What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Dungeons & Robots early access is intended to provide an opportunity to the community to play the game now, and provide critical thoughts and insights on ways to enhance the user experience. We hope to receive actionable feedback as we continue to actively develop the game. Because multiplayer is such a critical component of the user experience, it will be very helpful to us to monitor a broad user base and identify issues that need immediate attention. Dungeons & Robots is expected to have issues, so if you are not interested in participating in the feedback loop, or you feel you will be annoyed that the experience is not yet perfect, we recommend you purchase the game at a later date.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The game has been in development for almost 2 years. We are a dedicated group and intend to continue devoting our energy to make this an incredible user experience. We hope that we will be able to complete the development to our original vision, include feedback from the community and exit early access within one year.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“For the full version we hope to add;

- Two additional dungeon levels,
- Additional characters, weapons, armours and enemies,
- PVP mode, 1 vs.1, 4 vs. 4, and free arena.
- Auction House.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current build is fairly stable with the first dungeon content complete, providing hours of exciting gameplay. We hope to quickly identify any balancing, matchmaking or networking issues and address them.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We intend to raise the price of the game as we add additional content and features.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We intend to be actively engaged on the message boards and forums, "listen' and address critical user feedback as well as explore implementing community suggestions and ideas.”

With no where to run, their only option is a distant space colony, Planet TSI-5, where darkness is tangible and the unknown permeates the air.

Upon their arrival, the colonists survey this foreign territory and stumble upon mineral in crystal form. After further examination it becomes evident this is no ordinary crystal. Much time is spent studying and experimenting with this mineral, and eventually the composition of the crystals is decoded, revealing the incredible powers imbued within them. The researchers continue to explore the most effective methods of extracting various energies from these crystals and their many applications.

They name it Pure Crystal, a rather simple name for something retaining powers never witnessed before by the human race; the power of opening portals to parallel universes.

It becomes obvious that Pure Crystal is the key to survival, and a resource worthy waging war over. The colonist engineer a clan of powerful robots whose task is to hunt the nearby planets for large deposits of Pure Crystal. After an exhaustive search, a planet is discovered with an abundance of Pure Crystal deposits. However, the residents of that planet are well prepared to defend against invaders who want to plunder their valuable mineral. You are one of the robots, and are now tasked to secure and deliver this Pure Crystal back to TSI-5.

Make a Guild, fight a war, and bring it home. it is the sole purpose of your creation.

It is Early Access, not a full release game, so keep an open-mind. The Devs are very open to suggestions and do talk and respond to the community which is a very good sign. They want there game to be successful and the community want it to be as well.

This game has protential but ofc it does have somethings missing that they are going to add.

You can play solo or co-op, it is possible to solo every difficulty in this game, which is a good thing.
It is fun playing solo and it always being random, it never gets boring. Atm there are only Two Dungeons, but they have different enemys, they are going to be adding more Dungeons which is nice to hear, But! you can't pick which Dungeon you want to go to, so its random on which one you get, hopefully they change that for a Map that you can choose which Dungeon you want to go to, since i prefer the Scifi one.

Loot, is very important to a RPG, There are three different types of armor that have their own Special ability.
Heavy Tanky Armor, Light DPS Armor, Support Armor.
Their are different weapons as well;
Flamerthrower, Minigun, Ray Gun, Energy Missile, Health Gun, Energy Gun and More.

Armors are not to bad since they have there own Special abilities to define your playstyle, there are not Set Gear to create more playstyle differences but hopefully they add that.

Weapons well...a lot of them are very weak, the only two guns that are powerful in my opinion are Minigun and Ray Gun.
Could be wrong but thats what i have found from playing, it does mean that using other weapons seem pointless but they have said they are going to add Legendary Weapons that do give a Unique feel and a reason to change your weapon playstyle up, so hopefully weapon balancing will get better.

