YEAR 2 SEASON 2: OPERATION HEALTH

As announced during the Six Invitational, game health is our priority. To achieve this goal we took the decision to fully dedicate the next three months to improving our game. This means pushing back our season set in Hong Kong and launching instead, Operation Health.

Operation Health is all about fixing several issues and investing in better technology to make sure we keep growing strong in the upcoming years.

Here are the three pillars that will serve as focus points for our Dev team during the next three months:

Year 2 Roadmap Impact
Operation Health will follow a much more iterative pace and new deployment philosophy in three steps ensuring we gradually inject new developments. For instance, the One Step Matchmaking will be released first on the Technical Test Server (TTS), then on PC and finally, when ready, on Xbox One and PS4.

With Operation Health pushing back our season set in Hong Kong, we needed to rethink our Year 2 Roadmap. Hong Kong will be released in August as part of Season Three and South Korea in November during Season Four. While Poland no longer has a dedicated season, our GROM Operators will be released at the start of Season Three and Four.

Finally, we have decided to reduce the number of new maps to three this year (including the released map set in Spain) to truly prioritize our game’s health. You can find below our updated Year 2 Roadmap:

Tune in to the Pro League Finals on May 21st for a panel discussion on Operation Health
During Operation Health, we will post frequent reports detailing what new tech we are implementing, the content of the next update, bug fixes that were pushed, and so on. We invite you to follow our progress and to participate in our upcoming control quality checks on the TTS.

For more information on Operation Health, make sure to tune in during the Pro League finals on May 21st for a full panel discussion.

THE TECHNICAL TEST SERVER IS COMING!

We are excited to follow up on our previous announcement of the Technical Test Server! As the name implies, this platform will be used to test new features in a controlled environment that allows us to iterate without impacting the “live” game.

Beginning in late March, the Technical Test Server will be available for a select group of PC players in the West Europe region. The players that will be invited to this test were selected from the most active players in the Western European region. We intend to make the Technical Test Server available globally over time. We made the decision to use the Western Europe region for the initial test as our data suggests that they offer us the greatest amount of variables to get the best information possible from this initial test. This will also allow us to monitor the status of the Technical Test Server live, and maximize our reactivity.

The first phase of the Technical Test Server will be focused on the implementation of One Step Matchmaking. We are very excited about the changes that One Step Matchmaking will bring to the game, and our Creative Director, Xavier Marquis, has the following to say about it.

“Our first milestone [for player comfort in Year 2] will be a complete rework of the matchmaking system. It will be mended on two levels. First of all, it will be a One Step Matchmaking. We take a pool of 10 players, and as soon as it’s assembled, hop! We redistribute them all at once, and the two teams are formed. But beyond that, the change will also allow the matchmaking to happen in a bubble, on the side. This way, you are free to do whatever you want, and navigate where you want in the menus. You can browse the game without any restrictions while the matchmaking is ongoing. So more comfort, and better matchmaking.”

Each phase of the Technical Test Server will be focused on different aspects of the game. We will provide you with as much information as possible about the goal of future tests prior to them starting.

F.A.Q.

Do I need to own the game to participate in the Technical Test Server?

Yes. You will need to own the full version of the game. This includes players that have purchased the Starter edition.

Which platforms?

PC. The Technical Test Server will be available through the Uplay PC client.

Will I need to download the game again before each test?

We plan to minimize the number of times that participants need to download the game again. Typically it will only require a patch to bring your TTS client up to date. However, depending on changes to the focus of a particular TTS session, a complete download may be required.

Where do I download the TTS client?

We will provide you with a link when the TTS client becomes available.

Am I able to have both the live client and the TTS client on my computer at the same time?

You will be able to have both clients installed on the same computer. Please note that configuration changes made on the TTS will not carry over to the live client, and vice versa.

Will people that use Steam be able to play it through the Uplay PC client?

Yes. People that own Rainbow Six Siege on Steam will be able to participate in the TTS sessions through their connected Uplay account. Please note that the client can only be downloaded and launched through the Uplay PC client.

How do I report bugs?

For the initial testing phase of the TTS, we will have a URL designated for reporting bugs/glitches that you have discovered on the TTS.

How many people will be able to play at the same time?

We are going to limit the available number of slots on our servers for the TTS. Some players should expect to see “Ubisoft services are unavailable” error message when the servers are at capacity. This will help us limit the impact that TTS play sessions can have on the live servers. Please do not take time off of work/class to participate in the TTS play sessions.

Will I be able to make purchases on the TTS?

No. Instead of requiring you to purchase items on the TTS, we have gone ahead and unlocked everything for your use. Now you can be both fashionable and tactical. Enjoy!

Will my items/progress transfer from the live game to the TTS?

Content will not be transferred from the live servers to the TTS. You will be granted all items and Operators for free on the TTS, so a transfer of progress is not necessary. Any progression, items acquired, or stats, will similarly not be transferred back to the live servers when the TTS ends.

What content will be available for testing?

The goal of the TTS sessions is to open different facets of the game for very specific testing. The TTS client will not be persistent, and some sessions may have a drastically limited Operator/Map/Weapon/Attachment selection, depending on the goal of that specific test.

How long will these sessions last?

As previously noted, the TTS will not be persistent. We will run each test for a 24-72 hour period, depending on how long it takes us to gather the data that we need. Please note that some sessions may be longer/shorter, but the majority will last for 1-3 days.

