If you enjoy solitaire games, Faerie Solitaire is a fresh little twist on the formula and an incredibly addictive little time-spnner. I love the randomness of the game, compared to traditional solitaire, and the objectives change things up from hand to hand as well.

I'm not a huge fan of the theme, honestly, I think the artwork and story is a little trite and the voice acting is downright cringeworthy. Some of the upgrade perks can be nice but the pets are pretty useless. I also wish I could change the aspect ratio or at least resize the window since I play in windowed mode usually.

The game itself, however, keeps me playing for just one more hand. Or 20 more hands. Or hey when did it get so late is it really 1 am?

It might also be the hunt for that last egg, which after nearly 50 hours and 4-5 complete playthroughs still will not drop. (Achievement hunters, beware!)

Quick review:

Short Verdict: An addictive solitaire game, similar to Golf, but with wrapping, special abilities, upgrades, (useless) pets, and a storyline. A nice game for casual players, just don't expect awesomeness. Oh, they promised to improve the game in a future update, just so you know.

Pros:
  • Very addictive--you can play many rounds before getting tired
  • Beautiful graphics
  • Nice BGM
  • Getting money for the upgrades and materials for evolving pets add to its addictiveness
  • The Adventure mode is "faerly" long (sorry, couldn't resist the pun) and provides you with multiple layouts to play
  • Extra 5-level Challenge mode adds (slightly) harder levels to the game, too
  • All special powers, extra cards and upgrades work well together

Cons:
  • A bit too easy--I never lost a level (composed of 9 hands), even the challenges
  • Collecting and evolving pets is insanely unbalanced--takes many, many hours and there's no guarantee you'll get all the pets. Not to mention they're useless.
  • After I beat Adventure and Challenge modes, I wasn't really willing to keep playing (beat both in around 20 hours, which is a good run for a casual game)
  • You end up with a crazy amount of useless money, which could've been used, say, to buy pets you didn't find or evolve them
  • The voice actor for the main character is a ham (sorry, dude, just being honest)
  • It seems like they barely made any efforts to build a nice storyline--it doesn't make much sense, it's there just to give you a sense of progress
  • You can't change the 800x600 resolution (this will possibly be solved in a future patch, if I got it right)

Bought on / for: Steam Store for R$ 2,00 (US$ 0.85). Definitely worth that money!

My kind of game! I enjoy playing solitaire in real life so I had to have this game and was not disapointed. Lots of fun and I think the small story is cute. At first I did not care about pets option but after some hours I have come wanting to collect and raise them all, this is good kind of addicted. Challenges are nice add and there is much to do, I am only half way in game and I am happy about that. Replay value is huge for me!

This is basically an upgrade for windows solitaire, but for some reason I find myself going back to it quite alot. I don't know why. I guess its because its a good background activity whilst working/watching/reading/waiting. Plenty of little things additions to basic solitaire like upgrades, challeneges and unlockables.

I think I'm just trying to justify myself playing a game called 'faerie solitaire' for such a long time.

Out of 10 I'd say it is passably enjoyable.

I bought this because it was only .49 during a sale and figured it wouldn't be a loss if it wasn't that fun. I ended up playing for 5 hours straight after I loaded it up. It's a lot of fun. I like solitaire, but get bored after a little while. This game has extra things like challenges, pets to collect, and buffs to purchase with money you make in the game that makes it a lot of fun.

If you like playing card games you'll love this.

Personal rating: 6/10

PROS:
+ interesting story for a Solitaire game
+ nice UI
+ classic Solitaire experience
+ relaxing

CONS:
- can get boring after a longer while of playing
- repetitive gameplay
- two achievements that are really tedious to get

Comment:
The first 25 hours in this game have been fun. It's the concept of Solitaire combined with a story campaign. Poured into the mix are also RPG elements, challenges and some achievements. While not astounding this game is good. However I gave a point less for the tedious egg gathering which works in a really funky way. As you see above I have played about 68 hours in total, that's becuse of the totally random egg appearance combined with a bad way of generating them. And this game does not add enough fun and gameplay variations to play it for almost 70 hours (or more if you are unlucky with the egg generator) for most people. I would still recommend it as it is relaxing and fun for the most part.

As a Solitaire variant, Faerie Solitaire is fairly competent. Most notably, the game measures succeeding enough to progress in ways other than simply clearing all the cards on the stage - points, combos, etc, which makes the game different from most solitaire games that have binary success/failure states, and often very difficult ones. While the plot and narration of Faerie Solitaire are pretty poor, they can be skipped.

Addictively simple card game. Its solitaire with a whimsical fantasy twist. There are objectives scattered here and their (like get so many matches in a row, or farm so much gold) that you have to complete to advance the game but one you get the hang of the mechanics they are fairly easy to meet. There are some super moves (which you can purchase and some that unlock) thrown on top of the standard solitaire rules, like having to use a fire spell power up to melt an ice card that is otherwise blocking your stack of cards. I liked these touches and it helped to keep me at the game when a standard solitaire rule set would have bored me. Graphically it’s sparse but has a nice fantasy theme, music never bothered me and the story is told in story book cut scenes which I found charming. If you like fantasy settings and solitaire than this is the game for you.

People mock this game and I find that to be a damn shame. Yeah, okay - the storyline is you need to free the fairies and stock up on logs and rocks so you can upgrade your (utterly useless, literally do nothing at all) pets like the Unicorn and the Chimera but the fact is, the game - a spin on spider solitaire - is indeed enjoyable and quite addicting. This is my go-to game for relaxing at the end of a long day, needing some mindless repetition to keep my mind nice and still while I work through the days events. Perfect for a bit of quiet time before bed, when you want to be occupied but not over-stimulated.

Solid 4/5, if you're a fan of Solitaire games.

A rather simple card game to pass the time, Faerie Solitaire is literally as the name implies--a slightly glittered-up version of solitaire. It is something to play should you want to just aimlessly pass the time away. If you have any other games on your list to play, then I suggest playing them first. Don't get me wrong, the game is decent in its own right, but mainly for younger ages, casual gamers, grandparents, or those odd people who actually classify themselves as "gamers" because they play facebook games. It has a few unique factors to it such as pets, achievements, and objectives, which utterly make it seem more and more like it truly does belong on facebook.

Objectives start out easy and gradually increase with difficulty as you progress through the short and thin plot of the game. If you do not complete an objective on that level then you must start it over completely. This is something that will utterly allow you to waste more time should you so wish. Achievements vary but are relatively simple to grasp and accomplish by just playing the game. Lastly, you can find eggs and other "mystical" items as you progress, and they allow you to hatch them and raise your own pets/creatures over time. There are baby and adult versions of each creature--it evolves when you acquire the appropriate materials and earn enough exp (which you attain by simply putting time into the game I believe). The point of the game is to fill "Faerie Land" with creatures and release trapped Faeries by playing the card games somehow... Overall, I recommend Faerie Solitaire only if you are truly bored or have a younger sibling/child you wish to entertain while babysitting them.

Good little time waster. And theres a few nice bonuses in there which stop it from being just a prettier version of the MSSolitaire.
