What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We're conscious that remaking a game such as The Ship is a delicate process, so we wanted to build the core game and get it in front of fans of The Ship to see what they think. We've made a number of minor changes from the original and would like to take player feedback on these.

Check out our Development Roadmap for details on current state of the game.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Looking at the content and features that still have to added, we would expect the game to be feature complete soon. We will stay in Early Access as we continue performance optimisation, bug fixing, and looking at player feedback.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The game is entirely playable, although not all maps and features are currently available. For example, traps and secret rooms are yet to be added.

All core game mechanics are in the game and functional (the kill loop, needs, security and justice systems), which means you’ll be able to play a match against other players and be able to find different weapons, outfits, and satisfy your needs. And murder. Murder works. Works real good.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

Dedicated servers (16 players), LAN (16 Players) and Listen Servers (8 players) are available to set up.

All core game mechanics (needs, justice, security, combat, kill loop) are functional and in-game, and ongoing optimisation work is being carried out.

Bots and Arcade Mode (single player v bots) have recently been added to the game.

All melee weapons and ranged weapons are in the game. Some special weapons are in the game (explosives), but not others (syringes). Traps and secret rooms have yet to be added.

5 maps are available, with more due for release shortly. The remaining maps will come later in development.

Hunt, Elimination, and Deathmatch game modes are available and working well, although there are some performance issues due to lag.

Some features aren't currently available (traps, secret rooms) and these will be added throughout the course of Early Access.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“No, the price will be $20 throughout. However, owners of the original game will receive a 25% discount for now.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

  • All of our team are active on the Steam Community and we have a process in place to review player feedback.
  • There are several sub forums setup for players to leave feedback on specific areas of the game and report bugs.
  • We will be scheduling testing events where we ask players to look for and feedback on specific aspects of gameplay.
  • A testing branch will be maintained and players can opt-in to test new content and features if they want to.

Clinton and Trump take on the World's Leaders in The Ship: Remasted

The hugely popular World Leaders Pack is now available in The Ship: Remasted as part of a major new free update for the game.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3fHwit949Bo

Not only can you play with the original world leaders such as Thatcher, Castro, Blair and Bush from The Ship: Murder Party, but we’ve added two more potential leaders to the mix - Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. So whether you’re with Hillary or believe Trump can’t be stumped, take up arms and prove who’s the real captain of this ship! Since we’re in the Steam Summer Sale, The Ship: Remasted is 66% OFF right now, so if you buy before July 4th you’ll get it for just £4.99 / 6.79 Euros / $6.79.

Alongside the World Leader’s Pack, this latest update comes with a large number of additional new features and fixes that moves The Ship: Remasted ever closer to the end of Early Access. The full patch notes are linked below but the highlights include:

  • The release of the much-requested Mac and Linux builds with the ability to play against people on all platforms.
  • Steam controller support – Big picture!
  • Lots of further optimisation and bug fixes.
  • It’s also the 10th Anniversary of the launch of The Ship: Murder Party!

And if that’s not enough, we thought we’d go totally overboard and include a copy of The Ship: Murder Party for free for everyone who purchases The Ship Remasted, including all of our existing players.

For full info and patch notes from this new update, check out our Steam page here.

Enjoy the cruise!

PATCH NOTES
WELCOME TO 'THE SHIP: REMASTED' EARLY ACCESS
The Ship: Remasted is in Early Access and, as such, is unfinished.
No, really. Do expect whopping bugs, minor code explosions, wonky visuals, and a whole host of other strange and ungainly things that probably shouldn't be happening while trying to clobber someone with a polo mallet (e.g. sudden glitches into the 1930's -- we don't know why). You'll also find a fair chunk of important functionality is missing and some of the usability leaves a lot to be desired.

Dedicated Servers [Advanced Users]
The current build allows you to create 'Dedicated Servers' or connect to those created by others. You can install a server onto a computer and then leave the game running 24hrs-a-day for others to connect to.

If you want to have a go at installing a Dedicated Server, do the following:

A) To Download:
1. Open Steam
2. Go to Library > Tools
3. This should give you a big list of different servers and tools available. Find The Ship:
Remasted Dedicated Server (should be just under The Ship Dedicated Server)4. Right-click > Properties
5. Go to Beta tab and enter code: 'remastedtesting' to access the testing branch
6. Select the testing branch ('external') from drop down
7. Right-click The Ship Remasted Dedicated Server > install game
8. Server should install

B) To Setup Server:
1. Right-click The Ship: Remasted Dedicated Server > Properties > Local Files > Browse Local Files
2. This should bring up the folder the dedicated server is located in.
3. Open the file 'TSRDS_1' file
4. Open server.cfg with notepad++ (or a similar program)
5. Here you can edit game settings (server name, map, game type, etc.)
6. The mapcycle text file in the same folder can be edited to change what maps the server cycles through. This should be opened also with notepad++

C) Starting the Dedicated Server:
1. Go to Steam > Library > Tools
2. Double-click The Ship: Remasted Dedicated Server
3. This should open a console that shows who's joining, map loaded, etc.
4. Players should be able to join when map is loaded. (Can check its visible by going View > Servers > Ship Remasted)
5. If the map isn't visible, you must configure your firewall/port forwarding by opening ports: UDP/TCP 443, 7776-7778 on your router.

