Arma 3 Apex

  • Tanoa
Home to lush tropical vegetation, unique landmarks, a rich history, and imposing man-made feats of modern engineering, this 100 km² South Pacific archipelago is built to bolster authentic combat on a massive scale. Tanoa’s varied locations, such as the rainforests, volcano, shanty towns, sugar cane factory, and industrial port, cater to all scenario types. Whether it’s to conduct an all-out assault, a small-scale covert op, jungle warfare, or anything else suited to a South Pacific setting – Tanoa is the destination of choice. Your next adventure awaits.
  • New Faction, 13 New Weapons, New Uniforms & Gear
While looking to increase their strategic influence in the South Pacific, NATO and CSAT face resistance from a local criminal organization with deep roots on Tanoa. Consisting of armed thugs and ex-paramilitaries, this new faction, Syndikat, is involved in many illicit operations throughout the region, carrying familiar contemporary firearms like the AKS-74U, AKM, and AK-12 Assault Rifles, LIM-85 Light Machine Gun, RPG-7 Launcher, and the PM 9 mm pistol. NATO and CSAT, on the other hand, send in highly trained operators with state-of-the-art weaponry, such as the modular SPAR-16 Assault Rifle, the Chinese-designed CAR-95 family of weapons, Type 115 Assault Rifle, CMR-76 and SPAR-17 Marksman Rifles, and new thermal-masking uniforms, headgear, backpacks, NVGs (Night Vision Goggles), ERCO weapon optics, and more.
  • 10 New Vehicles
The Apex expansion enables more gameplay opportunities by introducing new vehicle classes to Arma 3. Take advantage of the flexibility provided by the V-44 X Blackfish and Y-32 Xi’an VTOL (Vertical Take-Off and Landing) aircraft, which combine the strengths of fixed- and rotor-wing transportation. Need to move quickly on the ground? Navigate the rugged terrain of Tanoa with the fast and flexible Prowler or Qilin LSVs (Light Strike Vehicles). To complete objectives with minimal losses, Arma 3's arsenal is also reinforced by two new UCAV (Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle) drones: KH-3A Fenghuang and MQ-12 Falcon. Plus, as could be expected in a tropical island setting, Arma 3 Apex includes suitable new civilian vehicles in the form of the MB 4WD Offroad Car, Caesar BTT Propeller Airplane, RHIB (Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat), and Water Scooter.
  • Co-op Campaign & End Game Multiplayer
Take on the role of a NATO CTRG special operator in the 1-4 player "Apex Protocol" co-op campaign. Connected to the events in the original Arma 3 "The East Wind" campaign, your team is sent to Tanoa in order to prevent a humanitarian disaster, but quickly find themselves facing a far bigger threat than they bargained for. The co-op campaign consists of highly replayable missions, featuring a drop-in/drop-out multiplayer structure, and the difficulty scales up or down based on the number of players. In addition to the co-op campaign, Arma 3 Apex adds two brand new End Game multiplayer scenarios on Tanoa, as well as a new singleplayer Showcase End Game scenario to familiarize players with the mode's objectives and rules.
  • Additional Apex Content
The Apex expansion is complemented by a wide range of additional content. This includes: Gendarmerie faction (Tanoa local law enforcement agency) armed with a new Protector 9 mm Sub-Machine Gun, NATO and CSAT faction reinforcements in the form of special forces and Pacific expeditionary units, a selection of existing Arma 3 weapons and vehicles repainted in a South Pacific camo pattern, new character appearances: Tanoan and Chinese, new radio protocols: French, French-English, and Chinese, new environment assets and props for content creators, a Tanoa Zeus Game Master scenario, 13 new Steam Achievements, and the Arma 3 Apex official soundtrack.

This DLC could easily be worth it just for the map, To me, It came with all the new Gadgets and Gizmos, Of course the jungle reskins for every is just Essential for the Map.

Just note that there are no improvments to AI and the campaign that comes with it is only Seven missions that could be considered easy because they have infinite respawns.

