1.04 patch notes

Day of the Tentacle Remastered has been updated today with a mixture of bug fixes and requested features!

We looked at the highest rated issues on our support site, and tried to address everything we agreed would be great to have fixed or added. We ‘re happy to report that along with numerous fixes, we were able to address requests such as adding more save slots to Maniac Mansion, and adding in the classic compressed sound effects as an alternate sound option.

Unless major issues are discovered, this will be the final update for DOTT Remastered, allowing the team to move on to work on Full Throttle Remastered! (other than the Linux version which is coming soon!)

  • Maniac Mansion - added multiple save slots and support for saving anywhere (except during cutscenes).
  • Audio - added a setting to toggle between remastered and classic sound effects

  • Accessibility - added a command line flag "--UIModeAccessibility" that turns on some extra UI controls to remove need for keyboard input in some situations.
  • Audio - fixed "FIRE!!!" voice over line not playing if subtitles are turned off.

  • Audio - fixed a classic game bug where Bernard would say one of Laverne's lines in the Lobby in a specific situation.

  • Controls - added the ability to skip dialog lines by tapping on the screen when using touch controls. This is only available for touch screen PCs.

  • Controls - added a way to trigger object highlight using touch. Hold two fingers on the screen to use. This is only available for touch screen PCs.
  • UI - added touch UI for opening the pause menu in DoTT verb bar mode and in Maniac Mansion. This only appears when using touch controls.
  • UI - fixed a bug in verb dial mode where a certain inventory object's morph animation didn't play correctly during a certain puzzle.
  • Settings - fixed a bug where the fullscreen setting wouldn't save properly for some players.

  • OSX - touch pad taps now register as clicks.

  • OSX - clarified the controls help text to indicate you may need to press Fn+F1 to toggle render modes.

About This Game

Dr. Fred’s mutated purple tentacle is about to take over the world, and only you can stop him!

Originally released by LucasArts in 1993 as a sequel to Ron Gilbert’s ground breaking Maniac Mansion, Day of the Tentacle is a mind-bending, time travel, cartoon puzzle adventure game in which three unlikely friends work together to prevent an evil mutated purple tentacle from taking over the world!

Now, over twenty years later, Day of the Tentacle is back in a remastered edition that features all new hand-drawn, high resolution artwork, with remastered audio, music and sound effects (which the original 90s marketing blurb described as ‘zany!’).

Players are able to switch back and forth between classic and remastered modes, and mix and match audio, graphics and user interface to their heart’s desire. We’ve also included a concept art browser, and recorded a commentary track with the game’s original creators Tim Schafer, Dave Grossman, Larry Ahern, Peter Chan, Peter McConnell and Clint Bajakian.

Day of the Tentacle was Tim Schafer’s first game as co-project lead, and a much beloved cult classic! This special edition has been lovingly restored and remade with the care and attention that can only come from involving the game's original creators.

Never got a chance to play the original but picked this up in the last summer sale and at first I wasn't fond of it but it grew on me as I love point and click adventures, I just love the humour, The art was very well done and the music was top notch. If you're a fan of Adventure games then I'd reccomend you give this a shot.

"Day of the Tentacle Remastered" is a very nice updating of a fine point & click adventure game. It's a good game with some decent humor. The only issue I had with it is that it didn't give me the last Achievement I needed for a 100% Achievement rate (even though I did it correctly): Music Appreciation Award. I had to do a fast run-through (about an hour and a half) to finally get it. But, other than that, everthing was great. It took me a bit over 9 hours for my first run-through. So, I'd say to wait for it to be priced at $9.99 or less to buy it. Recommended.

Played this game for the first time after hearing it hailed as a classic, and it deserves it -- it holds up fantastically. From the very start it's designed to get you comfortable with all the mechanics and solving away. While the solutions to puzzles may not always make the most sense, they are all hilarious. Don't read a walkthrough without trying everything first! It's worth it for the gags.

Also, unlike other 'remastered' games, this one is a REAL remastering. All the animations and backgrounds seemed to be redrawn manually to really capture the cartoony spirit. And as usual for LucasArts, the characters and voice acting are top notch. The quintessential nerd, easygoing roadie, and unhinged medical student make a great cast for this time travel adventure.

An absolute classic. Of absurd proportions. A hearty virtual 'high five' to anyone that solves all the puzzles in the game without resorting to a guide! One of the best 90s point and click adventures produced

Awesome! Just awesome! I felt like I was back in the 90s playing the game on my 386sx. The transition between the old and new game is really amazing - it really shows the technology gap between the centuries. They did a really good job remastering the game, everything got just better. So this is a perfect example of the well done job and the well spent money.

