What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We're conscious that remaking a game such as The Ship is a delicate process, so we wanted to build the core game and get it in front of fans of The Ship to see what they think. We've made a number of minor changes from the original and would like to take player feedback on these.

Check out our Development Roadmap for details on current state of the game.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Looking at the content and features that still have to added, we would expect the game to be feature complete soon. We will stay in Early Access as we continue performance optimisation, bug fixing, and looking at player feedback.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The game is entirely playable, although not all maps and features are currently available. For example, traps and secret rooms are yet to be added.

All core game mechanics are in the game and functional (the kill loop, needs, security and justice systems), which means you’ll be able to play a match against other players and be able to find different weapons, outfits, and satisfy your needs. And murder. Murder works. Works real good.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

Dedicated servers (16 players), LAN (16 Players) and Listen Servers (8 players) are available to set up.

All core game mechanics (needs, justice, security, combat, kill loop) are functional and in-game, and ongoing optimisation work is being carried out.

Bots and Arcade Mode (single player v bots) have recently been added to the game.

All melee weapons and ranged weapons are in the game. Some special weapons are in the game (explosives), but not others (syringes). Traps and secret rooms have yet to be added.

5 maps are available, with more due for release shortly. The remaining maps will come later in development.

Hunt, Elimination, and Deathmatch game modes are available and working well, although there are some performance issues due to lag.

Some features aren't currently available (traps, secret rooms) and these will be added throughout the course of Early Access.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“No, the price will be $20 throughout. However, owners of the original game will receive a 25% discount for now.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

  • All of our team are active on the Steam Community and we have a process in place to review player feedback.
  • There are several sub forums setup for players to leave feedback on specific areas of the game and report bugs.
  • We will be scheduling testing events where we ask players to look for and feedback on specific aspects of gameplay.
  • A testing branch will be maintained and players can opt-in to test new content and features if they want to.

Weekly Weather Report 21/06/2016

Ahoy Shipmates!

Last week we released a massive update which implemented a whole host of new features and fixes. The SS Connemara has now been given the full Remasted treatment and the flare gun is back! We’re especially proud of the new traps and weapons, so please give them a go and leave any feedback in the Forums.

Looking forward, the QA team are working their way through the Mac and Linux builds ready for the next update and yes, you will be able to play with people across platforms. We have a dedicated member of the code team focusing purely on optimisation and polish. So although you may see fewer new features coming up, the aim is to improve what we have in place. Similar to the UI overhaul that was included in last week’s update.

Lead Concept Artist Paul has been hard at work creating new staff portraits to decorate the Ships with. We’ll share more of them with new staff introductions, starting today with our new Head of Marketing: me!

I've been a part of the UK Gaming Industry for some time and has worked at the likes of Ubisoft, Square Enix and spent the last few years at Bethesda. I've made a big jump from Brighton to Edinburgh to join the Blazing Griffin team and I'm already on the phone far too much. A little bit more about me: I really likes creepy crawlies, jazz, and I'm especially pleased with the Brienne of Tarth-style portrait (so cool).

Expect to see me popping up on the Steam forums as BG_Kay. In addition to the everyday marketing and PR stuff, I will be looking after all of the social media pages, YouTube, and events. My next task is to put together some scheduled play times so you can find people in your local time zones to play with and have a chance to play against some of the dev team. Do let me know if you have any thoughts on this! I'm really looking forward to getting to know you all.

As always, keep an eye on Steam and Twitter for updates and happy hunting!

I loved the original game, unfortunately, I can not recommend buying this right now. Yes, I only played 8 minutes, but guess what? You don't need anylonger to see that this is not playable at this time. If you open a closet, a drawer or something, anything that opens up your inventory, you can not close it anymore. Yes there is a big close button, but most of the time your mouse arrow just disapears and even if you manage to press the button, it just does nothing. You can not even ask other players for help, because you can not tipe T or U in the chat because it switches between chatting as entity or chatting as charakter. You can not even go to the options screen ingame, you press escape, you press on options... nothing happens. I had to exit this game wit alt+f4 because not even that was possible. It is sad that they sell something as buggy as this with the name of a realy great game, because the old version was great. I will refund this now, because I don't have time to wait and test every 2 month if this is already playable or not...

PS: Sorry for my bad english :)

This is not a real review, but a first impression of my first steps in this Alpha build game. It is too early to fully review it, since it is still in development stage. I never played The Ship before. The old version did not run on my computer. So happy to see this remastered version. So far I am not conviced yet. Still in doubt if i ask for refund or give it a shot later.

My experience so far:

- Joined a cruise
- Woke up in my cabin
- Clueless on what to do I start to snif out the closets
- Found some weapons and other stuff
- Walked around a bit on empty ship
- Wondered what dangers I might encounter, since ship seems abandonned
- Got scared and drew a weapon to protect myself, just in case!
- Got instantly thrown in jail for carrying a weapon (spotted by camera pfft)
- Met a lady in jail.
- We stared at eachother, both clueless on whats to be expected of us.
- She told me I looked sad
- I told her she looks ugly (she really did!!)
- She disembarked
- I am alone now
- Looked around a bit more
- Found an NPC
- Tried to talk with her, but only talked jibberish
- Equiped another weapon
- Got thrown in jail again
- Still clueless on what my goal is here
- Gave up and disembarked

Conclusion based on it's current Early acces state:
- not recommended due to missing intro or tutorial and lack of players.
- Graphics are still mediocre at best.
- Game runs smoothly.
- An introduction or tutorial would help (a lot)!
- I do see potential, looks like it might become a fun game to play.

