How can I explain this game? It is a fun shooter to play when you got nothing else to play. This is one of my favorite games right now and I can see myself playing this for more than 100 hours in the future. Starting will be very frustrating, since it has a pretty steep learning curve due to the fact you will die very quickly and the hitboxs are not quite right yet. Give this game a try (I mean, it's free). Get used to it for a bit then judge after spending some time with it. This game has some great potential, I hope they improve it to get more players in. If you can, watch the anime to get a feel of what this game is based off. I hope they add some background story from the anime to the game in later updates.

(Short version in my honest critique - CSGO with cool toys and mechanics. Feel a bit suffocated in the sense that you have a cybernetic body it doesn't feel right to be forced to stay on the ground floor not being able to scale walls, climb up to the very top of roofs, just made a generic online fps. What a waste but I still enjoy it.)

I'd still recommend it to friends that are fans of the show, tbh. I'm having fun just slightly disappointed.

I originally learned about Ghost In The Shell and I was young and watching Adultswim, it was one of the first anime to start me on the path.

This game I didn't have high hopes for from the video trailers and some reviews but in all honesty I'm having fun.
Looks good, sounds good, loving the actual dubbed voice actors and you can even play those very characters from the show.

The bit that's a little bit disappointing is that after watching the anime and then learning that there would be an online game based on and THAT'S AMAZING. But the disappointing factor is that it feels like a rehashed online shooter game.
After playing a few hours I've come to the realization that it feels like CSGO but pretty and more toys to play with and neat character mechanics.

The things I was honestly expecting was something akin to games like S4 League or GunZ, even Wolfteam online had better roam mechanics being that you can cling and climb along walls and such, S4 League being able to free roam on top of buildings, destroying bits and pieces of the map, GunZ being super action paced still being free roam (mostly) on the map.

Very fun first impression. It feels like a middle ground between CSGO and Call of Duty.

The mouse fidelity does feel like its over rewarding hitboxes, which favors aggressive players that think fast and move to find targets to kill quickly.

Makes for some fun as a FPS in the Ghost of the Shell world. I hope release will show some more map variety outside of control point + giant robot, demolition, and team deathmatch.

It would be a huge plus if there was a mode that allowed control of the robot. I think the game in its current state would be around 75% to 80% in my opinion. Game has fun replay value now, but has potential to me something more if they can push past the same gamemodes we have seen time and again in these FPS games.

Only good to kill time with and for the steam cards. Hit-Box is only off on some weapons, Funny how even with mostly everything on high stats for a sniper Weapon the Hit-Box is still off even a hip shot or a leg shot wont connect.

Been playing for a while now. Just got it on steam but had a good 30+ hours on the Nexon closed beta.

As far as Ghost In the Shell theme goes, it's pretty good. The voice acting, environments, sounds and lore is all there. As for a free to play shooter, I actually enjoy it and the new stealth mode is quite interesting and dare I say, at times quite intense.

CONS:

There's a few quirks and glitches to be fixed, additional maps to be added and probably loads of extra features but for what we have now, it works well. As in any games, Team Deathmatch works well while objective based gameplay brings out the most ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ human beings on the field. Something tells me, this game was supposed to be much more complex but devs soon realised that this generation is really incapable of comprehending objectives.

It's Nexon and we all know how they love the grind... Everything is free if you're willing to work for it...

It's Nexon and we all know how they suck at explaining things properly... Your best bet is to explore each menu and carefully review each options. Gun upgrades, Character upgrades and so on are really important.

PROS:

The starting gear is nice and I found myself doing 20+ kills against really high level players. The game favors positioning and a bit of tactics. So far, not a single map offers a camp corner.

When it works, it shines... When you have a team working together, using their Tier 2 skills, sharing abilities and kills. Man, this game actually works great. It's quite a rush to have an entire cloacked squad ready for a full enemy team wipe ambush. Skills are limited with long cooldowns but a welcome addition to a firefight.

At this moment, this is the smoothest gameplay you'll get from a Free To Play FPS. It feels heavy, fluid and for the most part, precise.

Overall, this is a fun game.

Yet another game released before it's ready, and subsequently lambasted by the community while still in Early Access. Honestly, I don't know why these companies even bother. Is the increased revenue generated during the Early Access period really worth having legions of unhappy players vote the game down with their reviews?

Anyway, the truth is that this is a great game. Yes, it has had problems, but only because it was in beta and those problems were not fixed yet. The good news is that the developers are releasing patches like crazy and have already fixed most of its biggest problems (particularly with lag and hit registration), and continue to release quality content like new maps, new operatives, new weapons, and additional customization options. The development of this game is progressing very fast, and every patch has only improved a game that was quite solid to begin with.

