What a rush of nostalgia. Psychonauts brought me back to my childhood. To be more specific the era where 3D plaformers (with RPG elements) became the norm for videogames. It is a refreshing, quirky, amusing, and very satisfying game overall. It also strengthens the argument that great graphics are not necessary for games to be great.

Positive:
- Creative, original story
- Quirky art-style that perfectly fits the game
- Great voice-acting
- Controls are responsive and feel natural
- Plenty of silly jokes
- Many unique levels/worlds which force you to think differently
- Fantastic difficulty curve - the game gradually expects more out of you
- The game feels fair. If you die it was probably your own fault
- Plenty of side quests and collectables (adds to replay value)
- Levitation = wheeeeee

Negative:
- As expected of most 3D plaformers: camera angles can sometimes be terrible
- The mechanism for rail grinding can be awkward
- There is a lot of information thrown your way when you begin. It can be overwhelming for new gamers
- Not always clear what you are expected to do
- Where is Psychonauts 2?!

Conclusion:
Well? What are you waiting for. This game is a must for anyone who has fond memories of fantastic 3D platformers. With such a low price tag there really are no excuses (especially when it goes on sale: only 1 euro!). If you are concerned about the graphics, don't be. You will have such a great time that it won't even matter. After a while you will grow to appreciate the art-style.

I was always on the outside looking in when it came to Psychonauts. Never really played it when I was younger, but heard it was a great game from others.
I decided to give it a try on a whim and was incredibly pleased with my decision.
It is a phenomenal game.
There are so many fun-loving, humorous portions of the game. While, at a closer look, you can pluck out some dark underlying sub-plots. These can range from intense paranoia, insanity, heartbreak, and obviously enough, death.
You are playing around in a game and you are playing around in people's minds. There is so much twisted fun to be had.
The one thing I would not recommend you do is play on mouse & keyboard. I tried to go as long as I could without a controller, but finally buckled and got one when it came to more "combat-heavy" sections of the game.

TL;DR - You will not regret playing this. (Unless it leaves you wanting more and you have to wait for Psychonauts 2...)

Very fun game with great level design and Double-Fine-esque art style which Is very enjoyable. Would definetely recommend picking this up !

Preferabely try use a controller, and you can also easily patch the game to use the XBOX prompts.

Psychonauts lives up to its good reputation. While it plays itself off as a summer camp collectables-filled platformer, it is clearly meant for a more mature audience. Each mental landscape represents a different form of trauma, stress, or psychosis, and they do not shy away from darker details. But Psychonauts still manages to put itself forward with humor and a positive vibe.

In terms of gameplay, the levels are designed to test your platforming capabilites and teach you the full extent of your moves bit by bit. But completionists will find that the game hides plenty of secrets requiring a more experienced eye, encouraging players to revisit levels with new skill sets and ideas of what to look for. The game does suffer, as many collection-based platformers do, from some frustrating camera angles and shifts, and there is a few spots which require nearly pixel-perfect movement to acquire an item or progress in a level. But the good overwhelmingly outweighs the bad.

This was my first time playing, and I am so glad I finally got around to doing so!

This is truly one of the most unique platformers (should it even be called that though?) that I've ever played. The game may start out a bit slow and feel like any 3D platformer from the era, though once you start entering other peoples minds and exploring their mental worlds you'll start to notice just how different and unique this game is. Through great storytelling and voice-acting it manages to build up a great big world for you to explore with a huge variety between worlds.
The music and graphics are also great and helps build up the atmosphere, though it feels a bit outdated.

It gets incredibly frustrating. I really wanted to like it. Good story, good writing, interesting setting but at times terrible platforming and design.

If you tend to not finish games then this is worth the play otherwise I can only recommend it if you don't mind struggling through parts of it.

This game is just as good as I remember it.

I played this game a long time ago, some 7, maybe 8 years ago. It's just as good as I remember it being, it may sound as if I'm talking with my nostalgia goggles on. And I have to say that I am just a little, but not enough to sway my opinion one way or another. This game is immersive, I litereally got sucked into it for 3 hours, and I didn't stop or even look at the clock one time. That being said I would like to point out a few pros in cons. Keep in mind, some of these are just my opinion and some may have been issues unique to my game.

Pros:
*Extremely interactive, without spoiling anything you have to look for all kinds of things.

*Its not a particularly difficult game, but it has just enough challenge to keep you immersed.

*The controls are fantastic and well explained in the game. The game doesn't leave you in the dark so-to-speak.

*If you like a game that's heavy on plot, you'll probably like this game, there are a mulititude of characters that you can talk to that will reveal little things about the plot and story. Sometimes they're characters that you wouldn't think you'd be able to interact with.

*You can save at almost anytime. A lot of games of this time had that problem where you couldn't save until you found a save point. You guys know what I mean, thankfully this game doesn't suffer from that, you can save right from the menu.

*Scavenging plays a big part the game aswell, which I really enjoy, but that's a matter of preference.

Now for some cons, I couldn't think of many but there are just a few that I would like to note.

Cons:
*It isn't a diffcult game as I said, most of the bosses are reasonability easy to defeat. That being said, it does get a little confusing at times. At one point in the game I had to run around exhausting every option I could to try to figure out what to do, it turned out to be something that I never even thought of.

*Slight graphical errors, In some areas for me personally, the background of the area would lag and multiply and block the screen. Now it wasn't too big of a deal for me, because it never happened say, during a boss fight. And when it did happen, it would usually go away after I walked around a bit.

*This is the big one, I don't know if this only happened to me personally. But my saves got reset by two and a half hours. Made multiple saves, had about four and a half hours into it, game crashed, the saves reset to two hours previously. So I had to go back and redo everything I had already done. I was furious to say the least, despite that, it hasn't happened again, yet.

*I have a couple instances of doors glitching, and I can't walk into a building, I end up having to reload. Again, not really a big deal because I save VERY OFTEN now.

Overall the game is still very good. For anyone who is considering playing this, here are some tips.
SAVE OFTEN, that is very important to make sure that nothing bad happens to you. USE MULTIPLE SAVE SLOTS, I use every save slot when I save, does it take a few more seconds when saving? Sure, but I'd rather spend those extra seconds getting reassurance that my game is going to function correctly. IF THIS IS YOUR FIRST TIME PLAYING OR THE FIRST TIME IN A LONG TIME, USE A GUIDE WHEN NEEDED, there we're a few places I needed a guide, but again, its been so long, I forgot everything and it was just a little confusing at times.

In the end the games issues we're mostly technical and I had almost no issues with the gameplay itself. So I can absolutely say that this game is recommended. Just on a personal basis I do have to deduct some points because of the technical issues. But overall I would say, it gets a 8/10 from me. If this game looks good to you, try it out.

The game was built for use with a controller so if you have one it is an excellent game. If you don't have a controller it is still a good game but controls can be a little frustrating with a mouse and keyboard.
