Wow for a game that came out in 2005, I'm not going to say much but this game is pure fun. The game has smooth controls and gameplay. Awesome graphics for is time. Hilarious storyline, pure comedy. This game is going to take awhile to beat. Others games could learn from them, they need more games like this. Ummm where is part 2 for this game make him a adult or grow into one like Zelda, finish it rate it mature. :0

I could go on and on about Psychonauts. Great story, memorable characters, unique visual style, inventive platforming and hilarious writing. This cult classic (Hint: It's made by Tim Schaffer of Grim Fandango and Brutal Legend) is highly recommended and deserves a purchase.

This is Tim Schafer and Double Fine at their very best. Ambitious, both from a thematic and gameplay perspective, and incredibly witty and entertaining. I have played a lot of videogames in my time, and now work for a gaming company, and this game is definitely in my top 5 list. This is also the one of only a handful of games I can remember playing through twice, and I enjoyed the second runthrough just as much. Absolutely love it to bits.

That being said, there is some wonkiness here and there, mostly with the platforming and controls, but the amount of love and fun that is packed into it makes up for that tenfold. This game also has some of the most imaginitive level- and production design I have ever seen in a game. If it is not already apparent then I will say that you absolutely must play this game. You simply can't regret it.

P.S. The time on record is only for the second playthrough, as I owned the game originally before Steam was a thing.

Psychonauts is easily one of the most unique games available. It's the right combination of quirk, sass, eye-candy, and humor bundled with phenomenal (while corny, in several respects) storytelling and a particular sense of fervor that's difficult to come by, pertaining to character development and sentimental value in the setting.

Psychonauts is a game that you can forget the world with. Sit down, relax with a controller, and immerse yourself. Definitely recommended.

First time review, so here it goes:

This is a great game. No caveats or buts; it is, without question, a masterpiece.

The games is about a young boy named Raz, who ran away from the circus to a summer camp to become a Psychonaut.
Once there he meets many quirky and colorful characters and enters their minds to fight their inner-demons, unpack their emotional baggage, and maybe learn to set things on fire.

The main strength of this title comes from its focused design. All the pieces just fit well together. The level of minds you must face, the leveling system, the odd off the wall plot, the aft for mentioned cast of characters, the music choices, and the overall sense of the game. A mix of the seemingly familiar wrapped in the trapping of the strange.

Some very minor nitpicks I feel I need to add. They are by no means game breakers. In fact I encourage you to go play this game before reading this list. The game doesn't tell you can interact with as many things as you actually can. For my second play through I was using the action button on everything and finding that there's always some throwaway line or gag for nearly every object or person. The figments (one of your main collectables) are the fiddliest things to get in every level. They can range from mildly annoying, frustrating (the race), to downright impossible (waterloo world). That wouldn't be so bad if there was a way you could track down the ones you missed (you always miss one, guaranteed). But if you really want 101% you need to use the internet to track down the missing ones (itself a pain in the butt).

I honestly had no problem with the Meat Circus first or second time. (The first time I did have problems with (one of) the final boss, but that was performance issues with my PC and me not configuring it properly). [Pro-tip: ignore everything in the first tent and just save the little kid and get to the top. You can come back later]

One last thing I want to really highlight, is the settings of the levels. Every one of which is exploding with a creativity rarely seen in any videogame. My favorite is a toss-up between Waterloo World and The Milkman Conspiracy. (Though Lungfishoppolis comes in a close third)

In the end, this is only my opinion, not everyone’s. I mean, what do you care, this game is how old now and every person on the internet has given their opinion on everything. But hear me out, even as old as it is, it is still one of the greatest video games of all time. Period. The humor, the charm, it's all there for all to see and play.

The sequel is apparently coming out soon, I don't know what to think about that, but if it is half as good as the original the gaming world on the whole will be better for it. Signing off in the words of Coach Oleander that I think sum up the game quite nicely-

"You shall engage the enemy in his own mentality! You shall chase his dreams! You shall fight his demons! You shall live his nightmares. And those of you who fight well, you will find yourselves on the path to becoming international secret agents — in other words... Psychonauts! The rest of you... will die!"

With the new Psychonauts game on the way, I felt I needed to make a review for the first one. Let me start off by saying that if you have not already played this game, you are missing out. It is an absolute classic from one of my favorite developers, Double Fine. (And the man behind it all: Tim Schafer)

The game itself is filled with great humor, amazing level design, eccentric characters, a villain's ridiculous plot to take over the world, and a mysterious milkman. (Play the game to see what I am talking about) The creativity of the developers is astounding and I found myself actually wanting to come back to all the levels to collect every little thing the developers put in there. All the levels have their own charm to them and the premise of the game really allows for some of the most memorable levels I have ever had the joy to play through.

And honestly, I am extremely excited now that we are finally going to get a continuation of the story in the new game they are developing. I really hope it will be good, but even if it isn't, I still think people should pick this game up and play through it. In my opinion, it is well worth the $10 asking price, but if you still don't want to pay that much, then make a note to pick it up during a sale.

Pros

- Great Characters
- Humorous story
- Amazing levels
- Interesting premise
- Psychic Powers
- Milkman

Cons

- Collecting all the figments can be annoying sometimes. (Only a problem for completionists)
- Some minor bugs
- It ends. :(

Overall, I highly recommend this game. It's worth the price and Double Fine really produced a great game.
Personal Score: 9/10

This game is probably one of the best games I've ever played. It'll definitely be a favorite of mine for a long time, and I'm looking forward to the upcoming sequel.

The game has a great art style, a great story, and an outstanding soundtrack. I especially love how the game makes clever use of symbolism in some of the levels such as a character living in a literally twisted reality or another character who is literally fighting a battle in his mind.

However, it's not perfect. Controls can be a little clunky, especially when it comes to combat. On top of this, Psychonauts has plenty of platforming. Obviously, this isn't bad in and of itself. However, most platformers tend to follow one rule of thumb and it's this: Sooner or later, the difficulty will reach rage-inducing levels. Psychonauts is no exception.

Also, some of the bosses can be a little rough. I mean, obviously. It's a boss fight, it's supposed to be rough. What I mean is, they sometimes don't make much sense. Like how some bosses seem to be immune to lasers, yet the very same boss's weakness is the typical melee attack.

But don't let these things repel you from purchashing this title. It's a solid game and a wonderful gaming experience. Just be prepared to be a little patient with it as you draw nearer to the end.

Also, if you're a completionist, make sure to use multiple save slots. The game has a "Point of no return." It does the Zelda thing where you can't save after the final boss, but it automatically saves after you cross this "point of no return." And that means that if you used only one save slot (like I did,) then you're stranded! You can't go back and get those achievements that you missed unless you start another playthrough.

Then again, if you love the game as much as I did, you won't necessarily object to the idea of a second playthrough.