NOTE: I just found out that apperantly you need to seperatly download a tutorial...IMO thats just stupid:) Looks like the tutorial is not a remastered edition yet. At least it does not say so. So not even sure it will run on my computer.

NOTE 2: They mentionned a free addition to THE SHIP: Murder party. Did not see that either! I wonder if that is standard build in now.

The remastered version is really sluggish. The bots can run circles around you. You're dead before you even know what happened. Also, a lot of the controls that do multiple things don't transition when they're supposed to. I've been busted for pulling out a weapon when I was trying to right click on a bank teller more times than I can count. The old version still plays on Windows 7 and at this moment, the new version is actually a downgrade.

Not going to lie, I've spent some time talking to the devs and playing the original game, this one is alright, but progress for a 12-13 man team is slow.

Irregardless it's worth picking up if you have some friends

The devs started this because they owned the franchise and the name, but not the rights to the engine in which it was built, and based of Source.

So lo-and-behold, the multiplayer died on the original one.

They would've been better off formatting a lawsuit and taking back the servers for the old game, I dont really think The Ship needed a HD remaster, especially when it's taking this long to finish.

Still reccomended for the good laughs I've had

I used to play The Ship and enjoyed the theme and gameplay. I wish The Ship Remasted actually worked so I could play on servers against other humans. The game was meant to be finished in February so I bought it then, but it feels like the dev team has gone home and decided not to finish the game. Probably a lesson about not buying games when they are in alpha. Silly me. All the best.

This is an mostly first impressisons review.
(i got the game for free for being part of the closed beta.)
The ship and The ship Remasted are about you being on a ship, trying to kill your target, without you being killed by your target, no-one ever knows who is targeting them until it is possibally too late.

You can use a viarity of weapons Ranging from a revolver, to a golf club, to a Frying pan, each one awarding you different abounts of money depending on how recently is has been used to kill someone

The ship remased is looking to be an great remastering of the origional ship,

i would say this is an VERY good game, but to hold off on getting it as it is not complete yet,

The Ship: Remasted is a beautiful looking remake of a game with great gameplay mechanics.

This short video shows the game's current state, however ignore the point I made about the game lacking online multiplayer, because that has since been remedied. Although, it is limited to 4 players, which brings me to my first problem.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TssQgFAIIyU
The game at the moment of writing this review, is a bit limited. You can't add bots, and online play only allows for 4 players, so you can't really get the true The Ship experience unless you play LAN, which allows for 16 players.

With that said, the game itself is great. The graphics look gorgeous, and there are 4 diverse enough maps at the moment, with more to be released down the road.

I'm generally not a fan of Early Access, but the Devs are being transparent, and even have a roadmap on their website detailing features that have already been implemented, and some that are planned. This gives me a bit more faith. Also, this is a remake of a great game, so you know that the main gameplay mechanics will be good.

Speaking of which, all the things you need to actually play a real game of the Ship are implemented. There's a security system where you can get caught, as well as a system that shows you who your target is, and where they are. The only problem I have at the moment is just the fact that I can't easily play it until they allow for more players per online match, as I, like many others, don't have access to a 16 player LAN group.

The game needs quite a decent bit of optimization as well, as it doesn't run as well as it should be.

Despite some missing features, I'm going to be giving a positive recommendation due to the fact that the progress so far seems promising. The devs show that they are listening to consumers, as they chose to push back the release date once because of people that shared my concerns with the game's previous lack of features.

Their transparency with updates also gives me faith. Most importantly, the original The Ship was a great game, so they can only really build upon that great gameplay. If you don't feel comfortable buying the game in its current state, definitely support it in the coming weeks when they add even more features!

The original Ship, was easily on of my favorite games to date, in fact, I still play it quite a bit.

The Ship: Remasted, is a gorgeous remake of the ship, with improved mechanics, fixes with previous bugs, tweaked flaws in the original, and much more. If you've played the old one, you may have noticed that online playis kinda dead, but this one is a different story, theres still hope. But even offine with bots is really fun. The point is, if you don't own this game, I recommend it 110%, it'll change your life.

What is The Ship:Remasted? Well it sertainly gave this game some life. I really enjoy rhis game. I did see some minor improvements just like they said they were going to be adding. Now I want to go over some Pros and Cons for this game I have experienced for playing this game the first time. Also I did play the original so I know. for this stage in early access here are some pros and cons.

Pros:
1 incredible Badass Graphics.
2 New minor updates that bring new life to the game
3 overall a lot of fun to play.

Cons:
1 Bugs and frame lag
2 Limited Features (Will get fixed soon)
3 Glitches with interface when playing the game
4 More Bugs
5 Sometimes when you die your screen goes completely black and it does not want you to exit the game

Anyway these are some of the pros and cons I got for the game at this current stage? So is it worth buying it at this stage? Well when you get it for a deal like I got it for 40% off and you can get it for 15% go ahead and do it. The game will improve and I can't wait to see what happens when it leaves Early Access. If you have to pay 20 bucks I would wait a couple more weeks to see if anything has improved unless you want it that badly. Great game 9.5/10 Would play again.
