Starfall Prophecy: Gedlo Badlands

Not much good comes out of the Gedlo Badlands. Of course "bad" is a judgment call. A Telaran would find a certain beauty to the sharp ridges of rock and shifting beds of fine gravel, particularly at dawn or dusk when their brown and black tones are enriched with gold and red. But to the devils that now rule the Plane of Fire, this desert expanse is fit only for goblins.

The land is almost barren, and harsh. No soft and nourishing forests, no comforting leafy shade. You'll be glad to hear that there are no rivers of lava, raging wildfires or burning atmosphere either. If the liquid pools of the caustic oasis were water instead of clear, flammable oil, it might actually be habitable for someone other than an Ascended or the cruel denizens of the Plane of Fire.

While mortals would find the badlands arid and hot, the goblins of the Gedlo Conclave consider it an exile in the freezing wastes, denied their rightful place among the burning fields of condemned souls that they covet. Only the kobolds of Saint Taranis deigned to travel to this desert wasteland, and then only for the yearly pilgrimage to wage holy war.

The goblins have been in the badlands since time immemorial and are hard at work, single-mindedly simmering with rage and thoughts of revenge against all who wronged them. The devils of Ashenfell, the mortals of Telara, and most especially the noble kobolds of Saint Taranis. The Ascended must discover what the Goblin horde is up to; rumors of a stolen prophecy of Ananke, and the plans to destroy Saint Taranis are about to hatch, now that the kobolds are trapped on the comet with them.

The goblins are centered an area known as Gedlonia, and some say they have closely guarded drake hatching grounds nearby. The most bloodthirsty among them rove about the land in war bands and attack the kobolds whenever they can; revenge for the many years of defeat at the hands of the dog-like warriors.

The Kobolds of Saint Taranis, on the other hand, are a noble, if similarly warlike faction, devoted to earning honor and redemption that the souls of their ancestors failed to find in the mortal realm. Taranis, a kobold that ascended to sainthood, has shown them the way. Each year they make pilgrimage to these badlands as a test of their prowess and courage. If they can stand against the horde of goblins with artistry, courage and nobility, then they too may just find redemption. Each year they made this pilgrimage to defeat the Gedlo Conclave and each year they returned home victorious. It was their unwelcome fate that Ahnket tore their battlefield from the Plane of Fire while their temporary holy city was erected in the badlands. Now the prospect of victory and redemption grows fainter as the goblins lay siege, and faith is shaken in the various camps of artists.

The leader of Saint Taranis is the kobold monk Veist, who has struggled to hold the various camps together and inspire them to face the horde of goblins in what might be an unwinnable battle. He knows that noble warriors respect action more than mere words, so he has embarked on a quest to find a champion or two among the strange lands from distant planes that have been taken by the Comet of Ahnket. It is this quest that brings him in contact with the Ascended of Telara and the Champion of the Vigil, Cyril Kalmar, who has too long been temple bound.

Together, these mighty warriors will help the Ascended in learning more about the Gedlo goblins, the monstrous denizens of the badlands and the Devil Lords of Ashenfell who plan to unleash a fiery apocalypse upon the world of Telara. Best prepare yourself well first, in knowledge and armament. The Gedlo Badlands is a crucible for the heroic spirit, and is part of RIFT: Starfall Prophecy, coming this fall!

I have played this game extensively off steam, I was in the guild that got server first for the majority of the raids and then the game stopped working for me so I stopped playing.

I kept coming back every few months with the game still not working until I stopped coming back.

Now I have come back again, the level cap has increased by 15 levels since I first started to have issues, there are 2 new continents and lots of major new content.

My story isn't unique and a lot of players quit simply because they were locked out of the game due to instability.

However.

This is one of the best MMO's I have ever played, graphically and game play. The multi class system just worked, and even the limited PVP is fast paced and varied.

Yes there is a massive gear gap, but it is so easy to fill that gap with near top tier items and take part in high level content.

It's not hard to get to level cap, but it is hard to max out all your skills and it can be a very large grind. However the dungeons are a lot of fun, and very repeatable.

In a game where anyone can heal/tank/dps well enough in most situations and that balance is there that you can make some crazy characters that just work. This is a game that excels.

