(Difficulty) Update!

Greetings, dear divers...

Since Narcosis launched (nearly a year ago!) we've received quite a bit of praise, and not a few criticisms. In particular, there's one key level midway through the game that's a little less... explicit in its instructions, as to where to go, and how to get there. Those of you who've played it may remember the eighth level - fittingly called "FOLLOW PROCEDURE" - in which the Survivor finds himself (even more) lost and directionless, after an... unexpected encounter.

Having read your feedback, and watched dozens of streams, we got the gang back together to try and make this particular section just a little bit easier. Narcosis is - at its dark heart - a survivor's story, and we hate to think that some of you might opt not to reach the (bitter? sweet?) conclusion, on account of some poor game balancing.

If all that is too cryptic, a transcript of the change log is pasted below. Nothing too spoiler-y, but it's redacted, just in case...

Whether its your first time playing, or if you're going through again to try and uncover some of the many, many secrets we've stashed deep beneath the sea, we hope you'll enjoy the journey, and share your thoughts with us.

Finally, the one-year anniversary of the game's release is approaching. With that in mind, we've got a few more exciting announcements incoming... So watch this space!

Change Log:

+ Changed start point
+ Changed blinking light depending of that new position (it disappears in the desert... That's normal)
+ Changed some fishes' paths
+ Added new trigger for spider in the desert
+ Added some path to go to the other side
+ Added anemones glowing in order to lure player to the other side
+ Changed a bit the slide of the volcanoes to better trap player
+ Made easier to climb the new way from the volcano to the exit

Calling all survivors... Calling all survivors...

Thanks to everyone who's played Narcosis so far; we're so grateful for your support. Now, a quick question for those who have completed the game:
  • What would you like to see in a "Special Edition," if such a thing were possible?
  • Are there any rough edges that really stuck out?
  • Questions left unanswered?
  • Extras you'd like to see?
Hope you'll share some thoughts, but - please - keep 'em spoiler-free!

(P.S. in case you missed it, there's an accompanying book, but you'll want to hold off on reading it until you've beaten the game, for sure...)

“...So much more than a few gimmicky jump-scares. A beautifully written, immersive psychological thriller which tells a compelling, tragic story... Narcosis is a shining example of a psychological thriller done right, and a must play for any horror junkie.”

“...Well paced and immersive ... Every facet of Narcosis feels singular, from the surprising narrative to the well rendered, unique setting. The foreboding sense of dread and unpredictability makes for one of the most exceptional survival horror gaming experiences.”
8/10 – Modern Horrors

“...a unique experience that grabs you and doesn’t let go until the very end... Narcosis is a triumph, managing to get under your skin and stay there long after you’ve put the pad down.”

About This Game

Survival, horror at the sunless depths of the Pacific Ocean: Stranded on the seafloor with low light and few tools, an industrial diver takes desperate steps to surface before his oxygen — and sanity — give out.

Conceived as a student project, this first person survival story unfolds following an industrial catastrophe, from inside a half-ton, high-tech dive suit — a “walking coffin." Influenced and inspired by a growing appetite for unconventional horror and narrative-driven games, Narcosis is rooted in reality, but steeped in the surreal.

Features:
  • Pressure Kills: High-stress situations accelerate oxygen intake, distorting sight, sound, space and time.
  • Hostile Waters: A knife, flashlight and flares are essential to surviving the nightmarish flora and fauna of the abyss.
  • Phantom Narrative: The survivor’s account unfolds in inexplicable ways alongside the player’s journey.
  • Beyond Good and Evil: No shadowy organizations or eldritch terrors at Narcosis’ dark heart, only primal fears and human limits.
  • Terror Verite: Primal fears — darkness, confinement and isolation — take on new levels of immersion when experienced in VR.

About Honor Code:
Based in France and California, Honor Code’s collective resume includes such games and series as Assassin’s Creed, Dance Central, Metal Gear Solid, Remember Me, Republique, The Silent Age, and Silent Hill.