The one complain i have is that, when completing or doing a dungeon, you don't get a lot out of it but crystals which you use for crafting which seems to be the main focus of the game for loot progression atm, but doing the dungeons you have a rare chance coming across an item or any rarity, but its a very rare chance and killing all these Mobs, i just wish sometimes they had a chance to drop loot or make it more common to find loot on the floor but base it of there rarity, they can fix that and maybe get a poll going on what the community want.

The Passive Skill system, is ok, does add away to create your build and playstyle but i feel they could add something on top of it, to add more depth to your character, maybe something that could sync with what weapon you are using, idk but its better than nothing.

You can create a guild but i haven't gone into that, that much but its still a nice feature.
Plus has a leaderboard feature as well as a season thing going as well, don't really think much of it but its a nice feature.

Overall its A thumbs up for me, If you Like Scifi, RPG, Robot/mech, Action, Shooting game, give it a try ofc with many games its more fun to play with friends, but you can enjoy it solo as well :)

I will update this as the game continues to Develops, so if you prefer to wait thats ok.

Please note this is Early Access and the Developers are looking for help. I also got it on sale for a great price. It didn't run at all using my old Thinkpad. I got a hold of the Developers and sent them the error logs. They were very, very helpful. The latest update fixed the problem. It scales down to an old machine yet still looks gorgeous. I am getting around 20fps (very playable). Looking forward to playing it on my "Console" PC in 1080p.

If you like TRON, Sci-Fi, and D&D, this is a great game. It is a lot of fun and has great protential for both solo play and online multiplayer.

I'll continue to play and help make this game a success.

Best way to describe it is early access to alpha build. The core is there, just needs more content and polishing on the basics. No its not balanced or super populated but the potential is there.

A mix between bullet hell and isometric arpg.

Right now, it's a fun and pretty time killer with an awesome synthy soundtrack. It definitely fits the mood. Not a lot to do and a bit repetitive but I've seen higher profile EA titles with as much to offer if not less.

You can tell it is EA. If the controller options get fixed (shoot forward, where I am facing, as default) and if they make it so that you simply die when you get stuck in turret holes (or so that you don't get stuck in turret holes) rather than have to suicide then this will be a good title. There's a suicide option in game in case of bugs which is good for an EA game. When that option in unecessary it will be a good sign.

The customization / leveling options are cool and I'm intrigued to see where that goes. A lot of diversity on that front. Character customization is my favorite feature of video games so this one has my number with that.

To be honest I like this game! I love the idea of mechs and dungeons and the graphics look good. Now there are plenty of problems with the game but seeing how its in the early stages, I cant really blame them. I think that as the game ages and the devs spend more and more time on fixing and upgrading it, dungeons and Robots will end up being a fantastic game!

Also a few things I would change with the game is I would get rid of the multi floors in the dungeon. The floors make the game feel less like a dungeon and more like a Temple Run. Combine the floors! Make it a dungeon instead of a system of halls. Then maybe make multiple floors of diverse dungeons. that would be cool. And maybe make each floor have a seperate challenge. That might be interesting idk.
Speaking of challenges! The challenges are impossible. Like I have never seen a blue cyrstal drop. Only pure crystals! So that challenge is useless for me. What you can do is probably make a slaying challenge, like slay 5 mechs or something. Or you could just actually put blue crystals in the dungeon so I can actually find 4 of them. And also the "dont die" challenge. Very possible until you reach the final boss of the dungeon! Which leads me to my next change!
Dont make the final boss of the dungeon so over powered! He has missles which can very easily destroy you with a few hits and he also has mini guns. The mini guns are suppose to be an aimed gun but the enemies mini guns seem to stick right on you. And also the dozen or so turrents in the room with the boss is a bit much dont you think? I can even complete the "dont die" challenge not because I lack the skill, but because there is no skill possible to live that long in the same room as the final mech.

