I played this a lot years ago, and it's still very enjoyable. It's a pirate simulator with gameplay broken into a series of mini-games. Sailing, sword-fighting, dancing, and sneaking are each individual mini-games, most of them similar to quick time events, and there is a simple system for dealing with food, morale, crew, loot, and all that. There's also a story but it's not very interesting. It's weakness is a lack of depth. You will get tired of it eventually, because it becomes quite repetetive after a while.

I loved the original game on both C64 and Amiga and i'm a big fan of Sid Meier games in general eventhough i do not think he was actually involved in this remake. This version of the game has a bit of looney added to it, but it still works. Like all Sid Meier games, this game also "suffer" from the "just one more turn" effect i.e. if you are a fan, you will loose track of time playing this game. A bit pricey perhaps (currently being sold at €9.99) so i recommend getting it on sale. Keyboard and mouse are the only possible controllers and game resolutions need widescreen support (1280x960 is the highest possible resolution) but that's about the only negative things i can think of but then again, the game is from 2005 so i guess it is excused. All in all, still a good game. Get it on sale.

Really great game! One of the bests if not the best pirate game out there. 9.5/10 because there is no perfect games :)

Definitally recommend it, but watch out because there is no autosaves. So save a couple times while you play (I save every in game year) just in case the game crashes which rarely happens.

Good game, but it gets repetitive fast, so it's better to focus on the main quest.

This is an exciting and interesting game.

That's so inconceivable. I completed the game for many times. But I still want to play it again.

When Sid Meier's Pirates! came out in 2005 it was a great remake and a great game by itself.

However, i cannot recommend it anymore. The graphics are still not too shabby and the game itself is great but you cannot select widescreen resolutions in the menu and so you will end up with a 4:3 windowed game.
Even worse is that the game sometimes has some problems with controls. Numblock won't work then.

I would really like to see the developers adding widescreen resolutions and real Windows 7/8/10 compatibility and a fix for the numpad problem. Up until then the 1987 PIRATES! GOLD will work with less hassle than this game.

Outstanding game. Kind of goofy, very fun. The combat and treasure questing mechanings are reliable and well-crafted, and the dancing mini-game is so effing fun. This is one of my all time fav console games and I appreciate the PC port.

I played this game several times off of disk for years till I found it on Steam. Has a nice variety of game play types, from sailing around, having cannonball fights with pirate ships, capturing towns (small turn based strategy games during captures), romancing the ladies and attending dancing parties to increase your loot, collecting and trading goods, etc. Very well rounded game. I would highly recommend it to any sim lovers out there!

Worth the money. It seems old and boring and simple. But this game... I could play for hours. When I dont have internet I would play this game and have lots of fun. The story line is very long and there is no voice acting but the subtitles are fine. Not a lot of reading just gameplay/

A strong plot, decent graphics, and plenty to do. If you can get used to the complex interface, there's plenty to do - though it may get repetitive eventually.

Take my starting ship and do battle with the Spanish Galleons. 8 cannons vs 40 cannons.
First 10 minutes of the game and you have one of the biggest ships in the game, dance with the governor's daughter, own your own estate and declare war on the whole Spanish empire.

A full game purely for the 'Pirate' genre. Not some half ♥♥♥♥♥ wannabe.
If you're not happy with any ships, pick a fight with them. Not happy because a port merchant ripped you off during trading goods, bombard the port and take it over. Governor doesn't want to let you see his daughter, control the port and change the governor. Unsatisfied because a country sunk your ship? No problem there, wipe their country off the map by conquering all their ports.

This is a game where skills can beat brute strenght. Wind, ship size, upgrades, tactics and rum is all that matters. Arrrrr!

One of the best, if not THE best pirate games of all time.