Pro(s):

The only thing I really enjoyed about this DLC expansion is the Tanoa map itself: it's a gorgeous, lush, and defamiliarizing tropical map, which is something I've been aching for in any Arma game (granted, there have been Arma 2 Vietnam mods, but I never came across an active one). I haven't come across too many situations where I can just stick with a high-powered rifle and a long range scope in Tanoa; more often than not am I forced to use automatic rifles because the confining jungles can make for pretty intense CQC firefights, which is something I've been wanting more out of Arma.

Cons:
I can't run Tanoa without dropping my average 50-60 frames/sec to a 15-25 frames/sec. The amount/style of weapons included are not particularly impressive (as many have said, simple Arma mods you can download from A3Launcher & Armaholic have 100x more weapon content). The vehicles that're included are interesting and different, but again, you can download mods that have more interesting vehicles. The campaign made for a fun experience with friends, but the plot of it wasn't comprehensive or interesting or difficult, much less was it something that took a lot of hours to complete (as a side note, the land/air-based drones are really awkward to operate sometimes).

Overall, this seems like a step in the right direction in terms of the environment encouraging CQC combat, rather than everyone sitting atop of hills raining .50 cal rounds onto other snipers. Other than that, this DLC just wasn't worth the $34.99 I paid for it.

Bit pricey but I'm definatley happy with it, the new map is great to play on game modes such as Wasteland and the new vehicles are really fun too, The new weapons are pretty cool aswell, adds more variety instead of using the same old stuff.

If you're a fan of Arma you've probably already gotten it, otherwise I would recommend it.

Excellent map and it runs very well, hats off to BI on this one. You also get some new vehicles and a few new toys to play with but nothing too impressive. The campaign is just terrible and bucks the whole mil-sim style play that ARMA is known for. Unlimited respawns causes the player to just throw caution to the winds and just attack until you are killed and repeat until you have ground your way through. My biggest complaint is that this DLC splits the player base. If you havent bought the DLC then you CANNOT play on the map, period.

I would say wait until APEX goes on sale for 15 US dollars and then buy. The map is worth $15 all day long and I wish you had the option to just buy the map without any of the other fluff. Most communities are going to be running vehicle and weapon mods anyways.

When you have finally set your PC up right to play Arma , it runs beautifully, something as simple as just disabling your HDMI drive and not using sound from your GPU but your PC instead can make all the difference. Its always the stuff you would never think should matter that's causing the problem. I am in love with this game and this expansion is beautiful and runs awesome. What makes Arma worth every penny and more is its replay ability. Tell me one game that you can replay and is different every time. If you cant have fun with Arma, than you are the problem.

It's a good expansion. Lots of good new stuff. The new island is great.

Just don't buy it for the singleplayer/CO-OP campaign. The SP blows, like really hard. I could've made better, more varied and more interesting missions and I haven't made one since the days of Operation Flashpoint.

Great expansion, get it on sale though.

Tanoa
So the jungle map is pretty interesting. It's nice to see some greenery rather than the same old fights in brown hilly scrub brush. Against other people the new map really does mix things up, jungle fights are very close quarters with low visibility, It's like playing a lethal version of Where's Waldo. On the whole I'd say visibility is shorter, it's a lot harder to stand on a hill full of wind turbines 1.5 km away with a set of binoculars scouting out a base, which actually makes air reconniasance (and UAVs) a lot more important.

The new set pieces are pretty interesting, the sugar plant is amazing, the long bridges between islands make great choke points, The farming villages are well put together. And the larger port city has a nice mix of urban street fighting, sniping by the open area around the bay, and suburbs next to the jungle.

However the dumb-yet-cheating AI gets even worse when you add in jungle foliage that you can't see through but the AI can. It is beyond frustrating to be walking through the brush with a screen full of green hearing the AI shouting commands and bullets hitting the ground around you.

New Gear
Well the guns are just guns they look different and have different stats, but in the end they all get bullets from point A to point B, the new AK is pretty awesome though, And there are a few more vehicles which add a bit of variety, but the real standout here are the VTOL planes that can move fast, land like a helicopter, and carry vehicles without sling loading. So if you are a good pilot you can swoop in and hot drop a jeep pretty close to the bad guys.

SP/CoOp
So the new campaign is pretty ARMA standard, shooting dudes in the jungle. It's nice to see some CoOp content, but the respawn mechanic is a bit odd, I know it's in service to the CoOp mode working, but it still feels weird.

