What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“When we look back at the original How to Survive we realize that we had followed a similar path. We released the game and then we were able to gather feedback from the community and work to deliver.
If we had had access to a community early in the development process most likely we could have identified what players felt was most important and implementing it in a faster and most effective manner. We also found out that some of the more ambitious features players highlighted required a whole new development to be implemented so… here we are working on How to Survive 2.
We think of Early Access as a tool to keep that relationship with the community going. Let’s do it.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Not forever! Which may not sound very precise but it’s a statement not every game on Early Access makes. Putting a date is risky because unexpected things might happen but we have pretty clear that we want to finish Early Access in 2016. But it will also depend upon your response and feedback.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“UPDATED TO APRIL 2016

We did launch Early Access with the basic gameplay structure laid out and functioning, you were able to create playable characters and specialize them, get together with friends, build a camp, defend it and go on quests and raids facing a variety of natural and unnatural threats.

So far WE HAVE ADDED TONS of stuff! Many customization options for male and female characters, new game modes such as Elite Quests and Zombie Horde Attacks, more Coop options such as Local Coop as requested by community, more skills to learn, more workshops, more parts, tools and weapons and crafting recipes, new NPCs, etc.
We also brought back a few things as requested by players: night zombies, finishing moves, Kovac tutorial videos (OH, YES!).
So the game, in a few months, is already looking pretty different. How different from the final game will it be? We don’t know because we are following the community lead, it’s ideas and suggestions. We just know it will be awesome.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“UPDATED TO APRIL 2016

The game is fully playable and fleshed out, currently you can find:
• Multiplayer! 4 players simultaneously.
o You can create your private camp and invite up to 16 friends or join their camp.
o You can also create a public camp, manage the admin rights of your community and welcome all the survivors on earth!
o Local Coop - 4 players on the same computer.
• Open world, sandbox play-over 43 different raids among city and bayou.

• 3 full armor sets are also available to equip and protect your avatar
• 6 workshops to build and upgrade + various traps and defense structures (fences, watch towers)

We have a lot to add and are looking forward to hearing your suggestions.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We want to build the best game possible for you. We have realized that we may need to adjust the price while in development. That said, we will try to keep it fair and we will be part of Sales and Discounts during this period.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We have many profiles were you guys can contact us via http://www.facebook.com/HowToSurviveTheGame or @How2SurviveGame, but as we did in the past, we’ll keep an eye on the community hub and, eventually, we will run polls and surveys for players to participate. So if you want to help Kovac craft the new How to Survive adventure… come join us!”

Run, run for you're life. This game is nothing like how it looks from the outside.

I bought this game, thinking it to be a form of tower defence, or group zombie survival game. Its more closer to zombie flash minigame. The game. As in the only thing you do the entire game is hit zombies with a bat, and wander around looking for something some **** ant told you to get over a walkie talkie. Also the controls suck fairly bad. to top all of it off the soundtrack, and even the base sounds themselfs. Are stolen from other games. I heard zombie cries from left for dead in here, a couple from dead frontier, even a few from newer zombie games like dead rising.

Game is really entertaining and fun with friends. Dont recomend playing by yourself but still fun. The whole point is to play with friends or randoms to build and upgrade your camp. Show off your lvl, gear, and even pvp with eachother, just increase the damage taken by other players when you first create the camp. If you're a wuss and dont want other players killing each other then simply take it off when you first create a camp. Make private camps for your friends or play public with randoms.
This is just early access cant wait to see how much they will update this game.
10/10 love building my own camp, love zombies, and playing with friends.

Hm, this is probably my first review, so bear with me...

So far i like this game, it is both very similar and different to How to Survive 1

It lacks most of the "survival" element that was more present in the first game, but what it has instead is a much deeper system of crafting and base building etc

This change is both good and bad, but overall i like the newer system.

Some of the bad sides though are that a lot of the earlier missions are very repetative, and reuse a lot of house and enviroment designs, but that changes a lot as you progress towards the current level cap(50), the missions towards the end feels a lot more varied and less grindy...some of them can take a lot of time though.

Well, this is fairly messy for a review i guess, but overall i would give this game an 8/10 in its current state...hoping they can go that extra mile as the end of the early access looms closer :)

Awful. I wish I could experience the game but:

1. It lags my computer (which runs every game I own on max settings)
2. No screen resolution options (that I can find)
3. Controls are funky
4. Sound glitches

I feel like I've been ripped off. It's a non-starter, for me.