Technical Test Server

This is the Technical Test Server client for Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege. This platform will be used to test new features in a controlled environment that allows the development team to iterate without impacting the live game.

o Please note :
- The T.T.S. client is built off of several different builds at various stages of development, and may not represent the overall quality of the game.
- Features seen on the T.T.S. might never make it in the final game: various components are still in conceptual stages and might be discarded throughout the development process. Certain ideas that were postponed or cancelled might also be found in the T.T.S. as a result.
- You need to own a version of the game (Standard, Gold, Complete or Starter Edition) to unlock this product
- The TTS will only function during specific timeframes.

Operation Velvet Shell

A new season of Rainbow Six Siege is here! Set sail for the Mediterranean islands with the signature Velvet Shell headgear for all Operators.

In Operation Velvet Shell, two G.E.O. Operators join Team Rainbow to regain control of the "Coastline". Following a year of post-launch content, this major update aims to improve player comfort with an upgraded navigation interface, customisation selections and lots more.

With Operation Velvet Shell, Team Rainbow recruits two of G.E.O.’s finest: Mira and Jackal.
The new Operators are immediately unlocked for Season Pass owners, with exclusive access granted for seven days. All players can then unlock the Operators with Renown or R6 Credits after the exclusive period ends.

Mira

Elena María Álvarez was born in Retiro, Madrid, where she learned to spot and fix mechanical defects on automobile engines. Demonstrating solid physical endurance and a stubborn need to prove her worth, Álvarez later joined the Grupo Especial de Operaciones (G.E.O.). Her wide-ranging knowledge of vehicles made her an expert in the ballistic field, which she uses to develop and test bulletproof materials.

UNIQUE ABILITY
Álvarez came up with the idea for Black Mirror during Operation Blue Orion, when she was forced to improvise a panic room at the Embassy of Spain in Tel Aviv. She used this experience to design a specialized laminated glass, which when deployed with oxyacetylene can carve out a one-way mirror on any wall. If the air pressure is disrupted, however, the glass is ejected and creates a daring opening for both defenders and attackers.

Jackal

Born in Ceuta, Spain, Ryad Ramírez Al-Hassar’s broad resourcefulness on difficult terrains made him an expert tracker. His extensive training outside the Cuerpo Nacional de Policía include several survival courses, tactical desert navigation programs, and specialized combat diving practice. Ramírez is known to be the best asset of the G.E.O. to track down HVTs and intercept narcotics shipments. He is ruthless on the field and determined to unravel the events that led to the loss of his older brother, Faisal.

UNIQUE ABILITY
Inspired by the FBI’s Quick Capture Platform, the Eyenox Model III was created to offer a mobile tracking device able to both identify and trail a person’s footprints in real-time. This forensic tool was first used to track terrorist cells back to hidden cave complex in the mountains of Afghanistan. Equipped with advanced computer vision, the Eyenox detects invisible details relating to footfall and weight distribution so that you can identify and stalk your target.

Coastline

Team Rainbow has been called to safeguard the seashore of Ibiza, Spain. Two of G.E.O.'s most resourceful Operators have been selected to provide their unique tactical expertise to the unit. Stationed on Ibiza’s rocky shore, course through Balearic ruins and navigate booming bars to neutralize the threat. Get ready for a surround flow of combat laced with chaotic rushes as you explore a paradise gone wrong.

The new Coastline map is available for free for all players.

Celebrate Year Two Season One of Rainbow Six Siege with four new Velvet Shell Signature weapon skins. Chupinazo, El Dorado, León Furioso and Crossfader are sleek, vibrant designs inspired by the colors of the Spanish shores.

About This Game

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege is the upcoming installment of the acclaimed first-person shooter franchise developed by the renowned Ubisoft Montreal studio.

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege invites players to master the art of destruction. Intense close quarters confrontations, high lethality, tactics, team play, and explosive action are at the center of the experience. The gameplay sets a new bar for intense firefights and expert strategy in the rich legacy of past Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six games.

Key Features

THE SIEGE GAMEPLAY
For the first time in Rainbow Six, players will engage in sieges, a brand-new style of assault. Enemies now have the means to transform their environments into strongholds: they can trap, fortify, and create defensive systems to prevent breach by Rainbow teams.

To face this challenge, players have a level of freedom unrivaled by any previous Rainbow Six game. Combining tactical maps, observation drones, and a new rappel system, Rainbow teams have more options than ever before to plan, attack, and diffuse these situations.

COUNTER TERRORIST UNITS
Counter terrorist operatives are trained to handle extreme situations, such as hostage rescue, with surgical precision. As “short range” specialists, their training is concentrated on indoor environments. Operating in tight formations, they are experts of close quarter combat, demolition, and coordinated assaults. Rainbow Six Siege will include operators coming from five of the most worldwide renowned CTU: the British SAS, the American SWAT, the French GIGN, the German GSG9 and the Russian SPETSNAZ.

These Operators are specialists with their own expertise within Siege operations. Each has their own unique personality & specialty. Some are focused on assault where as others are defense-oriented. They can be combined within the same team to create new team strategies.

PROCEDURAL DESTRUCTION
Destruction is at the heart of the siege gameplay. Players now have the unprecedented ability to destroy environments. Walls can be shattered, opening new lines of fire, and ceiling and floors can be breached, creating new access points. Everything in the environment reacts realistically, dynamically, and uniquely based on the size and caliber of bullets you are using or the amount of explosives you have set. In Rainbow Six Siege, destruction is meaningful and mastering it is often the key to victory.
