What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“As it is now, Super Dungeon Run is completely playable from start to finish (as well as being hugely fun), but it is our intention to release initially through Steam’s Early Access. This gives us the opportunity to fully flesh out the game as we envision it and make it a truly satisfying experience.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We anticipate that it will take approximately 3-6 months to complete everything we hope to complete as part of the Early Access period. However, we're the sort of studio that takes quality very seriously, so will not come out of Early Access if we are not fully satisfied with the state of the game at that time.

It is our intention to keep you well informed by posting regular updates and announcements about the current state of the game!”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We hope to expand the game in the following ways:

  • Graphics - Adding dynamic lighting and shadows will not only make the game look fantastic, but will also open up new gameplay possibilities; traps may be hidden in the darkness and monsters will lurch at the party from the shadows.
  • Outfits - New costumes for your heroes to wear!
  • Magic - New magic! Imagine raining down a meteor storm on your enemies, or frying them with a lightning strike!
  • Enemies - Expect to see more rank and file creatures as well as unique boss monsters!
  • Environments - New monsters will need new places to call home, so adding more dungeon types is a no-brainer.
  • Quests - A greater variety of quests increases the lifespan of the game and keeps things fresh and interesting.
  • Abilities - New abilities and special moves for the heroes. Anyone familiar with skills in MOBAs or MMOs will immediately understand how these would work and how they can introduce endless tactics and strategies.
  • Deaths - Super Dungeon Run should be funny even when your heroes die. If you’ve seen the cartoon violence of Itchy and Scratchy, you’ll know what we mean!
  • Steamworks - Steam specific content like achievements and trading cards.

It's important to remember that, despite our best intentions, some or all of these features might not make it into the game. Again, we really want to make the very best game we can for you, but can only do that if the game is successful enough for us to continue development on it.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game is fully playable and stable right now. Currently the game includes:

  • The village - a central hub that includes shops and upgrades
  • Main quests - special tasks the player can perform for rewards
  • Side quests - side tasks the player can perform for extra EXP
  • Party leveling system - levels that boost various stats
  • Hero outfits - adventuring classes that the villagers can become
  • Items - magic consumables
  • Crafting - stat upgrades to outfits and items
  • How to play - tutorials to educate the player
  • Credits - who made the game
  • User Interface - the interface that allows the player to interact with the game
  • Dungeons - environments in which the main game takes place
  • Enemies - adversaries the player will encounter
  • Traps - hazards the player will encounter
  • Chests - containers that the player can get things from
  • Doors - barriers for the player to open
  • Props - furniture and dressing for the environments
  • Audio - music and sound effects the player hears across the game
  • Loot - valuables collected by the player
  • Steamplay - Linux and Mac versions of the game

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price during Early Access will be lower than when the game leaves Early Access and is officially released. The price may or may not gradually rise as we add more content and features during the Early Access period. The best thing to do is buy as early as possible to be certain of getting the cheapest price!”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We are very keen to engage with the community that Super Dungeon Run is attracting. We want it to be a fun, inclusive place for players to hang out and talk about the game.

We have a strong vision for the development of Super Dungeon Run, but we really want to hear feedback and suggestions from the community on all aspects of the game. For example, if there is overwhelming support for a player requested feature or piece of content, we would be stupid not to listen to the fans!”

About This Game

Super Dungeon Run is a fast paced, addictive action game in which you guide a party of hapless heroes on a quest for loot in the depths of a dark and dangerous dungeon!

You’ll always start off with a small group of peasants. Here they are, the little scamps:

The peasants aren’t… how shall I put this… the smartest of individuals, but they’re a merry bunch and are always eager to please! They like nothing better than a good dungeon run, but sadly, they’re not very good at it.

That’s where you come in! Try and get them to the exit stairs safely. Everything else is a bonus as far as I’m concerned!

  • Super Dungeon Run is a massively single player roguelike RPG! It is designed to be accessible and addictive. It’s part Diablo, part Temple Run and part Pikmin.
  • Different every time! Semi-procedural levels mean no two dungeon runs will be the same.
  • Epic equipment! Unlocking new outfits and potions for your heroes will greatly improve their strength and capabilities, allowing them to get deeper into the dungeon for greater rewards.
  • Deadly traps and dangerous monsters! Encounter all manner of creatures and contraptions that are focused solely on your premature demise in a variety of violent (and usually messy) ways.
  • Multiple dungeon types! Discover multiple dungeons and their various inhabitants, such as the musty, mildewy cellar, or the eerie, enigmatic crypt.
  • Exciting content! Complete quests for colourful characters or see how far down into the dungeon you can make it. Will you discover what lurks in the deep dark depths?
  • Get loot! Make your fortune by pilfering gold from the dank denizens of the dungeon and discover valuable materials to craft upgrades for your heroes.
  • Level up your party! Gain experience and stop your heroes from spectacularly dying in the dungeon… for a while anyway!