If you know nothing about this game, rest assured that it is a solid shooter with some unique mechanics, although admittedly it does recycle some elements from other games. For example, the bombing missions are almost identical to the ones in Counter-Strike, and the Terminal Conquest mode is basically the same as the Symmetrical Point Control mode from Team Fortress 2. It also does have standard Team Deathmatch and a unique game mode called Ghost Assault, with likely more game modes on the way.

This game is not going to win high points for originality, but does that make it any less fun? Not at all. The shooting feels good, the skills feel good, and the level progression is satisfying. It delivers everything you'd want in a team-based shooter. I've logged over one hundred hours and I have enjoyed every minute of it.

For the price tag of zero, you can hardly do better than that.

Decent amount of weapons and upgrades (for a beta) , each character have a unique skill that will help the team (some skill can be shared with at max 3 ally) or do the work depending of the mode you play wich are pretty generic so you won't get lost if you have played an FPS in your life.

6 server that are working good so far unlike Metal gear solid 5: TPP or Metal Gear Online 3 (If you have the game you can feel my pain).

The game is still in BETA so it as it flaws but with some time it should get better but since it's a BETA it can only get better.... right ?

Graphics: Excellent graphics for a free to play. The lighting engine is subpar, but the character models are well representative of the series and very solid. There is a surprising amount of "gore" for this title, despite it mostly being cybernetic gore, it was still quite interesting to see the damage our guns do to the bodies.

Gameplay: Gameplay is reminiscent of CSGO which is probably a given. Hit detection is fairly spot on with some iffy instances here and there. The iffyness is probably a sideeffect of the boost system in which you can enhance various aspects of your gameplay, which creates very slightly different encounters which may throw off your sense of judgement.

Pay to win?: I'd say this is a negatory here. Pay-to-win is a term thrown about way too easily by incompetant masses. Pay-to-win is when a paying user will be and always will be better than a non playing character. If you can pop a cap in a rich dude and his head explodes, chances are this isn't pay to win. And there are lots of exploding heads.

Cons:
-There are some hackers. Some of them try to be sneaky. keep an eye out for them.
-The User Interface is cluttered to hell and confusing.
-The item descriptions are terrible.
-Missions don't feel very rewarding.
-They should implement an enemy-version cosmetic, so enemies can see your sense of style.
-the dive mode video is obnoxious

P.S. Try out ghost assault. It's kind of scary in a fun way.

...About sick cyborg action and punchy guns.
ALSO LONG REVIEW

GITS: SAC - FAO is a fun little shooter with just enough cyberpunk and just enough of everything to make it feel close to a shooter that distinguishes itself from its competition.
As a F2P shooter, it does so rather well.

Graphics are pretty nice, with a tinge of PS2-ness that may or may not charm you. Environments have little details that don't cause much distraction, and the world geometry is fun to traverse for the most part. However, the lack of player ragdolls on death has a tendency to cause you to clip through stuff when you die, which is a bit immersion-breaking.

Guns have pleasant firing noises and everything packs a solid punch, from your dinky pistol to the heavy-hitting LMGs. At the very least, everything feels like it can kill, and generally can providing you can hit your targets.
Gunplay is a somewhat peculiar mix of COD and CSGO, with aiming down sights providing you a CSGO-esque firing pattern that you can try to compensate for in the brief twitch moment. While a bit frustrating that you can't just blast people on picking the game up, it does encourage more skilled play than running and gunning like a maniac.

Overall, most guns are balanced, with some exceptions feeling like they might be more potent than they should be due to the attachment system.
Said attachment system allows you to modify the damage, recoil, and other aspects of your weapons. This can cause shotguns to have a higher one hit kill range, with the same applying to sniper rifles, which is only a bit upsetting.
That, and a bipod decreases recoil on your guns even though you don't actually set up on anything, so that's a bit silly.

At least they actually added the Seburo gun from the animu.

The skill system provides another unique aspect of the game, making it similar to the powerhouse that is Overwatch, allowing you to have skills that can also be shared to "change the tide of battle", or something to that effect.
Effects range from pinging a wallhack to being able to just fire an instant kill rocket from your arm, so there's a generally wide variety to choose from. Nanogel armor is a bit ridiculous, but aim for the head, I guess.

The game is not without flaws, as you likely surmised from the Mixed reception.
  • Certain maps cause spawn trapping rather readily if one team is particularly skilled, others have partially broken spawns that cause you to get mowed down out of the gate despite being scattered around.
  • Map design also has inconsistent levels of enjoyment, with some having excellent pacing and are set up with dynamic hotzones in mind, while others suffer from the tedium of being in the same areas and shooting people there again and again.
  • Also, the game modes are not currently separated, so the playlist is dependent on what people vote for. Good luck getting into the Demolition/Terminal Conquest modes, which I personally find cater to the game's aesthetic far more than just mowing people down/getting mowed down in TDM.
  • While they did improve hit detection, the server/client connection can occasionally cause opponents to slide around a bit, making shooting a bit frustrating.
  • Microtransactions are pretty expensive.