Honestly I am looking forward to the mods, and I have seen people doing a lot of interesting stuff with the new content and map.

Worth the price in my opinion. This DLC adds a new tropical map with weapons, vehicles, uniforms, and a coop campaign playable with 1-4 people. I bought the dlc for the map alone which is the best in the series.

Downvoted because of lying about DLC policy. I don't care if this DLC would cost 99c instead, make it free, or you're lying scumbags Bohemia. #WorseThanEA mainly because EA won't lie about screwing you over for their own personal enjoyment.
A while ago, Bohemia promised with their DLC NOT to split the playerbase, and only introduce content everyone can see but maybe not use, so while you can still ride in the back of the fancy new helicopters, you can't fly them without the dlc, now there's a whole new map, that while cool, splinters the ♥♥♥♥ING COMMUNITY. Yes, I am quite upset about this, as most servers are using Tanoa now, which means I essentially have to buy 60% of the game, again. I was very tempted to buy this through ♥♥♥ just to pray that it was bought with a stolen CC so Bohemia would get none of their money, which they don't deserve. G-G Scum.

Additionally, the total value of their DLC is now MORE THAN THE GAME. This is not the sims! This is ARMA! This "Map and couple vehicles" is literally valued at $5 less than the main game, which is saying how much they value this content, which is trash.

This is an open letter to bohemia to drop the price of this to $15. I don't care how much effort you put into this, you lied, and false advertised essentially. Everyone needs to write a negative review no matter if the content is good or not, because the mere idea of this dlc at this price point with their prior promises breaks several basic moral codes everyone should have, and is disgraceful.

TL\DR version: Walk past or buy when it's on 30% price.

Alright, so I decided to acqure this DLC in the end. I rad a couple of reviews before getting involved - both positive and negative, and you know, the negative once have turned to be true. First of all - the price, it's too high for a product like that which is quiet poor on original content apart from the island - the island, maybe, is ok.

However it actually have some FPS issue, while I can run Altis or Stratis with 40-50-60 FPS on my PC config (on all Ultra) it is essentially giving me around 25-30 on Tanoa while playing campaign, alone. To have the game playble I had to reduce the graphics quality and view range which I didn't had to do before.

The campaign is half-♥♥♥ administrated and poor both on scenario and other stuff. Gameplay wise it's just a bunch of 'point A to point B' little missions with no opportunity to loose. And it's quiet short. I bought the game today at morning and after 3 or 4 hours it was already completed by me alone. There is nothing that can stop you from just playing the campaign through any style you want because you can't loose here and you even can't really die because of none-ending respawns. Even mission objective can't be lost while you're spending your respawn countdown jerking while there is no boots on the ground to protect something that you have to protect. And I've just started on that piece of crap - the mission flow is half-♥♥♥ administrated as well like bots can just spawn on top of you and so on. Missons are all fast and all alike, you won't see any diversity or any plot twists - CS: Condition Zero campaign is much more entertaining, that is what I can tell ya to compare.

And the best part - check the screenshots and trailers to this DLC on the very steam store page. Now so you know - you won't see any of those scenes in the actual game campaign. What you'll see is a bunch of infantry in the junge and a bunch of cars you won't even have to drive more then 1 time. I mean, campaign is going to show you less then 10% of the actual island and around that of it's own already poor content.

SPOILER ALERT BELOW, however you won't miss anything actually. The actual plot is dumb flat. Csat is bad and Nato is good, good bye. That's the only story material you'll carry out of the campaign. There is zero to no logic in what is going on and the story is damn stright and simple. Comparing to the original East Wind scenario flow with it's ~40 episodes and nice story plus twists the Apex campaign is just a nonesence. Workshop have a lot of better orchestrated missions made by community mambers for free.

Now on 'new toys' - it says you'll have a lot of new weapons and vehicles. But don't be rushed to be impressed. Most of that are just copy - past of old weapons, camos and helmets \ gear etc with some new textures slapped on it. There is very little of new, original contect. Some few good things are actually present but that's about it.