That is a great game. For real, i'm having a lot of fun and is just in early acess
I really enjoyed the style, mixing the diablo camera and a survival zombie game.
In a certain part of the game it seems a bit repetitive, but gradually it is introducing new enemies and items as you increase the levels and do other missions, giving a chance for the player to go adapting.
I really recommend it to be played with friends (since I bought I just played so). Most of the time I found myself running looking for supplies and him screaming or freaking with some random horde appeared, or with enemies that seemed inoffensive but made noises like the devil.
Do not stop playing just because a plot, or mission, was similar to others, it is a survival game and nothing else, do not expect a full color mmorpg (of course, has a level of carnival lol) and trips to space. Any game of this style you will need to collect wood, stone, metal, build houses, etc.
I really recommend this game.

I like this game a lot , it has a lot of cool things you get to do and you can play with your friends too . The zombies get stronger as you level up and that makes things more interesting, although it can be a bit annoying when you discover during a quest that a zombie you could kill in one shot ,now needs 2-3 hits . You get to build better weapons and upgrade your skills but sometimes that takes a bit of time .
There are some lag problems from time to time but nothing too bad.
Anyway this is a game i really enjoy playing .

So much fun, Alot of replay value and amazing walking dead style survival game. A few bugs as to be expected with EA. But I was not that upset when I lost everything because it was not a issue doing it all again. I only wish it was more then 4 player's.

even if its not as good as the first one (dont even make me remember of the Third Person version), h2s2 can be a fun game... if played with friends.

In h2s1 you will go trought a story, with linear quests, and it was more focused on singleplayer...
In h2s2, the story doenst exist, there are more quests and its more focused on multiplayer...

However, the main problem for me with H2S2 is that every quest feels the same, and it doenst seem that youre making progress, theres also the fact that theres just too many loading screens, due to the fact that every mission is on a separate "world".

The skills are other problem:
the level system in this game consist in leveling up your camp > leveling up your character > leveling up your skills. If youd ask me, im perfectly fine with the level system, the skills however are just weird in my opinion (i do think its nice to give so much liberty about having so many skills to level up), HOWEVER there are way too many skills that you can choose, " skill trees" in this game dont exist wich I think its cool but at the same time it can get confusing.

And finally the World:
In H2S1, the world was small but atleast you knew where you were, due to the fact that the islands were always different and felt believable... In H2S2 the "Hub World" is just forest... forest and more forest, wich in my opinion its not the best world ive ever saw in a game.

H2S2 can be a fun game, if you have people to play with, and the multiplayer camps were a nice addition but overall it just feels bad story wise (and the recicled quests)

Everyone who played the 1st game of How to survive will (most likely ) agree with me, that the 2nd game is MUCH better in alot of points already. It has better graphics, a pretty common 08/15 story which isnt bad tho. Again we have the great Kovac who pretty much was the most fun in this game. and also the Tower defense kind of thing with your camp is pretty ... odd if i may say so. Though its still in early alpha so i really hope we will get more off the in my opinion est top down game there is. Especialy i hope they will add more of teh kovac videos and his missions and great sarcastic humor. 8/10 totally recommendod.

I own and played HTS. It's good but it's only singleplayer. HTS2 Immediately gets two thumbs up because this time around its a 4 Player Co-Op style game. You can play singleplayer campainge or you can start your own Camp in multiplayer. You can set your camp for public player to join or private for just friends. It's basically HTS with new locals, weapons, clothing and new zombie variants.

There is also an added camping building feature that wasn't in HTS. You build a trunk to store your gear and then build other structures like an amory to make better weapons and ammo. There's an accessories buidling that can be made, that's to make different clothing variants which give a certain amount of protection from physical attacks. There are also defensive camp parts to build because the higher you level up, the more often zombies will come attack your camp. You can make small fences and large walls, you can even make defensive things that will kill zombies.

There is a leveling system for both you, the camp and your camp structures. On the player side, you level your actual level up which will open up skills that you can use XP to unlock the new skills to help you deal more damange, run faster, carry more gear, food and thirst meter go down slower, medical items heal better, etc.

The only Cons I've seen so far is that it is still an Early Access game meaning there is content but it's not all there because they are still making the game. Another Con is that the missions are very repeatative and you'll need to run missions you've already done over and over again, to get the loot you need to make and upgrade your buildings, weapons, clothing, food, etc. Now adays what game isn't repeatative in this fashion? All games that deal with having to loot to craft items or structures are usually repeatative in my eyes. Go grind for loot, craft, build, grind for loot, craft build....

Overall I would still recommend this game but not at full price only because it is still in early access.