Try it. It's free. It's not pay to win, but it is pay to advance faster. But top gear is behind skill/level walls in dungeons and raids as it should be.

Even with the long history of instability, this seems to be behind it now, it has some of the best options for compatability in a game I have ever seen. Hat's off to Trion for finally catching up in that respect, but being ahead of the curve on so many game aspects.

A lot of people on here hate the company so are flooding the game with bad reviews. Rift is a solid game with a lot of potential still. The people throwing out accusations that the game is PTW are mostly from F2P players upset that the new expansion is paid to be honest. Either way the game is still f2p for the vast majority of content. If you want to find out whether the game is any good, give it a shot.

Team Killing
Help. Everytime someone gives me an awp by accident and I refuse to give back they team kill me. They expect to win the round with an awp and a dead teammate from the start. What kind of logic is that? And then they blame me for dying! This team killing for taking weapons has to stop. Its not right , messes up rounds, and is bullying. I serious guys. This has to stop.

Never thought a mmo could be so intriguing and enjoyable, but Rift is definitely that. With all the quest you can take on, it's definitely worth the time :D

Still good for some casual fun, but a ghost town and shadow of its former self. The 'community' is long gone, torn apart by various hamfisted cash grabs that systematically destroyed guilds and made PvP a joke (the upcoming expansion is looking to be another nail in the coffin). "Free" for awhile (expect Patron status to be shoved down your throat every step of the way though, even as far as opening a browser window to advertise it when closing the game), but no-endgame-for-you unless you pay up for the not-so-subtly-better Souls and Class, blatantly paywalled earring slot, and mind-numbing, soul-sucking grinds that can be instantly circumvented with cash.

If you're in it for some fishing, artifact hunting, Rift closing, wardrobe building, and dimension decorating, it's alright.

so, rift. my very first MMO. when i started playing i fell in love with it. was such a good game, all the specs and classes were completely somewhat balanced, pvp was fun-ish(not a pvp fan honestly) and pve was the best thing i've ever found. i played a rogue and ended up becoming a world first member of the fires of heaven. sadly the game has declined and declined and declined. plane touch wilds was an "ok" "expansion" if you were to call it that. and primalist is dumb. 1 button top dps is very very "pay to win" as people would say. and then the nerf to mind of madness came. nothing was challenging. nothing was fun. and now there is a expansion that MUST be bought in order to play. rift is officially dead.
uninstalled.

P2W (locked equipment even if you are a subscriber) ,dead but with enough fanboys to make it look like people still play it.They should add a pay to uninstall option to make the pack complete.

well i agreed with all negative reviews that you can see here..
Rift used to be my fav before and Ive spent a lot of money on it (im obsessed with character customization)..
but by time, the in-game currency is not enough for you to enjoy the game, which you HAVE TO pay a bit using real money to keep yourself 'comfortable' along your journey..
so that you wont be the weakest person in that game especially if you are in the PVP zone, and someone who is "richer" than you can kill you easily using their more "expensive" weapons and stuff

however i really love this game back on those ol'days.. the gameplay, the way you customize your character, the mounts, the dungeons, good fps and graphic even on my lowest spec pc, the parade (on certain events only)...
oh yeah you have to pay a bit to get a good mounts so you can move a bit faster.. the expensive mounts, the faster you can move..

TBH, Rift SHOULD NOT be free-to-play game at first place. They should sell the game like ESO or GW2 and we pay to play the game. So that these terrible things can be avoided.

p/s: rn im spending my money on TESO (on character of course) :D

I would just like to say this game this to be amazing i use to love this game played if alot in 2012. The game was fun. fairly simple and intresting to see how different i was to other mmorpg's

Coming back and trying it again.... this game is very lacking

I check the game is free now pretty cool, micro transaction, uhhhh not a big fan of that but sure but playing this game for a while. i felt like this game is just pay to win or grind really hard i know you would be expected to grind in mmo rpgs but this is like 2X the grinding to the old rift and i just wanna play some dungeons do some rifts meet some new people. Now most of the time its just grind.

Don't waste your precious money for Starfall Prophecy DLC. It's not worth the price. There are a lot of great games to be worth spending on or just save it. Don't be a victim of Hype.
