About This Game

Total War: WARHAMMER

The Old World echoes to the clamour of ceaseless battle. The only constant is WAR!

A fantasy strategy game of legendary proportions, Total War: WARHAMMER combines an addictive turn-based campaign of epic empire-building with explosive, colossal, real-time battles, all set in the vivid and incredible world of Warhammer Fantasy Battles.

Command four wholly different races: the Empire, the Dwarfs, the Vampire Counts and the Greenskins, each with their own unique characters, battlefield units and play style.

Lead your forces to war as one of eight Legendary Lords from the Warhammer Fantasy Battles World, arming them with fabled weapons, armour and deadly battle magic; hard-won in individual quest chains.

For the first time in a Total War game, harness storms of magical power to aid you in battle and take to the skies with flying creatures, from ferocious dragons and wyverns to gigantic griffons.

Hundreds of hours of gameplay await you at the dawn of a new era. Total War: WARHAMMER brings to life a world of legendary heroes, towering monsters, flying creatures, storms of magical power and regiments of nightmarish warriors.

Lead Extraordinary Races

The valiant men of the Empire, the vengeful Dwarfs, the murderous Vampire Counts and the brutal Orcs and Goblins of the Greenskin tribes. Each Race is wholly different with their own unique characters, campaign mechanics, battlefield units and play style.

Command Legendary Characters

March your forces to war as one of eight Legendary Lords from the Warhammer Fantasy Battles World, arming them with fabled weapons, armour, mounts and deadly battle magic as you uncover their tales through a series of unique narrative quest chains.

Conquer this world

The very first Total War game to feature a fantasy setting. Experience incredible depth and the freedom to conquer as you see fit across a gigantic sand-box Grand Campaign map. Crafted from a twisted magical landscape and populated with an incredible array of awesome and deadly creatures, this is your chance to experience fantasy strategy on a scale as yet unimagined.

Unleash the monsters

The battlefields of Total War: WARHAMMER echo to the swoop and roar of dragons, the bellowing of giants and the thundering hooves of monstrous cavalry. Towering beasts of both earthly and supernatural origin wade into the melee of battle, bringing death to hundreds of lesser creatures at a time.

Harness the Winds of Magic

Smite your enemies with magical storms, melt their armour, sap their fighting spirit or bolster your own forces with devastating spells that split the sky and consume the battlefield. Rally wizards, shamans and necromancers to your armies and bend titanic and unpredictable energies to your whim.

Watch the skies

Harass your enemies with Dwarfen Gyrocopters, plunge into their front-lines with terrifying Wyverns and achieve air superiority with a stunning array of flying units for the first time in a Total War game. Entirely new tactical possibilities present themselves as you deploy your winged minions in open battles and jaw-dropping sieges.

What is more, this title will go on to combine with two future standalone instalments and additional content packs to create the largest Total War experience ever. An epic trilogy of titles that will redefine fantasy strategy gaming.

Total War Warhammer is overall a solid RTS by CA. However, for every step that this game takes forward, it takes 2 steps back for the entire Total War series.

Pros
- Streamlined gameplay and menus
- All factions play and feel different from each other
- Nice music soundtrack just wish there was more variety

Cons
- Devs are charging their fans for blood and gore DLC.. Comon!
- No unlocks or leveling. Sorely missed from Shogun 2
- Beastmen are currently OP

The DLC practices of CA are starting to bother me. Can't believe they are that hard up to charge their fans for blood and gore. They couldn't add blood and gore as a patch to the options menu for free? I would also like to see more races such as the Lizardmen. This game would also be awesome it it had Werewolves in it to counter the Vampires.

Good game, people complaining about prices don't understand the sheer amount of manpower and money required to fully code and design so many different races with entirely different aspects from model skeletons and animations to campaign traits.

Absolutely love this game and the sad ♥♥♥♥♥ing of others over the DLC is just that, sad. It comes with an extra campaign, there is literally hundreds of hours of gameplay in this bad boy, try finding that satisfaction in nearly any other arena in life. If only they knew what it actually took to make a game like this. Spoiled gamers are spoiled. :/

Well done guys and I'll keep shovelling you cash if you keep providing great content! :D

This will be a review for people who have bought Total war titles before.

Pros:
•Battles have more flavor because of flying and big units.
•Factions have a different playing style
•Quests and missions are fun to do now
•You now care who your general is
•Magic

Cons:
•Cost of the base game
•Battles are too quick for my taste/Maps are too small
•Too few factions in the base game(but are well done)
•Magic is OP(not normal that I can decimate an entire 20 stack with 3-4 spells

Verdict is yours to make. I cannot force you to buy the game.

FU C K ING DLC, That's to squeeze buyer's wallet. It's incredible that we have to pay JUST TO HAVE BLOOD ON BATTLES?????

You erased the formations of units on battles, erased legacy of "family" like on Rome Total War.

What the hell is that??

