Nightshift Code is a hidden object game where you take on the role of Mike, a security night guard at a museum in Chicago. As Mike is working one night, there is an intruder who attempts to steal an artifact-a papyrus, to be exact-and Mike catches her, Isabel. She then tells him that she has information about Mike's father, who has been missing for two years, and that if he wants to know more, he has to find her, leaving only a single clue for him.

So that's basically, the story. You play as Mike, finding Isabel and then going to certain locations to search for Mike's father (although Isabel does have another agenda that doesn't get revealed until later in the game).

The gameplay is mainly finding hidden objects so as you travel from one location to another, you have to find various objects. In addition, there are puzzles where you have to decipher what certain symbols mean, which can then be used to figure out the messages that have been left behind.

As to my opinion of this game, I liked the story although it did feel a little on the short side. There are six chapters and if you've played HOGs before, then you'll find yourself finishing this one pretty quickly. The gameplay was fun. I liked the mix of puzzle deciphering in addition to the HOG element. There is one critique I need to make and this might be useful for anyone thinking of buying this game. I encountered a technical bug during one of the HOG scenes. Even though I found all of the objects, the game wouldn't let me progress in story so I had to start over. As there is only an autosave function (you can't save whenever you like), I found this a little annoying. However, you can get around this bug if you make sure that you don't exit the game when there is only one object left to find. I made sure that whenever I did need to exit the game, I would start a brand new scene where I hadn't found anything and thus, I never encountered that bug again.

I liked the art style as well. It was in the comic book style and the story was told using it, which I found to be fun. The ending was good as well although as I said, it is a bit on the short side. However, there is a sequel to this game, which I will be playing in the future. (One other thing I forgot to mention is that when I played this game, I played it in story mode. However, there is arcade mode where the objective is to find as many objects within a time limit. I have yet to try this out although it would be fun for anyone who wants to continue playing even after the story mode is finished.) Overall, Nightshift Code is a fun HOG and I'd recommend it for those who like this kind of game. ^^

I would call this a "Search & Click" game. Enjoyable at first, especially when you realize that you don't know what the said object even looks like because it's the first time you have ever encountered it. Great diversion but lacking it really hooking me in for the finish.

Like Where's Waldo combined with Indiana Jones games, Nightshift code is a fun causal game.