As it is now, Super Dungeon Run is completely playable from start to finish (as well as being hugely fun). By releasing initially through Steam’s Early Access, we gain the opportunity to fully flesh out the game as we envision it. We plan to expand the game in the following ways:

  • Steamworks - Steam specific content like achievements and trading cards as well as Linux and Mac versions of the game.

We really want to make Super Dungeon Run the very best game we can for you guys, so please support us by telling other people about it! The more successful the game is, the more we can keep updating it! And don’t forget to hit 'follow' for updates!

We are also very keen to hear your thoughts and feedback about Super Dungeon Run, so please feel free to post in the Community Hub! We'll be keeping a close eye on it, so you can be sure we'll see your messages!

For anyone stumbling across this game within the depths of Steam, do not buy.

This project is dead, the forums are dead, the dev that had been updating the game is no longer a part of Proper Games, and thus no longer works on the game. It's unclear if someone else was supposed to take over, but no one ever did and the game now sits in limbo. Avoid this.

Don't buy unless it's 99 cents. Developper is gone, just like their website is gone too: http://www.proper-games.com

Game can get repetitive quickly, for 99 cents you'll have 3-5 hours of fun but don't expect more.

While game is playable and was looking promising,I just cannot accept the fact one day developper was active in forums then the next day he's gone without saying a word. Was patient but months have passed and now I have to resign. How come anyone can start a project in early access, collect money and be gone without finishing it and giving support?

That was the first time I was buying an "early access" title and that was the last time too. I tried to get a refund but Steam don't care at all, they only reply with canned answers, shame on you Steam, horrible support. You see a small 5 hours of playtime for which most playtime was to help developper with feedback, then he patch game and ask for more inputs, that's part of the developpement timeframe. Early access projects should not be restricted to 2 hours of gameplay for a refund.

This is an oddly cute game.
As much as it is frustrating, it has awesome gameplay, and the cutest of little serfs running around.
Basically you need to ctonrol a "horde" of serfs, (albeit a smallish horde...) and they are not the most inteligent when it comes to manouvering around hazards.
The floors are littered with traps, that slice, splice, smash, incinerate and blow up your minions!
There is a puzzle elemnt to it, but most of it is just storming right into it.
Trying to beat the time is difficult, and I get a lot of "too slow" finished levels.
I have to yet get to the main quest object, although I have been able to spot it, shortly before my minions get decimated.
Well, I expect to have success sometime in the near future. (Being the 1st of January, I do hope it will be this year still. )
I would suggest this game to anyone that wants a bit of quick gameplay, without too much RPG like thinking. It is ideal for short burst sessions, if you don't have too much time!
If you don't sport this game in your stable yet, GET IT NOW!

** Key was provided by developer for review purposes **

Super Dungeon Run

Super Dungeon Run is a fast paced, addicting game. In the game you control your greedy gold loving heroes fighting through dungeons, and dying to traps and enemies for a bit of loot. I will add a TL;DR at the end.

Gameplay/Controls

The controls are very simple as you use your mouse to guide you greedy heroes through the dungeon and use the 1, 2, and 3 keys to activate potions to help your heroes out.

The gameplay is very enjoyable. You start off with a set number of greedy peasants (you will know why I say "greedy" after) and fight through a dungeon to collect loot. In the game you can accept quest with the first one being to steal back a watermelon. The dungeons consist of floors which are anywhere from 10 seconds to 3 minutes long. As you continue to play this game you will unlock more heroes, more potions, and more quests in which you will get your butt kicked a bit. A key thing to note is that the heroes are very, VERY, greedy. More than a couple times a few coins would be lying around, and my heroes would run to the coins getting themselves, and most of my other heroes killed because of their greed. If you go too far away from one hero they will no longer be part of your party and you will need to go back to get them. In the game there are 7 different types of heroes (including peasants) and 4 different types of potion.

Graphics/Sound

The graphics are cartoony and seem a bit paper-like as of now. The area and village are rendered as a more 3D structure. The units are each unique in their design and very enjoyable to play. The music is done amazingly in this game. The music actually reminded me of an old game I used to play. Either way the music is very enjoyable.

Pros/Cons

Pros

+ Good music
+ Quick-paced
+ Simple
+ Quests are fun
+ Rewards you as you play and level up
+ Potions are fairly balanced
+ 7 different heroes and 4 different potions
+ Great art style

Cons

- Easy to lose a hero
- Slight grind
- Death is tasteless (they just flop over no matter what)

Suggestions

These are my personal suggestions for the game. My suggestions do not need to be taken seriously as they are my personal opinion for hopefully adding to the game to make it better.

- Controller Support
- Customization of heroes (different weapons and articles of clothing to choose from)

Final Thoughts

I have greatly enjoyed my time playing Super Dungeon Run. I have seen what the developer hopes to add and I am looking forward to it (especially funny deaths). The quests are nice and it was fun to play through this game. The only bad things that nudged at me was how easy it was to lose a hero, and how the heroes’ greed got me killed more than a few times. Overall I'm happy to have had the chance to play this early access game.

