Winner, Best Downloadable Game by GameSpot's E3 Editors' Choice Awards

"Apart from the beautiful graphics, what made the game stand out was just how spot-on everything was--whether it was the controls, the interactions between the three characters, or the puzzle-solving mechanics, it's clear the developers spent a lot of time refining the gameplay." full review

About This Game

Trine is a fantasy action game where the player can create and use physics-based objects to beat hazardous puzzles and threatening enemies. Set in a world of great castles and strange machinery, three heroes are bound to a mysterious device called the Trine in a quest to save the kingdom from evil.

The gameplay is based on fully interactive physics - each character's different abilities help the player battle an army of undead and defeat hazardous contraptions. The player can at any time freely choose whoever is best suited for the upcoming challenge or puzzle: The Wizard is able to summon objects to help solve puzzles and create new ways to overcome obstacles, the Thief uses her agility and dead-on accuracy to swiftly surprise the monsters, and the Knight unleashes mayhem and physical destruction wherever he goes.

Trine Enchanted Edition

Trine Enchanted Edition is a remake of the original Trine with dazzling new visual effects and numerous gameplay improvements!

  • Online and local co-op with up to three players
  • Mid-level saving: Save anywhere to play as long or short sessions as you like
  • Stunning new graphics based on the Trine 2 engine

Both Trine Enchanted Edition as well as the original Trine are included in the Enchanted Edition. The different versions are selectable from the game launcher. All Trine purchases have been automatically updated to Trine Enchanted Edition.

  • Online and local co-op with up to three players
  • Characters gain experience points that can be used to upgrade their abilities

Trine is a side-scrolling action platform/puzzle game developed by Frozenbyte, originally released in 2009. A remake of Trine called Trine: Enchanted Edition was released. It ports the game to the Trine 2 engine and adds online multiplayer.
The gameplay consists of controlling and switches between three different characters (a wizard, a thief, and a knight) to try to complete levels filled with enemies, lots of great puzzles and many secret treasures. There is also a experience system that is shared among all characters, and is incremented by acquiring bottles found throughout levels. Every 50 experience points, each character is given one point towards the purchase of upgrades to their abilities.
After so many years this is still one of the best local/online co-op experiences I've seen. Due to the enhanced edition upgrade, the game still looks good (#1, #2) and sounds amazing, just listen to the soundtrack.

Great puzzle/adventure game, but I would only buy it in a bundle. If you are only buying one Trine game, go for the second or third one.

Lovely game. Pleasent graphics and cute settings. There is more challenge to trine 1 than 2, because in 1 you have mana. This means that the wiz can only do so much in between checkpoints, you have to manage your abilities. In trine 2 you can just go ham.
Trine 1 was also much shorter than trine 2, but regardless I would recommend you get it if it's on sale.

This is great. So sad I didn`t try it before. I bought it once and then forgot. After so many years I wanted to play something I haven`t tried. And this game... Developers did pretty good job, especially with GNU/Linux support. I haven`t had any issues.

Not really into platformers all that much but this game is really good like even today even though its old and the first one.

Game runs surprisingly well even on a gtx480 and looks great at 1080p. Sure i don't use anti-aliasing but i dont like it when the scenes in motion and causes the blurry ness but yet im still getting 60+fps most of the time if not all the time

You play as 3 dudes, one is an archer who uses bow and has grapple, one is a swords man who has shield, one is a wizard who can conjour boxes. Using these 3 people properly will help you advance through the game. The challenges aren't all that difficult but they are difficult enough to make it challenging and rewarding. If in doubt most of the times your going right on the screen. Sometimes you'll back track to go down a hole then go right or you'll climb up etc. But the challenges with the way its designed is nicely done.

Yes i recommend, i also recommend trine 2. They are the best ones, Trine 3 is good but there isn't enough in the game imo. These two are the real gems.

It looks gorgeous too even by todays standard.

It also has multiplayer and co-op is a blast. You can even use tunngle to run through there which is usually where your most likely to find another player considering nobody really plays it anymore.

I don't normally play or like platform games but decided to give this one a try, and it was the most spectacular and fun platform game I've ever played.

Well made in every aspect and I can't believe it is 7 years old.
Ran it with all eye candy on a GTX 970 and it was glorious to behold.
Even by today's standard it was graphically fantastic!

Warmly recommended for the casual player.

REVIEW
Trine is a light game that is easy to digest but offers gripping visuals, a mystical atmosphere, and enticing gameplay. All of the features of the game are simple in design but intricate in execution. The gameplay, aesthetics, and narrative all come together to create a whimsical and charming adventure. I highly recommend this for all gamers to consider; and for fans of the genre it is a sure bet.

By far the best aspects of the game are the stunning visuals and alluring atmospheric presentation of the setting. Each and every environment you explore is diverse, captivating, and charming. The ambiance really captures the mystical aura of the game perfectly. Trine easily has one of the most immersive 2D gameworlds I have encountered in video games.

The gameplay is light and quick to grasp. Anyone should be able to dive right in, regardless of ability level. But various difficulty levels and a "hardcore" mode ensure that skilled players can still find a challenge. And whether you are playing on “easy” or “hardcore,” the gameplay is entertaining. Mixing elements of platforming, action, and puzzle solving with the unique identity of the game establishes an experience that is simultaneously familiar and novel— and irrefutably fun.

The story is whimsical and fantastic; and the characters are pleasant and endearing. This synergizes well with the aforementioned atmosphere to establish an amusing fantasy experience. But it also remains light and relaxed, and never takes itself too seriously. So even casual fans of fantasy will enjoy the narrative.

Trine is definitely a worthy pick-up. No matter what your standard preferences are, you should give this game some consideration. Check it out.

Addendum: The game was upgraded to a better engine and to add online coop. The new cooperative mode adds an extra layer of possibilities, as the unique gameplay is a joy to experience with friends.