But anyways this game is pretty fun and I look forward to updates and everything. I do recommend this game but not for $8.99 at this current stage.

quite laggy for what it is. Clunky controlls, camara rotation should be automatic,,, The game itself feels,,,, weird. the camera angle also is terrible in my opinion. This game should be a top view twin stick shooter instead of what it is. A good example of it is NEON CHROME. For me its a f... blast that game. ill recomend to do something like that, otherwise this game is going nowhere. Ive played a ♥♥♥♥ load of games, and I can see if a game is good in less than 5m, and for this it took less than 1 pretty much. The idea is good, but the implementation is terrible

I'm a big fan of Early Access games. You get to experience the journey of development as the game progresses and as new features get implemented it is like receiving regular gifts.

I've just had to use Task Manager to quit out of Dungeons & Robots 5-10 times in the space of 15 minutes. I've had problems with controls, the sound and the menus. It's just not even playable in its current state.

This is the type of release that gives Early Access a bad name. The devs need to fix the basics before collecting cash from people.

Refund requested. Maybe I come back later in a year and see how it's going.

This game is a really fun top-down ARPG shooter, it has an excellent concept and I highly recommend this game to those that want to join, play the game, and make it the best.

I would like to note that currently this game is very alpha. There will be bugs and glitches. The game does need some serious quick polish to get it to at least beta status. BUT the core concept of the game is great, it has some really huge potential. So I would only buy this game if you really want to help the game improve, otherwise I would follow and wait for some patches to roll out.

As I said above, the game is a top-down/isometric shooter. What makes this fun is that you don't click to move, you do so by using WASD and you shoot your guns with left click and right click, which makes combat very interactive. You have 4 skills that you can have and equip, an example is one that increases your attack speed and you have 1 armor ability that you get when you wear certain armors.

There are two game modes currently, defense mode where you defend a certain object against waves of enemies. The other one is explorer mode where you get a random objective and have to complete them, an example is to collect X amount, or escorting a person to the exit. For combat it all boils down to pretty much kiting and shooting aliens until they are dead, they have some variety in their attacks, but not that much.

For character customization there are a lot of things you can do. Each character has a skill list where you can put points, into a variety of different stats such as increase damage, increase health, increase armor, etc... Best thing is you can re-roll your points any time you want (when you're not in a game), this allows you to experiement with different builds. You earn these skill points by leveling up your character and to level up you complete mission objectives and gain experience at the end.

Another great thing is you can customize the looks of your robot. You can find different armor and weapon pieces when you play, they are random drops in the level, and they change your looks. Another great thing is that these pieces have random stats on them, so not every piece is the same, this will give you further character customization. Also you can craft gear by finding crystals in the dungeon and have a chance to make a rare.

Lastly with regarding modifications, you can upgrade your armor and weapon pieces, they increase defense and attack respectively. There can be other modifications too, but that I haven't discoverd yet.

One feature this game has that I'm not too fond of and I'm sure other as well, is an online only game, there is currently no option for offline (no internet) play. Reason is there are online features in this game such as guilds, auction house (will be in game in the future), and various co op modes. For this price though I can look past this feature, but if it were any higher I wouldn't have bought it as I really don't like online only games.

From a singleplayer standpoint, the game is very playable. I have been playing exclusively solo and been doing just fine. Although the game is geared more towards co-op play though, but not needed if you don't want to.

From a hours:gameplay value, you will definitely get your money's worth and more. Content-wise as in levels there isn't much at the moment (will be more soon), the hours come from farming for crystals, finding items, and crafting awesome gear for your character.

Overall the game has been great and really the sky's the limit, again, such huge potential. Also, the devs are very active with the community. Quick response and fixes, I don't know many games that have this kind of dev interaction, more games need to be like this.

I hope this review helps you in deciding if you should purchase the game or not.

I am sorry, I cannot recommend this game. It barely works. When I started it the first time, it put me in a "dungeon", which was just a small circle. It was basically one screen. I don't know if that was intentional. Maybe it was supposed to be a tutorial area or something like that. I checked all corners. No way out. So I opened the ugly menu and chose "Leave". It then got stuck in a loading loop. After some minutes I had to close the game. Second time it actually showed me a menu screen that wasn't there last time. So that was good. Bad thing was the sound was gone. Completely gone. Silence. I started a game anyway. So now the game kind of worked, which was good, I guess. But the gameplay just wasn't any fun, because of a serious bug in the combat. You are supposed to change your direction in a 360 degrees fashion, but that doesn't work in all directions. So sometimes you are able to shoot just a little bit to the left, so you can hit the enemy. And sometimes it just switches to 4-directional shooting. That means you are constantly trying to find the right angle, but then have to move in a weird way, because it won't let you shoot where you want. It's a mess.