TL;DR

Super Dungeon Runner is fast-paced with floors in a dungeon ranging from 10 seconds to 3 minutes. The controls are simple as you only use your mouse and the 1, 2, and 3 keys. There are quests, potions, and of course your little dungeon running heroes in this game (7 heroes and 4 potions). The heroes are a bit greedy sometimes getting themselves killed for some coins. You fight through dungeon, gain money, get heroes and potions, upgrade said potions with crafting, and upgrade heroes as you level up. Truly fun and quick, Super Dungeon Runner is already a great game. Just in case you can check the features list to see if anything has been added since the time of this review.

Super Dungeon Run is a simple one-button mouse dungeon rush with a lot of fun features, such as:

  • Variety of loot to collect.
  • Leveling yourself and also your heroes.
  • Craft new potions, units, items.
  • Main quest and side quests.
  • Talent tree.
  • Accessible price.

The game seems to be a little easy by now. But, hey, it's a early access game. Difficult and other things might change.

In general I'd recommend you to buy this game since this concept is awesome and I'm really looking forward for it's final version.

Would you dare vicious traps, monsters, and inevitable death all for some shiny loot and gold? Well the peasants in Super Dungeon Run would! SDR is a strange mash up of roguelike, endless runner and RPG. There are quests, upgrades, and plenty of randomly generated death rooms, and of course delicious amounts of treasure! As your peasants run and collect gold you will begin collecting upgrades in the form of potions and costumes. These allow your peasants to become much more extraordinary and wield incredible abilities, such as the Sorceroress or the mighty Knight. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of replay value and depth SDR has for it's adorable simple graphics and gameplay. I wasn't expecting things like crafting, class upgrades and skill trees. Where things need more polish is in the dungeon running itself. Let me be clear, everything works very well while running, you unlock potions, classes and move your poor adventurers about in a hilarious drunken wave. The problem is there is a bit of lack of interaction when the action kicks in. You kinda just sit there and watch what happens. Using a potion occasionally to help your adventurers out of a jam. However, things like class abilities and spells are already planned for final release and will more then likely take care of this aspect. In all Super Dungeon Run for it's price is an absolute steal and highly recommended to those looking for a funny and relaxing roguelike.

I made a video preview to show off some of the features and gameplay of this game!
https://youtu.be/uuA-r8oMOMM
I hope you enjoy!

A fun little try until you guy dungeon crawl game. You can level up, slowly, and get more stuff and get deeper into the dungeon, etc. repeat repeat.

It plays like a pay to play game with the xp walls and they will kill this game if they ever do that. I got this in a bundle for less than $1 and it is worth that. At full price, it is barely a thumbs up.

bundle - 8/10
full price - 5/10

I bought this game after i saw a video of it online and i love it. Altough i think its great it still has some downsides i want to list.

- not enough upgrades (5 upgrades per character)
- upgrades not visible (would be cool to see some changes to the characters after upgrading)
- the resource balance is broken (the first 20 lvls you are always hurting for something after that you have tons of that stuff and cant even spent it)
- you are somewhat forced to do the same dungeon over and over again because the quest dungeons never change and you dont want to miss out on the extra XP because this will be your limiting factor after lvl 20

Everything else seems fine to me for an Early Access Game. I played it for about 4-5 hours and could finish the Game (all upgrades /lvl 32) in 1 more hour. So you get about 1hr of Gametime per buck which is a realy good deal. Plus you can play freemode without quest and random generated dungeons to see how far you can go.

In it's current state, I can definitely recommend it.
I mean, c'mon...for the price of a Wendonaldby's fast-food meal, I've had almost 6 hours of entertaining and addictive gameplay. I've done all the available quests but still have a few more levels to unlock, so it does have a decent amount of replayability already.

Normally I'm very wary of early access games in general, but 2 things about this one:
1. Got it in a bundle for a few bucks.
2. Is more complete than many games that graduate from early access to full release.

As for the reviewer that mentioned something something grind blah blah... I very quickly (maybe <2 hours played) had more than enough gold/crafting materials than I could even use. If I had one complaint right now, it'd be that it's almost too easy to gain the resources needed for upgrades.

There's a ton of potential here. Could really be something great if the dev takes into consideration some of the suggestions on the forum.

So yeah, go ahead and get your gross burger and old stale french fries and regret it later when you need to run to the toilet.
OR, get this. Cause you won't regret this!

Super Dungeon Run is a Hack & Slash / RPG Dungeon Video Game.

It's a basic dungeon Run game that has some really nice upgrades systems to it.
Funny game with not a good and big story mode.
It plays very well and it will give you as a gamer very hard challenge keeping your group together between dungeon runs..
Really fun and frustrating game to play and give you many hours of fun.
What really dissapoints me the most is a support for a controller because I think playing this game with a controller makes it much better playable.
There are no steam cards so there is no badge to be made :(

It's still a early acces when I played and made my review so some thing hope to changed on the way.
Fun game and with some changes this can be a great game so keep on the good work Devs.

For now I give it a 6/10 score.