Regardless, the game has improved over a decent amount of time, with feedback constantly being reviewed and changes being implemented on a fairly regular basis, which is something to appreciate.
While I haven't put all that much time into the game, it's still something I enjoy picking up to play, and with it being F2P, there's not really a reason not to give it a shot for a couple hours.

    Dive, dive, dive.

Awesome and fun game, I like it most of all because player skill is very important and is not about paying to have the ultimate weapon that OPs everyother player (it helps tho). There are a lot o f higher level players with big nasty firearms with a poor Kill/death ratio, so, don't be afraid to try it out.

Almost forgot to say that I'm a big fan of Ghost in the Shell, this game offers a lot of fan service and is consistent with the anime/ova timeline and plot.

A mediocre FPS. If you're looking for solid game mechanics or to be immersed in the world of Ghost in the Shell, you won't find them here. The art, music, and voice teams are on point, but this game fumbles on the essentials. Hit registration, hit boxes, weapon changing, indication of how/what is happening when things don't operate intuitively, and more are just BAD.

Other than that, it's just another speedball fps. The special abilities used by the operatives are lackluster, half of them are useless, and there's not enough map or weapon variety for it to really matter.

There's also a huge missed opportunity to bring Ghost in the Shell and it's world to life. It's just a skin -- this could be Counter Strike of Duty Source for all it matters.

"Waaa this alpha now beta game that doesn't cost anything isn't done yet and expects us to beta test in the beta, waaaa things cost money, waaa I'm bad at shooter games and anyone that's good is ptw or hacking".

I just summed up a lot of negative reviews this game gets. Yes, it's a game in beta, so not all the features are added in yet. Certain parts of the beta are in alpha, namely Ghost Assault mode, which does need a lot of work till it's ready to go, but, you know, it's in alpha.

It plays like CS, so if you don't like twitchy shooters, you won't like the game. Otherwise, the coat of GitS Brand Paint they slapped on it is really good: all the VAs are back to be their characters, the guns look and sound real nice, and the graphics are stellar for a game that costs as much as this one does (do you get the joke). Very well optomized too, like, MGSV good.

Does it have latancy issues? Occasionally, but the servers are surprisingly robust, and you can switch servers whenever you want. Hit detection used to be a big problem, but they fixed that after enough people pointed it out, you know, like we're supposed to. Certain guns need a bit of balancing, but the morons calling for damage drop off over range (for the guns they don't like/get killed by the most) are bad at video games and think guns are melee weapons.

Chipsets need work to be worth your time outside of a few specific ones, and they need to pull back the slow inflation in prices they have going. Either that, or make the event rates for exp and money standard. Incentives for leveling up above roughly level 14-16 need to be added VERY BADLY.

Abilities in general probably need to be looked at again, but aside from the turret and EMP, none of them are actually useless, though the rocket and sprint are pretty situational.

The biggest complaint I have is that this game has too few maps. Even worse, most maps can only be played in one or two of the modes! You'll become very familiar with Neon Waste (good map) and PSS9 (controversial map) in particular. However, all of the maps are (imo of course) very well balanced for both teams in the modes they appear in, so maybe having that is worth waiting for.

You have three modes plus one. TDM is obvious, pretty fun, the maps for it are really, really good. Terminal Conquest (territory control?) is fun, you get to summon Tachikomas to shoot people (their AI needs work), maps are really fun, maybe not as good as TDM though. Demolition is CS:GO mode, exactly what you'd expect from it. The maps for it aren't unique, and they are pretty dubiously fun, though they're still pretty well balanced. Ghost Assault is a bizzare The Hidden type thing, hide and seek between uneven teams. It shares one map with Demo, and has one unique map, and you always want the unique one.

The community is... well, it's the internet, isn't it? Sometimes it'll be good, sometimes it'll be as much of a wasteland as any other competative shooter. No idea what the game can do about that, but some people seem to think it's Nexon's fault.

Other minor things: The daily tasks need wooooork, or at least boosted rewards, but it's nicer to have them than to not have them. People complain about how lower level playes can kill higher level ones because somehow being balanced in that way isn't a Very Good Thing. UI needs work, but it isn't as bad as a lot of people say if you're willing to spend five seconds just reading through it and learning it. The ingame lore needs to be expanded, and item descriptions need to be rewritten in some cases.

To sum up, good game that needs work, and it looks like the work is happening. Worth your time, good game to drop in and out of in a lunch break. Don't spend more than 10bux on it, though.

Was waiting on this game for quite some time it is sad it's just another boring generic twitch shooter. If you like those things it is more of the same with a ghost in the shell skin. The only part I sort of liked was the tachikoma summons but they were only in one game mode it seems. Didn't notice any bugs, ran smooth, and servers were stable. It is a really nice game just not the game I was expecting and wanted it to be.
