About This Game

Turmoil offers players a visually charming, tongue-in-cheek take on the simulation genre inspired by the 19th century oil rush in North America. Get a taste of the rush and rivalry of the time as you earn your way to become a successful oil entrepreneur. As you make money digging up and selling oil, the town will grow along with you.

Lease land at the town auction and search for oil. Build a rig, create an efficient pipe network and bring up the oil to store it in silos. Sell the oil at the best times to maximize profits. Then buy essential upgrades in town to cope with rock, gas and ice. Acquire more town shares than your competitors in a bid to become the new mayor.

  • A campaign where you build your rags-to-riches oil baron career and beat your rivals.
  • Dozens of upgrades and new tools to improve your oil mining operations.
  • Meet the town’s characters in the saloon and make shady business deals.
  • Play single game mode to get one of literally millions of procedurally generated levels and earn as much as you can in one year.
  • Steam Achievements, Badges, Trading Cards and Cloud Saving.
  • Lease land at the town auction and search for oil using a dowser, mole or scanner.
  • Maximize your profits by using natural gas to boost the oil price.
  • Outbid your competitors at the stock auction.

Fun little game, nice ambience.

It requires some skill and at the same time doesn't require to look up a wiki to even be able to understand how the game actually works! Basically decision making is power more than knowledge, which is always good to me.

The replayability isn't huge though, after one playthrough and half it's pretty much repetitive. There is depth, but not so much.

Standard AI is too easy to beat, expert is impossible.

Not a bad game at all, not the best either.

Very well done simple business game where you extract oil out of the ground with all sorts of equipment, then sell high and watch the buyers carefuly. This is the perfect example of a sucsessful Early Accses, quick development and straight forward planning to lead to a game free of bugs and balenced. It's very relaxing and fun to watch your oil empire start, grow...and then die all in a matter of moments. The western oil rush is now, and it won't last forever.

This game is fantastic! Its a seemingly simple game, but has a large amount of depth. Finding the oil and extracting it is just the beginning. Once natural gas appears, the risk vs reward kicks into overdrive. Do I store all my oil and wait until I can sell at $2.00 from natural gas price boosts or do I start selling at $1.50 and sell more ALL of my oil. Later on you can even expand gas pockets.

The upgrade buildings add a tremendous amount of customization to gameplay. Moles, Dowsers, Horses, Pipes and Silos to name a few. You have to be careful how much you spend when stocks are introduced.

Honestly, just buy it already.

If you're into strategy games this will be a lovely addition to your inventory. I watched Jacksepticeye play an episode of this and I was instantly hooked. It's a 2-D, western, oil tycoon game where you attempt to make the most profit by drilling for oil, loading into silos, and selling it to two different companies. It's worth a try to test out your time management skills.

What a great game! I just finished my first playthrough and WOW! For such a simple game, I didn't expect to have this much fun. It took me 7.7 hours (and one restart for going epically bankrupt) to complete, only to find out there's a special surprise once you beat it! I won't reveal the surprise, but let's just say it makes the game even better on your second playthrough.

You're in constant competition with the three other characters for land, money, and even ownership of the town. Every parcel of land brings another challenge. You have to manage your upgrades and your money wisely or you'll be ♥♥♥♥ out of luck.

It's pretty fun for what it is. A timekiller at best, really. The game itself is fun, but it just feels a little lacking. I think the main thing I found lacking is the upgrades, there are quite a lot of them, but only about ~20% are actually worth anything. There are a lot of really superficial upgrades that are mostly worthless or overpriced, not to mention a lot of the upgrades should really be passive, but instead require further spending during a mining year. I can understand the drill requiring a rig upgrade to be able to go through rocks, but purchasing the speed upgrade for your rigs is ridiculous, that should be a passive upgrade. Then most of the workshop upgrades are useless, really the only ones worth getting are the dowser upgrades.
Then there's the AI. On normal, they're pretty stupid, and will rarely make earnings anywhere near yours if you play well. But then, on expert, it's completely rigged against you. The first few digs you only get a month or half a year to mine oil, which barely allows you to get a few thousand dollars in earnings. However, your opponents will be making 10-20k in earnings, completely eclipsing you in the early game on expert, which only screws you over later on. The AI in general just needs a complete overhaul for balance.
That all said, it's still a fun game, I got it full price but frankly I would have to recommend waiting for the price to drop or it to go on sale to really be worth buying in its current condition. More content and some AI balancing would be really nice, along with reworking how some upgrades work.

this is a great game that has a low learning curve but will still challenge you to get those big numbers. evey peice of land is new and exciting and feels fresh, a great game well worth $10.

side note im having a glitch where if you get the extra week with the dimand the date turns into a big black bar going across the top of the screen.

Awesome oil tycoon simulation game. Tons of strategy and careful cost-benefit management. It's like crack trying to improve your operations.

I only wish the games were longer!

Also, this game would be great with some multiplayer. Doesn't have to be anything fancy, but I'd love to play against my friends to see who can get the most money!

Ever wanted to bash someones head in with a bowling pin and drink their milkshake?

That's not exactly the game to do it, but it will bring you in the mood for it. ...I suppose every old-day oil magnat had these days.

In your first playthrough (took me about 10h) it's a light hearted simulation. The competition is not that dangerous, and will snatch precious land plots from you, but extend their financial ressources in the process. You will mitigate that and beat them in the long run.

The levels itself play the same and you will develop a routine. Frequent upgrades to your equipment and the environment will ask some adapting of this routine. Mainly you gamble on waiting to sell your oil, hoping that the price will rise before the time is up or your silos full. Managing to get all oil and gas out and quitting early was the biggest achievment for me.
Despite that there is little variation from the first level to the last, I was never bored with the game.

There is an 'expert' mode you unlock after finishing the first campaign, which should be more of a challenge. I might update this review, once I've played it.