Almost forgot to mention that AI are running mad on Tanoa - they're either becoming empty headed and die like rats or can suddenly see you through all the foliage, at night, w\o NVG.

In the end - I was thining about playing that with my friends to remember the good Arma 2 co-op experience. But now I'm positive I won't recommend that DLC to anyone. Maybe for 30% price, not more. So if you're not in hurry to get the DLC because content of this DLC is essential for servers you like to hang around then you can relax until it's half a price or more.

Cheers. Fair seas.

There are mods with more content than this. The real tipping point that made me give this a bad review was the fact that the campaign was literally something I could put together in a week with the base game and a couple of mods. This is worth $15, tops.

This expansion is definitely worth the buy. Even at $35, it is still one of the best expansion Bohemia has ever released, and honestly I believe that everyone who owns Arma 3 currently should purchase this because it will soon become a necessity to Arma 3.

Tanoa - The terrain is defiantly the star of this expansion, it is a huge archipelago of dense jungle, farm fields and towns. One of my most favorite things about this map is the city, Georgetown, because I don't think any other Arma game has had a city like this, a proper city. In Altis, we had Kavala, but that was just a copy paste of weird styled homes (not really weird but not anything most people would be used to). But Georgetown is a huge city with skyscrapers, 4 lane roads (really?!) and a huge port.

Vehicles and Weapons - These are the other amazing things about Apex, with my favorite being the VTOLs. The blufor faction has a huge VTOL which replaces the old C-130 line of huge air vehicles, with multiple variants such as troop transport, cargo and my favorite, armed (it has a tank turret and a Gatling gun with explosive rounds attached to the side). Secondly, the civilian jeep style vehicle is a good addition to civilians cars and is a great way to transport around the rugged terrain. Thirdly, the opfor and blufor light attack vehicles, which are beautifully designed, are weaker then the Ifrit and Hunter from regular Arma and is more comparable to the offroad with the 50. cal. Finally, there is a huge variety of new weapons, anything from high end futuristic guns to good old AKs and RPGs. Not to mention the new anti thermal clothing and the thermal headgear.

Campagin - Have yet to play, will update when I'm done with it.

So, as I said, buy Apex. Apex is for everyone, from the people who enjoy life game modes to those who desire to do organized missions, Apex can be enjoyed by everyone. So please, do yourself a favor and buy it!

People are pretty split on this expansion, some say that it is good while some say that it is bad because of either the rubbish campaign or not enough content. I think this expansion is brilliant and here are the reasons why:

Pros:

Map - This map is the most detailed in any Arma game I have ever played, and I've played all the way back to Operation Flashpoint. This is the focal point of the expansion, whilst others like Operation Arrowhead focused on the map, campaign and general content, it lacked true quality in each of those sections, whether people like to believe that or not, there were many reused assets and lazy detailing in a lot of the Takistan map of that expansion.

Tanoa on the other hand is only a third of the size of Altis, but each and every inch of the map is worked on by hand, no lazy generation tools or many reused prefabs, they dedicated their time to make sure the entire map is crafted by hand in great detail. Areas like the jungle are thick and promote tense CQC gameplay, whilst areas like the city have good enterable buildings and long streets to snipe across. There are lots of other areas in the map that allow great and exciting gameplay more so than most if not any other map I have ever played in the entire Arma/Operation Flashpoint series.

Now granted, the map isn't as big as the others considering it is "only" a third of Altis and even Takistan of the Arma 2 expansion, but the detail is much better than either of those maps, which is something most people who review don't take notice of.

Weapons - You got some new guns, nothing really groundbreaking but are still great additions. People use the very ignorant argument of "Mods have already added the AKM, why is this expansion adding it?" which implies that these mods are as detailed as the offering Bohemia Interactive give with the expansion. Here's the truth, as someone who appreciates good detail in this game, especially considering it is a mil-sim that strives to have true to life bullet ballistics and gun functions, this expansion delivers perfectly with the added weapons.

Let's take the AKM as an example, sure mods have added this gun in with good detail, but this expansion adds a much higher quality AKM with proper reload animations, bullet ballistics, textures and sounds. The AKM, unlike some mod version I tired isn't insanely accurate up to 1000m either, which I noticed with a lot of mod weapons.

