About This Game

Spakoyno is a Russian visual novel set in the late USSR. This is a story of an average Russian guy named Kirill. The characters are left at the borderline conflict of old and new society. High crime rates, corruption and a change of morals… Can he survive the new society?

The brother of the protagonist has gone into criminal underground and the father spends all his time at work and can't protect his sons. Militsiya doesn't do anything about local criminal groups. Kirill is left alone… Everyone is against him: Kirill doesn't favor neither patriots, nor bandits or soviet conservatives. He wishes for peace in our world, so he decides to struggle.

Relatively short visual novel that initially tries to impose a serious look, then completely derails itself by invoking things such as counting a car crash followed by a main character's relative jumping out a window to kill himself as an assassination attempt or time travel shenaningans simply because vodka is too ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ expensive. The story is lacking, None of the endings are well fleshed out, but the game is still good for a laugh as the protagonist gets beat up every five minutes.

tl;dr I have no idea how this game exists, nothing makes sense.

So I came in to this game without having a lot of expectations (even thought it costs 8$) . So I launched the game and saw...Russian, thankfully it was easy to find the language change button, just click the huge russian flag. But I still didn't know what was to come.

You see, when you wish to make a game that is story driven you mainly face 1 problem. That being having a story. No need to say that this games fails big time having one. For example there was one time that I snitched my brother to my father for spending all the money on beer, then my brother pops-up and punches me in the face and my character passes out. In the next scene my character is thinking "I won't betray my brother to father".

Story: 0/10
Stuff happened and then more stuff happened and then it ended

Characters: 1/10
All the characters are random. The relationships between the characters are random. The only character that stays true is the protagonist, his trait is to get punched in the face

Music: 10/10?
There were some russian stuff? I guess that's good?

Enjoyment: 0/10
It was bad. Trust me

Would I play it again? No
Should you play it? No

An interesting VN. The story is a bit cofusing in parts due to re-use of assets and translation difficulties, but the events are supposed to be somewhat confusing for the main character as well. Perhaps too short for the price, but I definitely enjoyed it as a foreign indie title. It introduces lots of interesting characters and sci-fi elements, but doesn't get around to resolving much. Feels like it is just the first episode of a much longer story. Still, a good walking around and getting beat up simulator.

DAFAQ did I just read?

Pro's:
The newsreport about the fall of the USSR ("revolutionists must die... oh they won? Long live our glorious liberators!"

Con's:
Everything else. Girl you just met turns neigbour you date in the next scene, apparently is someone else's gf (but looks totally different at that point). Father dies, his murderers gets blown up and thus he returns to power (wtf???) Don't even get started on the time-travelling in the end bit. There's literally no sense at all to find here.

PS. Don't tell Empror (yes, Empror) Putin to ♥♥♥♥ off... Also every single resolution of the story ends up with the protagonist dying, even if he survived about 200 beatups throughout the game (seriously, try reading 5 minutes without the screen going red and a huge fist appearing).

Worst VN ever.

To me it looks as if a twelve year old wrote the plot. The character's reaction to events are just implausible. There are a lot of things that don't go anywhere and others that you feel wouldn't that much matter in the given situation but they do. Sometimes you might get the feeling, that this could ment to be ironic or just some sort of satire. But you are never sure about that either.

It's just sad.

Absolutely Terrible. I've played bad visual novels, but I've never played a visual novel THIS bad. 1st off: the game frequently dips to 5 fps on my GTX 970. It's not a big deal in this type of game, but I really think it sets the stage for what's to come. Sometimes you'll be playing, and you'll only get a black screen in the background, with an error message saying "image 'e6-7' not found." while the dialogue goes on like nothing happened. Honestly it's hillarious. Who knew that you could screw up a visual novel this bad?

So how's the art, when you can actually see it? Terrible. What you're seeing on the store page is the best this game has to offer. You don't wanna see the worst it has to offer.

How's the writing? It's riddled with typos, and things that just flat out don't make sense. As for the story itself, things just sort of happen. It's not even in the "it's so bad it's good" category. It's just bad.

Don't waste your money on this game. It's not funny, it's not smart, and it sure as hell isn't competent. This game is worse than (and I don't say this lightly) 100 september 11ths.

I really wanted to like this game. After having played Russian Horror Story which I quite enjoyed made by the same developers, I had hopes this could be equally as good if not better. The subject matter and period of turbulent transitional history are a story that isn't greatly told to Western audiences. This could have been a great way to allow people to explore these events. With much potential comes much regret for buying this game unfortunately.

The stories that unfold are very short, uninteresting, contains uninteresting characters, and barely has much dialogue at all. The art style is appealing to me at least. The few pieces of music featured are ok and somewhat catchy. The biggest most glaring complaint comes with the fact that the game is missing entire images, which leave you staring into totally blank scenes, displaying only the text box and a "missing img error" displayed.

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=625344827

This comes after very many delays with the release. Not sure how this passed off as a completed game at all. I couldn't even tell I had finished one of the stories, since it displayed no end credits or mention whatsoever. Instead just recycling me back to the start leaving me confused.

Could not recommend this at all. All around this feels like a bit of a lazy effort. Doesn't contain any of the charm as with their previous game. Leaves me with a rather bitter taste after having bought it on release now. If you must have it wait for a bare minimal sale.

Worst visual novel you will ever play!! terrible background pictures that dont even fit the setting at times, the story is just terrible. A bully gets you and you always get punch my him.

Pros
change the language from Russian to English
Multiple Endings

Cons
- Very low resolution background images (most pictures seems like the were copied off of the internet!)
- The story isn't all that interesting
- images seems to be missing at some parts
- The game launches in Russian

Weirdest VN I’ve ever played, and not in a good way. I got this because I saw Doc Brown and because I like to give a chance to VNs from various countries. And well, it’s bad. But to be really honest, I’ve played worst games? So it’s bad, but not atrocious… I guess. The plot is weak and doesn’t make much sense, the art style is bad, BGs were more or less, BGM was annoying sometimes. The characters felt plain, there’s no development. Also those bears floating on balloons on the menu screen creeped me out, I don’t know why.

3/10.