Those were the bugs I found in my few minutes of gametime. But even if they fix all that during the early access phase, I don't just see a decent game here. The level design is horrible. You mostly walk in corridors. For a twin stick shooter that means you move either forward (when you want to progress the level) or backward (when there's an enemy). That's basically all you do. It's boring, right from the beginning. It doesn't help that you have only one weapon, that has a recharge functionality, which means you can't fire all the time (which is what I would want from a shooter like this). Sure, you will unlock more weapons as you progress. But the game is so boring from the get-go, that I am not even interested in progressing. There is a stealth ability with a pretty heavy cooldown. But I didn't find any real use for it. Seemed out of place. The graphics are bad. The enemies feel uninspired. The camera needs to be rotated by the player with L1/R1, which also feels strange. Sometimes you see enemies too late. Also, they can shoot through obstacles, while you can't. Sorry, I just don't see this game getting any good.

Ok, I am really tired of these "early access" games that can't run properly. First of all, I had to reboot my pc, to run this game, because It showed me strange error (really I saw this one first time in my life) which told me that game can not run in 1920x1080 60hz.

When I did it, the game asked me to enter my nickname, and no login or password, maybe it use my Steam account to log on.

Instead of main menu, this game showed me tutorial, the shortest tutorial I've ever seen, then after that, I saw character menu, where I could upgrade my character, craft something, switch options, e.t.c. Actually I bought this game because I thought this would be like Diablo + Sci-fi or something like that. So when I saw the character menu, I was like "Yeah, that what I actually thought!". But then, I tried to set my graphics to high level, because in-game font was looking kinda "distorted", and the only graphical options that I found instead of Resolution was "unity-like-preset-options" fast>fastest>beatiful>fantastic, and ABSOLUTELY ANY confirmation of each option provided CRASH of that game. But after restart, I notice that in-game SOUND IS TURNED OFF, And there is no way to run it again! But graphical settings were saved!

After I ran the solo-match, and.. yes this is session-like game, where you can join to room with others players, for co-op missions. So I started the game, and I promise you, that graphics will burn your eyes, ground is distorted and glowing, your character can run on any obstacles, you can even fall(!) from a great height! Come on! Even PoE is more careful with that!

Procedurally generation levels are pointless, because every location is same as where you were 5 seconds ago. And there is only one type of dungeon, I think.

And there is Timer in top-right corner of the screen, I am not entirely sure what that means, But I think this is game over countdown or something. That Timer even in solo-missions, I just don't...

I want to say that this game contains:

First-time running issues
Sound problems
Poor Graphic settings
This game could crash in any moment.
In-game bugs like you can run on obstacles.
Poor Level Design

Maybe there are much more problems, but I can't stand more than 20 minutes in this game.

P.S. And I guess you will not be able to play this game without internet connection.

P.P.S. Also - refund.

I wanted to give this game a chance before I wrote a review about it. I will keep this short, sweet and to the point.

Pros:
Fun, cheap and unique art design with custom classes/builds, loot system.
Developers are very responsive and have been working hard to adress community issue(s).
Guilds

Cons:
A bit early on the EA side, IE the game came out yesterday on EA so it is a bit buggy.
(I wont list every bug because as a mature gamer you should know any EA has issues)
Cant customize colors on mechs/no real aethstic customization aside from what armor you have on. (A color option would be cool)

While this game still needs a good chunk of work, it has potential to be a nice "On the side" kind of game for some people. While I don't reccomend someone buying it if they expect a feature complete game I am enjoying my time playing DnR.