If you simply want to play a game on a Dedicated Server, all you have to do is select 'Join a Cruise', then choose a game from the 'Dedicated' or 'All' tab.

Note:
+ Dedicated Servers can handle up to sixteen players.
+ You can only connect to servers with the same version number. If no servers are visible, ensure you have updated to the latest build.

Charging 20$ for a game that feels like a bad source mod is a robbery, fair and square. The entertainment value of the product is solely dependent on the friends you are playing it with.
Bought it because I was provoked by friends.
Used the 'refund product' option for the first, and hopefully for the last time ever.

Well well well
Game is dead, if you wanna play a multiplayer game for 20EUR with bots go ahead.
Just check forums, people are desperately trying to find someone to play with.
Developers didn't learn anything from the original and follow exact same trap.
Shame.

I wouldnt recommend that to anyone. FIrst, there a no dedicated servers for linux, which is a must-have. Second is there are max 10 players online at the same moment on the entire internet. The third problem is the hitboxes. These are bad as f*ck. Just a worsened feature when looking at the original the ship.

I loved The Ship when it first came out, but my LAN buddies weren't that into it, so I didn't get to play it much, and as people say, servers dropped off considerably...
Now all these years later they have remastered it and GUESS WHAT! In that time I have bred 3 of my own LAN Buddies in the meantime! ....and we love it!!!!!!
Hopefully the modding community gets into it!

If you're just a casual gamer then you're probably gonna have a pretty bad time playing this, unless you have a semi-beast computer it's gonna play slow or it's gonna play at 2 frames per second.

It took practically decades for it to download and when it was done I couldn't even play the game because my computer couldn't handle the graphics and I was pretty dissapointed because I loved the original ship, but nobody plays that anymore.

Maybe if there is an update that can make the game have better performance for casual gamers I will change my thoughts on the game, until then it's staying like this.

The game, in its current state, is kind of dumb.

I loved the first one, but this is extremely poorly optimized, and does not have as many features as the original.
That being said, it is in early access, and I have no doubt it will eventually be in a better state then the original.

Also, the whole world leaders thing completely destroys the atmosphere of the game, and is completely uninspired and dumb.

Get it on sale, I guess.

Honestly this game isn't that good. Currently this game is missing a ton of features from the original game (like the ability to close doors...I thought that'd be a given). In the servers I managed to play you only got 3 minutes to kill your target which isn't enough time at all, because you need to find your way around the ship and care for your characters needs. I was lucky to kill 2 targets before the game ended. It's hard to even play The Ship because it's horribly optimized, I ran into multiple problems like FPS drops and bugged out servers. Also this game is kind of dead, it's difficult to even find a server with any players. Combine all of this sh*it into one and you have a really annoying and dissapointing game.

I do give it some credit though, because under all of this sh*it there is a fun game to be had. If the stars align just right and you can play with actual people and without fps drops it can be a ton of fun. It's just a shame there is so much things holding this game down. Right now don't buy this game and wait for it to get out of Early Access and hopefully by then it will have ironed out all of these problems and be worth buying.

Performance is pretty typical of early access, quite surprising given that it's mostly based on the original older game.
Game is basically unplayable due to the amount of random killing that has negligible punishment. Game's community will kil itself before they patch it.

Pros:
-hillary can go to jail
- graphics are now more like mid-2011 quality rather than 2004 quality
- there are servers with people on them

cons:
- why the hell would you remove closing the doors
- literally everything except the graphics are the same, even the radio songs i have heard before in the original
- bugs bugs bugs
- 20fps on gtx 970 what the hell

Buy "The Ship" and play it with the one other real person on there until this game is not total crap

The remastered version is really choppy and buggy on any PC I have tried it on. I so far have had it crash every time I try multi player, and in arcade mode it runs so slow I can barely walk or do anything before my needs kill me or some bot does. I am also a bit disappointed right now as the free copy I was promised is still not in my library and am not even sure what to do about the fact that I can't adjust my mouse settings properly in the options (seems to make no changes). The old version is currently still playable, though for some reason I can no longer play it on my Mac when I could before. If they could see that there is a lot of intrigue on this game I am hoping the developers will actually go in and patch everything, they really do seem like they want to get player feedback and improve so hopefully this is the case. This game has a lot of potential and honestly I am excited to play as all these world leaders but these issues need to be fixed or this game is not worth any money at all. As it currently stands, I cannot play it or recommend it to anyone at all and really wish I could.

Please, fix these issues and add the free game we were promised. I understand it's early release but at the very least I would like to try out Murder Party!

Barely any players at the moment, AI are really stupid (will either stand still in a room until they die or constantly get arrersted), but still farely fun. Wouldn't say it's worth it right now, but get it if you feel that more ppl will start playing.