That's clearly just to make us all pay 3 or 4 times to have NECESSARY and already developed characteristics of the game. Pitty

That's a really bad policy. It's going to make all the buyers hate designers companies and forced to use.

It is necessary to pay 100-200$ just to have a complete game?
I am forced to pay. I will NEVER buy the Beastman campaign for 17-20$.

Product received for free
I got the game for free from a Newegg promo, I wouldn't actually purchase the game due to the DLC prices. The game itself is very enjoyable and well made, but $3 to unlock blood/gore and $30 to unlock two other races as playable is absurd. I had to double-check to make sure EA wasn't involved in the production.

This is not a review of CA's and /or SEGA's dlc practices, but of the game itself.

For once in the series, the factions are actually diverse. They all play and feel differently, as well as offer - or require - different tactics.
Combat feels quite fast-paced, if not too much so, especially compared to previous titles. It is an issue for some people however, and I can't blame them. Perhaps you just need to get used to it, I've no idea.
Some gameplay features are somewhat streamlined or simplified - like the city management, yet, in general, it doesn't end up impacting the gameplay in a too negative way.
Performance is surprisingly good. After Attila, I was worried about barely-playable FPS and ridiculous turn timers. And - nothing. On my not-so-modern rig FPS only dips in massive battles, and you don't have to wait ages for AI to process their turns, even in the late-game.

Aside from a few issues here and there, what's already in the game works quite well. But there's not enough of it yet. Current 6 playable races are nothing compared to the (planned) 16. As fun as the Grand Campaign is, it's still in need of new content.

Now, the DLCs. My opinions on the pricing aside, DLCs that add new races are good stuff. They're no longer vain palette-swaps with one-two "new" units. If you're interested in using a certain race - buy it. If not, you'll still encounter them in Grand Campaign or MP.
Simply having them around adds a lot, even if it's a Horde that may or may not get wiped out 15 turns into the campaign.

All in all, a solid 7.5 /10 with great potential, it does justice to both Warhammer Fantasy and Total War series. Would kill them /raise them again.

To make it short:

-very good Warhammer game (great lore consistency)

-an ok Total War game (missing gameplay mechanics from previous titles, feels somehow barren)

Now to the biggest issue I have with this title:

The DLC policy is abhorrent. They charge 17 euros for a SINGLE race, when there are still numerous ones to come out. It looks as if they took EA's 'The Sims' strategy, thanks to which by the end of the series you will have to purchase a couple hundred euros/dollars worth of additional content to get the full experience.

I can't stand for that. While I do recommend the base game, please, refrain from buying any of the dlc. Let's show that this is not a policy which customers agree with.

Thanks for reading.

2,5€ to unlock gore in a war game
7,5€ to unlock a faction that's already in the game
18€ for the first of many still missing factions

There are better content mods for free on the Workshop.

Stop taking a huge ♥♥♥♥ on your users.

*This review is a statement against recent Total War titles marketing scheme*

Sega and Creative Assembly, show some respect to Total War fans.

We have paid for a complete game. Could you do us the honor of delivering one ?

Great game.

But the first real DLC is coming and it's $20 DLC for a SINGLE race. Their justification is that it has more content than a normal DLC because they had to make more animations for the new units. Meanwhile for $20 you can get Witcher 3 which offers a hundred hours of gameplay. Yeah, no. $20 for one race is absolutely unacceptable. They also charged $3 for blood. $3 for a 7MB patch that adds some almost invisible particle effects.

Don't buy this until you can get it AND all the DLC on sale, probably months from now. Show CA that their abhorrent price policy isn't okay. Show the game industry that this anti consumer crap won't be tolerated

Great game, but they are way greedier then I thought... almost 2 months out and you already have 25 euros of dlc content..

A worthy thing to mention is that even with those dlc's you don't have even half of the races the Warhammer games usualy come with, which means you should expect another 100-150 euros of dlc content untill they decide they milked the fat Warhammer fanbase enough. Sad, just sad...

Typically, I'm a massive fan of Total War games in general, and Warhammer as well as that.

The game itself, is quite fun. However, what you get the base game is the choice of 4 races essentially - with CA now charging ~£14 for the latest DLC installment of Beastmen. If you weren't lucky enough to preorder the game, you're already paying an additional ~£25 for Chaos and Beastmen. Two of the core races of the games setting. God knows how much it will cost for any additional races to be added later, let alone additional campaigns / maps.

Would definitely avoid, or wait a few years until you can get it for pennies from somewhere else.

This is a fun vanilla game. But people need to know that if you are planning to play the campaign map with all warhammer races and not just the starting 4, you will have to pay about 200 dollars worth of DLC. There is already 30 dollars worth of DLC to get another 2 races in the game, and these are just the smaller kind of DLC, not adding any landmass to the campaign map, so you have to assume some other factions will be even more expensive than the already high price of DLCs. This is a very good game that is going to be ruined by the patented Creative Assembly DLC greediness.