Other weapons add something new to the game such as the Type 115, this gun is a hybrid of an assault rifle and a .50 caliber rifle, which I find to be pretty ♥♥♥♥ing awesome. The Type 115 is a bullpup assault rifle with a simple switch of fire mode allows you to access the .50 caliber rifle, it takes 10 round mags and is fairly accurate for what it is.

There are other weapons too such as the SPAR and AK12 and even the classic RPG-7.

Vehicles - This expansion adds various vehicles including VTOLs such as the V-44X Blackfish, which is a big awesome ♥♥♥♥ing plane that also allows vehicle-in-vehicle transport, something which works great and adds a new dimension to the game alone. There are other awesome vehicles such as the water scooter of which is fun for novelty scenarios and another VTOL which is named the Y-32 Xi'an. There are more but I want to get into more detail with vehicle-in-vehicle transport.

One of my favourite things I have experienced so far is loading up the VTOL with an armoured car and being dropped out from a high altitude with a parachute slowing the descent, that alone is an awesome feature even if no vehicles were added at all.

Cons:

Campaign - Now here is a weak area of the expansion of which I agree with other reviewers about, the campaign. It is a co-op based campaign so there is no pausing saving or loading, just respawning if you die, it loses the fun and immersion of a single player campaign because of this. The actual missions showcase the map, guns and features well but are pretty boring. Most missions go as "clear this area" to "bomb this thing" and I find it pretty basic, nothing entirely new here. The campaign has a decent story but nothing to grip you and although it is fun in co-op, it is still pretty boring.

Jungle combat is presented well in the campaign and it is tense and exciting, but you can achieve better jungle combat by creating your own mission. The campaign is good if you want to have an excuse to try out combat in Tanoa.

Faction - The new guerrilla faction, the "Syndikat" is a decent but not a heavily interesting faction at all. They are a low tech guerrilla faction that use older weaponry like the AKM, RPG 7 and the AK-12 (the game is set in 2035 incase you forget). The Syndikat are a violent bunch, with all its units held together by a leader names Warlock. To me this sounds pretty basic as a story behind the faction, but it is a cool and suiting addition for the map and campaign and they remind me of the Takistan Militia from Operation Arrowhead, due to their low armoured units and low tech weaponry that they use.

Should you get it?

I personally am really enjoying the expansion, because I like all the possible missions to be created using Tanoa and the vehicle-in-vehicle transport. I also really enjoy the new weapons and I think the new Type 115 is a great addition to the Arma series. There are lots to enjoy here.

Get this expansion if you really enjoy detailed islands which provide all types of new combat experiences, and also enjoy new weaponry and vehicles to go along side that. The map provides lots of new combat environments and the new weapons include old favourites which you may enjoy being added in at great detail.

Don't get this expansion if you were expecting a large and fun single player campaign as well as an interesting story and faction. If you don't care as much about the new map or weapons and prefer expansions to add a good new campaign and lots of new gameplay features to compliment it, then I suggest that you save your money.

Overall, I think this expansion adds greatly to the already fantastic Arma 3 gameplay. This expansion helps expand your missions making possibilities and adds plenty of new and exciting combat environments. But do not expect this expansion to add a great new campaign, think of this expansion as more of a large content pack rather than a new story.

Yes. Apex is a good sized expansion to Arma 3. It's decently priced depending what you're looking to play.

The single-player content like campaign is meh (due to respawn mechanics etc), but assets like Tanoa for multi-player are ok.

Arma 3 is a good game & I have put many hours in to it, So I was looking forward to playing the new Apex DLC but after playing the game the DLC fell flat, There is a few new items, A map, & SP missions. I wanted to give this a good rating but I can't, The Apex DLC should have been included in the Arma 3 DLC Bundle (For $19.99) For what the Devs added to Apex how can they justify a price of $34.99 for DLC that has next to nothing in it, All the other Arma 3 DLC has roughly the same stuff minus the SP missions & a map but that's only $12. There is no way they can justify a $35 price tag for this. I'm completely disappointed!

This was ridiculusly overpriced, there are far too few additions in this game to warrent a $35 price tag.