This had been one of the earliest games I remember playing, so seeing a remastered version definitely persuaded me to replay it.

10/10. DoTT is an amazing point and click adventure game with great story, humor, and artistic style.

I'm really hoping to see a remastered version of "Sam and Max Hit the Road". Lucas Arts games are all guaranteed to be top quality.

I have very fond memories about Day of the Tentacle (DotT), back in the DOS days, Lucasarts was my favourite games company, their adventures were the best and their Star Wars games are pretty legendary in their own right. DotT is one of those games that was released when PC gained its status as superiour gaming platform. All previous adventures games still got released on multiple platforms (think Amiga etc), but not this one. It was also released on CDROM and the whole game features voice acting, pretty big deal back in the day.

And so, with rose tinted glasses I started playing this game, would it still be as good as I remembered it? Or would it turn out to be one of those classics that didn't age well, like a fine wine turning into vinegar. Well I can assure you, that none of the magic is lost. The game is still very much fun today, everything still stands, it only lost some of its freshness, but that was to be expected as it's a remaster that stays 100% faithfull to the original.

I'm also very happy that they did not change any of the graphics. When I learned that the Monkey Island series were rereleased, I was excited. Until I saw it at a friend of mine, that is when disappointment set in. They changed the graphics and the new graphics just didn't do it for me, in fact they were a big turn-off. If you never played the game before, you probably would have no issue with it, but the problem for me was that they changed too much. You could still play the original graphics, but what is the point of that? You could just as easily use ScummVM then.
This is not the case with DotT, the graphics have been retained. To be honest, the graphics had been retained as how I remembered them. There is a big difference, how we remember things is not how they really were, it's just our minds that make the memory more beautiful than it really is. In this case the remastered graphics just look like the originals with 100x Anti-Aliasing applied on them.

I was able to quickly finish the game as I still remembered a lot and the things i forgot were quickly figured out. You should not read any guides, as this will increase the enjoyment of an adventure game, the whole point is to figure these things out after all.

This game had a big impact on me as a youngster, I forgot how many things in the game I picked up in my vocabulairy and still use, though i completely forgot where they came from - this game!

Take this as you will, some guy has fond memories of an old game, the remastered version of said game is also liked by him. Does this mean it's a great game or that the guy is senile? That's up for you to decide when you're GOING BACK TO THE MANSION!

The game works flawlessly on SteamOS/Linux, the default Steam Controller setup is a bit weird, but ofcourse you can change it to your liking. Streams to the Steam Link without problems (great way to play the game btw).

I played this game in the 90s when I was budding gamer, and I have fond memories. I grabbed this game for $8.99 the other day basically for nostalgia. I wasn't sure if I'd actually like the game again - would I find it too silly? too easy? plain boring? BUT, it is actually a fun little puzzle game. I was cruising along for a while, half playing the game and half strolling down memory lane, and then I actually got stuck. I'll admit I've had to use google a couple times. Some of the puzzles actually make you think. My advice: click on EVERYTHING. Pick up ALL objects. Listen to what the people are saying - they often drop hints. Go back and re-explore areas - it's easy to overlook something that you thought was meaningless. As for the remaster side of things - it's perfect. The new graphics are how I remember the game looking back when graphics weren't superduperHD. The new controls are simple and easy, and the new sound is good.

All in all, this is a good remaster of a classic game. If you played this game in the 90s, I *definitely* recommend getting this.

This game was the first game I;ve ever played in my life.

I used to go to my best friend house back in the day, we were just kids, and so, he had 3 games, Fury 3, Barbie modeling (his sister game) and DOTT.

Back then we didn't know any English at all, still that didnt stop us to play this masterpiece.

The feeling of solving a puzzle was something I cannot erase from my memories. I actually remember pretty well when we solved the left hand statue puzzle, we were happy as ♥♥♥♥.

I remember how badly we wanted to get Laverne out of the three, sadly we never ended the game due to being so difficult and the lack of language.

In 2010, I solved the game by myself with the ScummVM Version, I felt so good beating the game without any guide or similar, took me a week, but it was totally worth it.

And now 2016, the Remastered version was released.'

Insta buy for me.

10/10, One of the best games of the gold era of adventure games, when devs got inpired and let their imagination flow into their creations. (nowadays its all copy of the copy of the copy aka: Cod)

A must have in your steam collection.

I played monkey island
I played grim fandango
I played full throttle
I played dig
I loved them for what they were, humourous, intuitive and the very first reasons I saw videogames as art
I never played this however, not at the time, but my god is it everything I hoped it would be.
Part of a long line of classic point and click adventure games.
This is one I can finally say I have played
And I absolutely love it.
