About This Game

Ladra is a stealth action adventure that tests your abilities as the ultimate thief.

Estella lost her family at an early age due to war and disease. She escapes her foster parents only to stumble upon an old man that shelters her. He passes on his skills to her which she now uses to sneak around Brumine. Through the capital's dark streets she makes her way past guards stealing what she can grasp. After finding out the King's intention to start a war she decides to put her expertise to a better use.

Estella doesn't kill or incapacitates her enemies. Instead she uses the shadows, her speed and intelligence to always be one step ahead. With a keen eye she uses secret passages and tunnels to stay out of sight. With help from her friend Tonan, they'll do everything they can to put an end to the King's plan.

Fun, simple and quick. Maybe a bit too quick of a game but still good for its price. A bit challenging and frustrating at times but definitely one of the better RPG Maker games.

9/10.

I don't like vagueness of this game. Sometimes the guards notice you, and sometimes not. Sometimes key "Q" do not work. And sometimes even saved game can disappear. So this is the annoying bugs. But the graphics is cute.

Не понравилось то, что есть глюки и неопределенность. Иногда стражники замечают, а иногда нет, при одинаковых условиях. Иногда не работает кнопка "Q".

Short but nice experience (~2 hrs). Very much a light Thief-inspired game. detection range of enemies are vague but easy enough to work around. I appriciate the quick reload because getting caught will happen (especially around dogs). I only wish there was better navigation on the larger maps and would appriciate a way to replay chapters without going through the story again. I enjoyed the snow camp level the most.

I cannot progress at all in this game, due to a bug in the very beginning of the game where a guard that previously moved around, stops in the middle of the room after getting the main tressure. I mean, I don't know what I expected from a game I got for $0.59, but I hope it gets fixed, this looks interesting enough. ;)

A quick FYI: you can use fullscreen by clicking on the icon on the top left of the window (the games icon) and then going into properties and selecting "Full Screen" (duh) then restarting the game

Okay, The review

TL;DR
It's great. Buy it on sale, you'll enjoy it.

BUGS:

All bugs that were here before have been fixed, good enough for me now.

GAMEPLAY:

Gameplay is r8 8/8 m8

but in all seriousness. It's fun, intuitive, and (for a 2D game) very well thought out.

While in the darkness you can't just walk right on by some idiot. You have to pay attention and plan your route both as you go, and before you start.
Very interesting and something I haven't seen before in an RPGMaker game, was how they actually had crouching work fairly well in a 2D game.

GRAPHICS:

It's a retro indie game, so i won't judge its graphics to harshly, but personally i enjoy it.

OVERALL:

8/10 It's pretty great, although not necessarily perfect.

Fun little old school zelda-rpg like stealth game.

-So far mostly hide in shadows/stealth.
-Graphics are basic but decent.
-Lots of save points (basically each room)
-Gamepad support, although had a couple small issues.
-Reasonably priced.
Only downside is that it plays in a small screen window.

Ever play a game in the "Thief" series? This is what you get when someone decides to make a Thief game with RPG Maker and it's a fun experience.

No combat, just sneaking through shadows, crouching behind counters and fences, hiding in crates and closets while observing the guards patrol patterns and waiting for the right opening to make your move. Get spotted even once and you have to restart from the last checkpoint but since every room you enter is a checkpoint this is not an issue and the game maintains a quick pace.

Graphically, other than the main character's sprite, the game seems to use default RPG maker assets. If you ever played an RPG Maker game you know how this looks and controls. Nonetheless visual design is clean. Everything is laid out well, for the most part it's clear where you can hide and important details like treasures to pick up or entrances to secret passages are clearly visible. There is also a minimal but decent story about the character trying to sabotage war preparations, it does the job providing some context on the missions and the character's motivations.

On the negative side there are odd spelling errors here and there. Controls are solid but they have some quirks that could have been ironed out (my main gripe is how you have to be completely still to crouch or get up from the crouching position) and early on it requires some trial and error to figure out how the enemies field of vision works. Also keep in mind the game is extremely linear, each room/screen has one solution/route you have to figure out so it's best to get into it knowing each mission is a series of connected stealth/timing puzzles rather than expecting an "open" stealth game.

In conclusion this is a neat little indie title well worht it's full (low) prize. If you're a fan of stealth games and don't specifically dislike RPG Maker games this should earn a cozy spot in your wishlist and hopefully your library. Heartily recommended.

Yes another RPG Maker game...

Here is my quick look video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AieoBV7On-4

But this one is pretty well done and has the unique aspect of trying to use stealth and shadows to sneak through halls and rooms unseen. It's actually quite fun and makes it feel and play a little different then all of the other RPG Maker games I've played.

There are a few mis-spelled words now and then, but it doesn't detract much from the game. My biggest gripe in the time I've played the game so far is that the escape key doesn't work at all, and I was forced to CTRL-ALT-DEL to manually abort the game. The game saves automatically, but still the ESC key should work as a method of escaping the game.

These are pretty minor gripes, and I think people who enjoy these classic RPG style games will be very happy with this entry on Steam, especially at it's low price point of $3.99 USD. Catch this game on sale, and it's even a better value.

If you are the type that doesn't usually enjoy these kind of RPG Maker games, then the unique steath aspect of the game will not likely make it fun for you, so I'd caution against buying it just for that aspect alone.

Grading this game on what I've played of the game.. I'd give it a 7 out of a possible 10. Recommended for people who enjoy these classic RPG sort of games, and not recommended for people who enjoy fancier/pretty RPGs or more action oriented games.

Introduction
Ladra is a stealth action adventure that tests your abilities as the ultimate thief. Find secret passages and tunnels to stay out of sight. Use the shadows, your speed and intelligence to always be one step ahead.

Points of interest
  • +Gameplay is very unique for an RPG maker game

  • +Stealth mechanics are well made, but hard to master

  • +The price is right! A fantastic buy for $4 or on sale

  • -Currently, no achievments or trading cards. This may turn some people off to the game, but then again, they may add these features in the future.

  • -This game definetly requires a certain taste to play. If you enjoy traditional RPGs, then you will have a blast with this game. If not, I would be careful when buying this.

In summary...
A great buy at regular price or on sale. Perfect game for traditional RPG fans, but not quite ideal for those who dislike these types of games. Well made game with very interesting stealth mechanics, a worthy buy!
I would give this game a 7 out of 10
