Half-Life 2: Episode One continues the story of Half-Life 2 with another adventure of Gordon Freeman and Alyx. The story picks up right away after the original game and offers more of the same as the original. There's nothing really new to note here besides some new enemies and a level that puts good use of the flashlight; you also have Alyx by your side the entire time - which allows for some unique gameplay, such as not firing any bullets and only using the gravity gun. Episode One is somewhat short, I was able to complete the game in ~3 hours.

It was going to be hard to follow up on the epic story of the original, however I guess it's not bad, just not grate.
They needed to add a new gameplay elliment of atleast a few new weapons, but they did not.
7/10 missed opportunity by the developers to really continue the ground braking work they started.

HλLF-LIFE 2: EPISODE ONE
It's just as good as Half-life 2
It continues just after the events of Half-life 2.
It's still great and also has a brand new enemy.
It may be a bit short, I mean, I beat it in 4 hours.
But hey, it's an episode.
9.9/10 It's bloody Half-life 2 man.

Half Life 2: Episode One, was and is an amazing game! Although I finished it in 3 hours, it was an important part of the story. In this Episode you can see what the Combine do to Humans, I'm not going to say anything but argh its creepy. Is it worth the $7.99? I'd say no. If it were $4.99 (Because of how short it is) it would have been more suitable for the game I think. However, it you want to play though all of Half Life 2, Get this game, trust me it is a important part of the story. SPOILER WARNING - Amazing game but it doesn't wrap up Half Life 2, it also ends on yet another cliff hanger.
7 / 10

Half-Life 2: Episode One is a great continuation of the story from the base game of Half-Life 2. You pick up right where you left off, in the Combine HQ, otherwise known as the Citadel. It's fairly short, ranging anywhere from 2.5-3.5 hours in length. Now, let's see how this episode differs from its parent game.

Episode One, in my opinion, is slightly more focused on storytelling than the original campaign. Please don't get me wrong though, as the gameplay was still heavily featured, with some menial improvements as well. As explanation for Episode One's extra focus on narrative progression, I'd say that, if you pay attention, you'll have a solid amount of your questions from the previous games answered in this expansion. In the way of gameplay improvements, I'll simply say that there were some nice new mechanics and a little bit of gameplay refinement. Another great difference was that you spend almost all of your time with Alyx in Episode One, and she really becomes fully fleshed out and even more likeable than she was already. The last difference I noticed were the faintly improved graphics in the form of lighting and reflection, as HDR was present in this episode, but was not in the base game. All in all, Half-Life 2: Episode One makes some minor enhancements across the board to an already wonderful game, all the while continuing the plot effectively. Other than that, the majority of what was stated in my review of Half-Life 2 (the base game) is still true to Episode One too. It’s of the same quality and thus deserves the same personal rating I bestowed on its predecessor.

Personal Rating: 10/10

They gave me more Half Life 2, with more Alyx and better graphics. I took it with pleasure. And wanted it to be so much longer because the gun play and physics are so much fun to fool around.

I always thought "Half-Life 2: Episode 1" was a strange name for the continuation of the plot of Half Life 2 and a little undeserving in my opinion. After the hanging thread in Half Life 2, you progress the plot as Gordon Freeman once more to escape City 17 with Alyx Vance before it's reactor goes critical. The game itself can be beat in a little under 2 hours, but it's a DLC so I'll let it slide. Oh yeah: Cliffhanger ending- Check.

Pretty short review; not much to say here.

I rate Half-Life 2: Episode 1 with a 7/10

Wait for it to go on sale before you buy it; I don't think it's worth $8, but the choice is yours.
Until next review!

I have been playing the game for years and now it won't start. Hope to get some help here as I have been unable to contact steam for assistance. Since they control access to the game it would be nice if it was easier to contact them for help. If there is a way, I have not found it. Maybe someone will see this and I can get some help because both episode one and two will not start.
